LeBron Offers Varejao Boo Protection

by Marcel Mutoni

We are often told that what defines a great player is his ability to elevate the play of his teammates. LeBron James is a great player - as evidenced by the Cavs stopping their ugly five game losing streak when he made his return last night - and it appears that he’s an equally great teammate.

Last night, Cavs fans got to see Anderson Varejao for the first time since the NBA Finals, and thanks to LBJ, he didn’t get booed lustily. James says he asked head coach Mike Brown to come off the bench along with Larry Hughes and Varejao so that the Brazilian wouldn’t feel the wrath of the home fans.

‘’I thought it would raise the intensity of the fans, having me, Larry and Andy come in at the same time, and it worked,'’ James said.

‘’I thought by coming in with Andy, it might stop the boos Andy might get; just protecting my teammates.'’

Is there anything this guy doesn’t do for the Cavs?

I mean, classy, i guess, but doesn’t sideshow deserve some boos for d!cking his team around for a quarter of a year? Public shaming is the only answer to selfish athletes…shoulda let that happen, Bron.

“That’s a charming story and it did work…
But it’s not 100 percent true. Brown didn’t discuss his substitution pattern with James; he was the one who made the move. Not that Brown wanted to get in the way of James’ poetic statements.” From another game report, written by the same author. I guess, it’s all about perception for the king.

TAD, from a cynical point of view, I agree with Bigsmooth. But to be “SLAM-friendly” it’s better to just say that it was a cool move by the kid.

But you are right Eboy, Andy doesn’t really deserve this treatment from LeBron after the sh*t he pulled.

LBJ got that kind of power already that he can tell the head coach when, how, and who’s coming into the game at what time? better not piss him off Mike Brown! I’d love to see what their huddles are like in a close game…

After reading the title I thought Lebron had agreed to either protect Varejao’s “Boo” from other NBA playa’s or just promised not to do her himself… woulda been way more interesting.

LeBron is a f*ckin’ @$$hole for doin’ something classy and then pointin’ out that he did something classy. What’s next? Is he going to donate money to charity and then tell everyone that he did it for tax reduction?

I’d say Brown’s the liar on this one. It might be my intense, unbiased love for King James, but he wouldn’t lie like that.

James acted opportunistically. Not a good sign.

Dec.12 at 7:37 pm

Not a good sign for what exactly? His capacity to lead this team to victories? Non-story.

D-Advocate says:
The player on the Cavs that looks like sideshow Bob, deserved to get boooooed. He wanted to get payed more than what he was worth. Andy/Bob is acting like he’s Lebron’s sidekick, he’s like the sixth or seventh best player on the team, he should of got kicked to the side.

just cus hughes got 36 doesnt mean anything(see craig smith) hes still not a consistent performer

Dre Bladwin says:
i wonder if kobe would do this. the “lebron off the bench” thing makes sesne now, that he asked to not start. i always wonder why a player coming back from injury needs to come off the bench instead of starting. what is the difference?
