It’s Not Just Laker Fans That Disrespect Kwame
Despite having to wake up at an ungodly hour in the morning to write for this web site and then rushing over to the office, as is my daily custom, I stayed up late last night to watch my beloved Lakers. Thanks to the exploits of one Kwame Brown, though, I’m seriously tempted to never doing that again. Put simply, Kwame makes me hate basketball and my life in general.
The Suns/Lakers game was nationally broadcast, so I will not rehash the painful details, but let’s just say that at some point in the second half, Kwame Brown had one of the worst stretches in basketball history. It was humiliating for everyone involved, and the fans at Staples let him have it.
Pretty soon, his peers in the League will be booing him, too. Check this out:
In a Sports Illustrated poll of 242 NBA players, Kwame Brown received the most votes for the question, “Which player gets the least out of the most talent?” Brown received 17% of the votes, followed by Clippers forward Tim Thomas (10%), New York center Eddy Curry (7%), New Jersey guard-forward Vince Carter (6%) and Memphis center Darko Milicic (5%).
Did I mention that he’s our center for the next two months, a stretch that includes a cruel 9-game road trip? Shoot me.

Wow, voted on this by your peers has to be even more soul crushing for Kwame. First the G.O.A.T. calls him out after drafting him, now this? We may need to put Kwame on suicide watch.

i was in complete shock back when they traded a young, extremely talented, and versatile second banana caron for the alrady permanently tagged bust known as kwame.

Is Turiaf still hurt? Just play him and Mihm, they’re way better than Kwame. All Kwame gets you is the occasional nice dunk, punctuated by fumbles and turnovers as he flails around the court like some monstrosity from 28 Days Later.

Was Kwame one of the players polled? If so, did he name himself? I assume they asked Tim Thomas but he didn’t answer the question.

Joel, Turiaf has foul problems, dude fouled out in 18min against seattle, and I think Mihm is still injured.

@Tarzan: Yeah. The way Caron is playing now, if he still was a Laker they’d be a lot more solid. Kwame just… maddens me when I watch him too. Every high school team has a Kwame Brown on it - the tall, useless center who was put on the team just to stand in the paint and raise his hands up. Watching Kwame stumble around the court reminds me of THAT guy on my team who had no place on it, but made the cut at the expense of way better players.

Right before the game I told my boy Kwame was garbage and he went out and proved me right. For some reason Phil likes Kwame and plays him more than he should, even when Bynum is healthy. I feel sorry for Kwame even though he is garbage. How could you let Caron go for him? They atleast could have gotten Brendan Haywood or somebody.

Mike C says:
I think its Phil Jackson’s fault that he’s struggling so much.. He’s a decent defensive player and a decent rebounder, but nothing more than that. They kept force-feeding him the ball last night to post-up Amare and that’s just not his game. Seriously, they were running plays for him when they were trying to cut into the deficit.. I mean, is that really what Jackson prefers over Kobe shooting a lot? Damn that game was frustrating…

Before we all deride Kwame as the worst player since eboy’s heyday in the New Jersey Wheelchair Rec League, let’s take a look at Luke’s and Fisher’s stats last night. Now, ask yourselves, amongst that group, who did the best job at what they are asked to do? Kwame on offense is not a good thing, never has been, and never will be. That said, if Fish and Walton show up last night, we have a ball game. The loss was not the fault of Kwame, and the next two months does not ride on his shoulders (thank god). He is a big body, play good post defense, and that’s about it. Fickle, ignorant Laker fans…
Jan.18 at 3:39 pm
jay says:
if phil wants to keep kwame in the game, he should just not run play after play on offense for kwame, it does’nt help and no one wants to see that & what i dont understand why walton never gets called out for his lack of production and inconsistency.
Jan.18 at 3:48 pm
Myles Brown says:
Yeah, they played like sh*t Bodie, but the point is that we don’t expect that from them in the future do we? That game was an anomaly for them. But last night was something to be expected of Mr. Hands of a dead baby for the next two months. Whats so ignorant about that?
Jan.18 at 3:57 pm
tawanna says:
Kwame Brown is the biggest bum in the league, he couldn’t catch a cold. He misses so many easy lay-ups and dunks, I just can’t believe that someone who has been plaing basketball for so long does not have the basic skills needed to accomplish the little things it takes to be successful. Damn shame!!!!!!!!!! shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jan.18 at 3:58 pm
jbn74sb says:
Because he played exactly the way he is expected to play - he did his job. Fisher and Walton lost the game, and this fact escapes the average Laker fan, who has the basketball IQ of Nate Robinson.
Jan.18 at 4:08 pm
Myles Brown says:
Again, Fisher and Walton had bad games. Odom too, for that matter. I dont know how many times Walton tried to back his man down with that same unimaginative drop step into the post only to have it swatted past half court. And Fisher played like he still had those throwback shorts on. But the aforementioned waste of sperm is perpetually awful. Its ridiculous to absolve him of any blame just because we should expect him to suck. Especially at $9mil a season.

huh i say that mitch should have really thought about trading for this man with talent that doesnt know how to use it and go back and get caron butler cause this is one of the worse trades(shaq) the lakers have made over these last few years……i say they just go out a shop him around the league and see what they can get for them
and they should all so take him out and make him sit and let mihm play cause even he’s better then brown!

Kwame may not be that bad as advertised. He just can’t handle the starting spot. Kwame needed to be someone else’s backup thus ensuring He never had to catch the ball unless it’s for rebounding purposes only.
I think the Coaches should motivate him to be at least a rebounding force.

I agree with you white…It never made sense to even back then why in the world would they do that…If I remember it correcty, the end of the season before he was traded, kobe and butler were playing very well together…I would say the last 12-15 games of that season, they had the best on-court chemistry of any players combo on the lakers and mitch pulls a mitch and gets us Kwame…
