Charlie V: Sleepless in Milwaukee
One of the best things about player blogs is that guys feel they can be a lot more honest and candid in their posts than they would otherwise be during press conferences and other interviews. Gilbert Arenas made it trendy, and it looks like Charlie Villanueva is following in his footsteps.
Via his blog, we learn that Charlie V is rather miserable in Milwaukee, and doesn’t see himself in a Bucks uniform for very much longer.
Looking at my situation overall, I ask myself at times, do I see myself here long-term? I must say the answer to that question doesn’t sit to comfortable with me. I don’t know what the future holds. Anything can happen in this business. I would really like to make Milwaukee a part of my future, but it doesn’t seem realistic at this point in time unless something changes. The moves made by management in the last few months indicate to me that I’m not as important as I once was to this team. I’m not completely sold on my role with the Milwaukee Bucks.
As a result of his minutes taking a significant dip this season, Villanueava’s numbers are down across the board. It makes little to no sense that Charlie V. isn’t getting more burn in Milwaukee; it’s not like he’s hurt, or that they’re winning with him planted on the bench.
I guess Villanueva didn’t get the memo in the preseason that all of his minutes had been promised to Eazy Yi. Pity.

Trade him to the knicks

Dizzle says:
It’s a shame really. Sure he’ll never be the greatest player ever, but he could be a very decent one (maybe a guy who averages 16 and 8?) I think that his play in Toronto showed that he did have somewhat of a work ethic and he was ready to learn. But now with Eazy Yi coming along, he’s not getting consistant minutes. Sure he could earn more minutes in practice, but as a young guy with potential, he does deserve a little bit more. Even if the Bucks wanted to trade him, wouldn’t they play him a bit to show that he has some value?

Dizzle says:
What’s funny is that I could totally see him on the Knicks. And he’d be just coasting for the rest of his career because Isiah and co. would just throw mad cash at him like Jared Jeffries, Allan Houston, Eddy Curry, Jerome James, and etc.

Can you blame the guy? He’s probably pulling his ha— uh, nevermind.

Ryne Nelson says:
Charlie V is certainly Knick material, Dizzle. He’s been overhyped and has the potential to get overpaid. His skill set and effectiveness in this League are rock bottom. The Raps should be happy they got rid of that draft bust as early as they did.

I’d like to think Charlie would have found that funny. He’s a good dude. And I think he’s gonna find a spot somewhere. Agreed it’s not Milwaukee, though.

no they need a one dimensional loser who won’t shoot threes even if the game depended on it, minimum athleticism and shaky D. Good thing his dad is PJaxs friend.

I don’t know I would totally agree that he was overhyped. Mainly because everybody thought the Raps were crazy for taking him so high in the draft.

ouch Russ. Too bad, Charlie V was exciting to watch in toronto. i’d love to see him get some more burn elsewhere.
Jan.31 at 1:53 pm
Dizzle says:
Charlie’s been dealing with all those types of cracks for a while. I’m sure he can handle it. Plus Russ is an established member of the media, I’m sure he’s cool with it (as long as you guys run a story on him when he gets traded)

It’s not like he didn’t see the writing on the wall when the Bucks GUARANTEED minutes to Yi just to be able to sign him… I personally would have agreed to the minutes guarantee if he agreed not to hit the rookie wall.

How were the Raptors so crazy in drafting CV at the 7th pick, if Charlie turned out to be Rookie of the Year 2nd runner up and made All-Rookie First Team? Explaing that one. Plus on top of that he broke a rookie franchise record scoring 48-pts in 1-game, which hadn’t been done since Allen Iverson like 10-yrs ago, and 18-rebounds in another game. He was 2nd in scoring & rebounding among his draft class - know your facts dude. CV is actually a really great player, with all-star callibar potential. He’s a mobile Power Forward who can bring multiple ways of scoring. We don’t see that too much in the NBA now days with 6′10″ guys. He can also pass the ball well and has a high bball IQ. His only knock most would agree is defense. But he’s not that bad. He is an average defender, but at the end of the day, when your capable of averaging 20 & 8 if given 30mins of action, why worry about defense. Hence guys like Dirk Nowitzki, Al Harrington, Lamar Odom, Mike Miller, Hedo Turkoglu, Tim Thomas, Antawn Jamison, Andrea Bargnani, etc. Ain’t none of those dudes known for their defense; they’re known for what they do on offensive. It’s the NBA we’re talking about here folks. CV just needs to be in a team with a better situation that would known how to utilize him effectively to his maximum potential. The kid can flat out ball.

John E. Sanford says:
Tarzan, I totally agree that CV would be a good pick up for the Spurs. That way they can get rid of Elson, stop playing Bonner, and tell Horry to get the hell out of there.

But who would you rather have taking a game-winning shot in a game 7, Rob Horry or Charlie Regain?

GOAT says:
Charlie Villanoeyebrows was great as a Raptor, even with huge expectations from the fans (after being drafted so high, and our all-time draft bust Hoffa the year before). I’d like to see him get a chance to run somewhere else too…..I was thinking Robert Horry type game before it was mentioned above too.

Joel O's says:
Charlie V reminded me a lot of Derrick Coleman - in a good way - when I followed his rookie season up here in TO. He’s really good, very unselfish and with a boatload of skills. Underrated passer, too. I feel that by unloading him and getting Andrea, TO actually made a very… horizontal move. The “synergies” that the Raps have from getting more international helped, I guess, but it sucked to see him go, then get his shoulder messed up like that. Good luck… Chuck?

Joel O's says:
@Ryne: Have you even seen Charlie V play? “Rock bottom” is pushing it a bit far.

Paps says:
I like his game. He has an old school touch with his flips and finger rolls. Charlie Smooth. He would be best suited on a bad team (Knicks) where he could just play his game and get better.

word I think you guys are sh!tting on Charlie a bit hard, he’s had a couple of injuries and a lack of burn, I think he still has talent. I meant it when I said trade him to the Knicks, he could play.

i think Charlie V’s pretty talented. don’t know how his work ethic is, but talent-wise, its there.

Jordan Hagedorn says:
I live in Wisconsin and I happen to have gone to the Bucks/Raptors game 2 years ago when Chuck dropped 48 and had 9 boards. I think that’s the only reason the Bucks traded for him in the first place. I agree Vill. will find a home but it’s not Mil Town. He’s a second or third tier player at best and I hope someone who needs a hairless-roleplayer takes him off my Bucks’ hands.

Ryne Nelson says:
He’ll blow up for a small handful of games every year. Hardly worth coveting in a player. Consistency over all.
Jan.31 at 6:30 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Charlie’s only making $2.75 million per, so they’d probably want to package him with one of their bad contracts like Dan Gadzuric (four years left at $6 million per) or Bobby Simmons (three years left at $9 million per). Um, good luck with all that.

Being a fan of the game of basketball, I finally came to realize how the love for the game and the approach of winning doesn’t matter….The league is a business and as a fan, that is why I prefer to watch college basketball. I’d rather watch those kids on the floor who deserve to play and who want to win….
