Money: Source of Kidd’s Rage?
You might recall that Jason Kidd was quite upset with his team a couple of weeks ago. They were on a terrible slide, Kidd admitted to listening to big-haired bands from the 80s, and he sounded generally dejected.
After having been called out publicly by their captain, the Nets reeled off a bunch of wins, and Kidd was happy again. But was he really angry about the team’s play or was something else on his mind?
According to Dave D’Alessandro of the Star-Ledger, Jason Kidd had been denied a chance to discuss a possible contract extension, and as a result, he went off:
“Let’s face it, he considers himself the face of the franchise, and feels he should be rewarded as such,” one associate said. “And he’s still busting his butt, playing better than ever, and sees that they’re rewarding other guys. You can understand why the greatest player in franchise history believes he deserves to get what other guys are getting.”
Kidd, of course, is denying the whole thing.
Jason Kidd, 34, will make just under $20 million this season and his current deal with the Nets ends next year. Though he remains one of the great point guards in the League, with his advanced age, it’s easy to understand why the Nets organization would want to hold off any talks of a contract extension for the moment.

The Nets’ record is disrespectful.
Kidd is racking up triple-doubles as usual, but aside from RJ, the rest ain’t doing much. Last night Jason Maxiell was the star for the Pistons, what the hell? Sean Williams must start alongside Jason Collins, and let Malik Allen come off the bench. Thank you.

Jason Collins shouldn’t be starting period, let alone next to Sean Williams

Funny thing about this article. Obviously the team let this leak because they were pissed at Kidd for talking smart and wanted to make sure he wasn’t set up as a hero. The thing is, why doesn’t the article say that. It’s cool to talk about Kidd’s ulterior motives, that needs to be reported, but let’s not let the team slide on what it’s doing as well.

even though jason kidd is my favorite player (alongside KG), there’s no way he should be asking for an extension with TWO years left from his max contract. at least be reasonable and ask again next season.

Just a mere distraction from how bad the Nets really are. They expected to blame this on Kidd.

LAN. please, refrain from TXT-talk, will ya? And Kidd deservs just about anything from the Nets, without him they would still have been the door mat of the East. But really, why would he want a new max deal? If he would want to win, he should hook up with a potential top team lacking a PG(Magics, Mavs or Houston), or just hang out with the other seniors in Miami…

I don’t really know if Kidd deserves another max contract. I know he dishes the assists and rebounds, but his defense has been slipping (which is understandable, with age) but what the Nets REALLY need is a scoring option. And Kidd really really can’t score

[…] Despite Kidd saying that he’s happy in Jersey and would like to finish his career with the Nets, there’s something strange about the way he didn’t show up, especially considering the tenuous contract situation and how he’s felt about the team of late.
