Andre Miller Has Job Security

by Marcel Mutoni

When the Sixers finally got rid of the comically incompetent Billy King, one of the first moves that new GM Ed Stefanski was expected to make was trading point guard Andre Miller. Turns out that pundits had different ideas than Mr. Stefanski.

The new GM in Philly says that despite his recent cap-space saving trade of the popular Kyle Korver, he’s not looking to move the much-maligned point guard.

“The trade we made, we felt it set us up in the summertime to either get a free agent or a possible trade because we’re under the cap,” Stefanski said outside the Sixers’ locker room at KeyArena. “We don’t know who that player is.”

“We’re happy with our team and will see what happens in the summer, but I am not shopping Andre Miller around the league.”

Stefanski then went on to compare ‘Dre to Jason Kidd and Steve Nash in terms of making their teammates better, which is an overstatement to say the least.

Miller, who struggled early in the season but has come on of late (he’s averaging just over 16 points and 6 assists per night), has played the good soldier all season, and to his credit, hasn’t let the incessant trade rumors bother him.

That’s a nice thing to say and all, but I don’t believe it. What if Orlando offered Garrity, Arroyo, Redick and a pick? Or if Denver wanted him back for Nene and Linas Kleiza? Or if the Cavs sent Ira Newble, Damon Jones and…OK, not that one. Regardless, you’d think the Sixers would want to build towards the future AND clear a starting spot for Louis Williams.

Maybe he’s not being shopped around the League, but I’ll bet Ed still answers his phone when other teams call to inquire.

The other ‘dre (IGGY) is the better trade bait, hooked with a few other incentives the sixers could boat themselves a bigger fish than IGGY will ever be. His trade value is high right now, unless he’s hurt and I don’t know about it.

The thing with Lou Williams is he’s more of a scorer than a point. I think if you run him and Dre together, although it’ll be a small backcourt, Miller will get easy looks for Lou if Lou runs off the ball enough. Korver was getting layups because of Millers ability to thread the pass through the paint. And while he’s not on the level of Nash or Kidd in terms of value and talent, he’s a top 7 point guard in the league. He does make his teammates better by getting them the ball in ideal scoring situations and he plays tough D. Also, he’s a very good leader, which is what good point guards are.

Isn’t this what GMs always say right before they trade the player they’re takling about?

Is Miller the victim of being a good guy on bad teams, or is he just incapable of making his guys better? He does seem to get passed around alot. He’s a solid vet Point Guard in a League where there aren’t many. Makes me wonder…

Miller will not be traded. He’s a very capable guard in this league. Is anyone going to match his $10M? He’ll complete his final year in 2008/09 a Sixer.

Dre is just a great point guard, and lou williams is just another mini iverson. For me dre belong in the same room as jkidd nash. The numbers don’t show it but he does makes philly a better team. His defense is one off the best in the nba as far as point guards.

That Klieza and Nene trade seems a bit generous until you realize how much money Nene is owed and how much time is left on his contract. I’d rather trade JR Smith and Nene than Kleiza though if I was the Nuggets. I would like Iverson and Miller together more if I believed Miller could hit three pointers regularly.

Andre should go to Golden State. He’s a guy who could run with them given a bit of work but more than that he’s a solid guy to come off the bench behind Davis and he can step in to fill the void at least a little bit when Baron gets his annual injury.

To bad the Celtics have nothing to offer for Dre. Might Mouse to the Celtics? They’ll let him go below worth in Memphis. BTW: My man Pollard had himself a game. 10 P, a nickle rebounds, an assist, a steal, and 6 fouls in 13 Minutes against Yao, as best bench player. Perkins matched the 6 fouls, but only got 2 boards and 4 points in 25 Min.

Hey, they should make that Newble and Damon “Why- Are-You-Still-in-the-League” Jones trade!

FREE LOUIS WILLIAMS!!! Ya’ll saw his top play last night, right? Ridiculous.

Jon says:
Shannon, Free Lou by trading Willie Green instead of Miller. Williams has played very well lately in the backcourt with DreMillz.
