Sleet-sleet-sleeted on…
Alright then. Feels like I’ve been away for months, but it hasn’t been that long. Actually, I’ve been gone for about a week, but this wasn’t a vacation or time off. Had a kinda serious family illness suddenly stick a loved one in the hospital last week, so I had to fly out to Atlanta at the last minute and just kinda hang around the hospital while the doctors figured out what was wrong and how to fix it. They finally got a grip on things earlier this week, and I flew back into NYC late yesterday, just in time to go see my main men Kevin Durant and Nick Collison. Then I made it home in time for the “Kid Nation” finale, which did not disappoint.
I basically spent the last week sitting around a hospital room, which is no fun at all. I did sneak away a few times, once to play golf (early Sunday morning), once for the Hawks/Raptors game and then late at night when things were calmed down to get to the movies.
At the behest of SLAM photographer Atiba Jefferson, my friend Bruce and I rented this movie called “Grandma’s Boy.” I’d seen it listed on cable the last few months but didn’t have much interest, but when Atiba and I were in Hawaii for the Kobe cover shoot, Atiba wouldn’t shut up about it, so I finally just rented it. And it’s pretty funny, especially the dude who goes around talking like a robot. The best description I saw was on a website that said, “Kind of like Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle crossed with ‘The Golden Girls.’” I’d give it a thumbs up.
I also went and saw “No Country For Old Men,” which was also great. Another thumbs up for that.
I made it back to New York in time for snow, which always sucks. I got sleet-sleet-sleeted on today as I walked from the subway to the office. Four days ago, I was playing golf in the ATL wearing shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. Today I’m dodging snow.
So…I’m trying to get back in the groove of things, returning calls and emails that have stacked up over the last week. Tomorrow I’ll be back with NBA thoughts.

Sorry to hear that Lang, best wishes to your family member. On the lighter side of things, what conclusions should we draw from your preference for stoner movies?

Lang, sorry to hear about the fam issues. Thoughts and prayers are being sent your way. I know how draining the hospital waiting game can get. Selfishly, I’m glad to have you back here, and can’t wait to read more of the links and NBA thoughts.

My condolence to you, Lang. It’s tough waiting around in a hospital hoping for positive news. Let’s hope for a speedy recovery. Nice to hear from you though.

I hope all is well with your Fam…. Kid Nation was excellent, i’m going to miss that show, although i was confused when i saw DK struggling to walk to ring the bell at the end of the task then when his parents came running in he was sprinting like a Michael Johnson. He was my favorite kid. I also liked the 9y/o asian kid who had bed hair the entire 40 days he was there.

on another note i’ve been following kid nation.. great show.. i thought last nights finale was the worst finale ive ever seen. CBS struck a new level of ingenuity with the cheap prizes.. small children can’t tell.. ive seen people win more on Jeopordy than they won on the whole season of kid nation.. great show

Grandma’s boy is a crack up, stumbled across it completely by accident….produced by Adam Sandler. ‘Mmmmm, I have a robot vagina…’

@Richie: I think you’re talking about my main man Alex, the kid with the single front tooth?
@robertp: I’ve seen worse finales, most recently the Beauty and the Geek finale, which they stretched out into an hour-long recap of the entire season. I was disappointed at the Kid Nation finale when they didn’t give all the kids $20 G’s, though.

im not sure what to think about kid nation, i dont know if recruting the best of the best was good or bad for that show, and i also think the kids with the 20gs stars deserved the 50gs more, too bad they switched it up..they should have also let them actually compete for some prizes instead of always choosing who deserved it.
