Agent Zero Wants His Money
He also talks about leaving DC
Forget the Lakers, the Wiz are the League’s most surprising team this season. Playing without their injured superstar shooting guard, Gilbert Arenas, Washington had done more than just tread water: Not only are they in Playoff contention (4th in the East), but they’ve forced everyone sit up a little straighter by beating the juggernaut Boston Celtics twice.
So, what’s the injured Gilbert talking about these days? How well his team is playing without him? Commenting on teammate Caron Butler’s near-MVP play, perhaps? Sure, he’s done a bit of that, but what Gil is really focusing on these days is his cash, homey! From his blog:
I want to get a six-year deal. I want to be a max player. If my team decides that they don’t want me here any more and they’re going to go in a different direction, then I got to look elsewhere. For me to look elsewhere, I want to go find a championship team who’s a championship contender. I’m going to have to take less money, but I’m willing to do that to win a ring. If my team doesn’t want me, then I’m going to another team and I’m going to take less money to go there.
Earlier in the week, GIl made similar comments and I’m a tad confused as to why he won’t shut up about his contract. Gilbert, you’re a max player; stop worrying about it. Your team would be crazy not to pay you (assuming your knee if fully healed, of course). You’re making everyone nervous for no reason. Just stop.
For the conspiracy theorists out there: Could it be, perhaps, that Gil secretly wants to leave DC for a larger market and this is his clumsily convoluted exit plan? Discuss.

You would be kidding yourself if you didn’t think Gil will be back with the Wizards. There is absolutely no way the team won’t re-sign him. Yes, Caron Butler is having a stellar year, and, yes, the team is playing quite well without him, but they are still a longshot at winning a ‘chip with Agent Zero, let alone without him.

Every NBA player has gotta think about their contract…we just hear about Gil more because he blogs whatever he thinks. And yeah he would be a nice fit for the warriors Eboy. A coach that encourages pull-up threes…thats gotta sound sexy to gilbert.

Caron has blossomed into a #1 option and it’s become apparent that that growth was stifled by Arenas’ presence on the court. I’d be scared of that too if i were Gil. He’s lookin like trade bait right now.

gil’s blogs has gotten old and tiring and the wizards can sign and trade him for better value for their team, which has found more success without him than with him…

Forget Gilbert Arenas! Let him leave D.C. and go wherever he wants to go! I think he’s feeling himself a little too much. And it’s obvious that it’s not about winning with him ’cause if it was he wouldn’t be talking about getting traded. He seems a little upset and embarrassed that his team is doing well without him after talking so much junk about his value to the team a while back. Ooops!

ahaha gilbert is too funny. He’s honest to a fault. I mean, c’mon, there are certain things you just keep to yourself but this guy just blogs about whatever he feels at that moment. But in reality, most of the stars in the NBA have Gilbert’s ego if not more. They’ve just been taught what to say and when to say it. With that said, however, Gilbert…. just stop.

Mark Z says:
If he doesn’t get resigned by the Wiz, I can see him showing up in Dallas or LA. I know he thinks of himself as an Entertainer, but right now he’s just a rehabbing player, sitting out the season. He shouldn’t be dicussing ‘max or else’. That’s a lousy strategy, especially with your team playing just fine without you.

Buro says:
The Wiz definitely play defense with a higher degree of intensity now with Gil out while also passing around the ball more in their offensive sets.
I heart Gil for what he brought to this moribund franchise over the past 4 years, but its really been an eye-opener seeing the potential of this Team playing TEAM concept basketball both offensively and defensively now that Caron and Jamison are the head honchos leading the team and the rest of the guys stepping up their game. Also the team is run far better in their offense with Antonio Daniels (granted this is not a viable long term option because of his advancing age, but he plays with a ton of heart, and is a solid locker room presence for the bunch of younger players) at the point than was the case with Gil running the point since he was never a natural point although with his talent he definitely could be. However mentally i think Gil always wants to be the ONE to score, standout which led to the tendency of him shooting way too much a lot of the times without lookin to move the ball around as it should be in the Princeton offense that Eddie Jordan likes to run. And in defense even the most ardent Gil fans have to admit that he never gave it his all. This led to a concomitant effect on the rest of the team defensively (reflected in the awful defensive rep that the team had over the years) especially since Gil projected himself as the leader of the team and when the self-proclaimed leader of the team doesn’t give it his all on defense and shoots way too much, it for sure didn’t help the morale of the rest.
What decision Grunfield makes regarding Gil and how much he is looking to pay Jamison (who’s in the last year of his contract) will affect how the Wiz pan out over the next 5 to 6 years. I would really like to have to him back but at the max level? I don’t know especially with the history of formerly proficient guys who were never the same after similar knee injuries.
Also all this talk of trading Gil for Curry and some Knicks, plzzzzzzzzzz noo. After many years we finally have a Wiz team playing with heart and passion on the court, i would hate to see it fritter away with a passionless player like Curry which would then have Haywood going back to his old hapless playing ways.

IMHO, Gil should sign for the league minimum with the Spurs. That’s an almost guaranteed ring. Plus it might teach him a thing or two about how to become a better teammate, not that he’s not a team player. He can always sign for max money after he gets his championship ring.
