Kyle Korver Swapped for Gordan Giricek

by Marcel Mutoni

The Philly Sixers and Utah Jazz exchanged sharp-shooters over the weekend: Gordan Giricek is now a Sixer, while Kyle Korver joins the Jazz.

Giricek’s time in Utah was done anyway; you don’t get on Jerry Sloan’s bad side and expect to stay on the team. Gordan knew it, too:

Giricek said he wasn’t surprised by the trade because he had asked for the move.

“I loved the city, but somehow I couldn’t find a right spot with the team,” he said. “The only thing I asked always is to be respected as a man. Not as a basketball player, just as a man. And I didn’t feel that was so.”

The deal works out beautifully for both teams: Philly gets a good shooter (with an expiring contract; the deal will end up saving the ballclub about $15 million), and Utah rids itself of one headache and acquires a guy - despite his early season struggles - with the capacity to stretch the defense.

Stefanski already getting rid of a King contract. That should tell you just how bad King was. Kyle was well liked in Philly. Played hard, was active in the community, and always seemed humble. Best of luck to him in Utah, he’ll have the players around him to compliment him well.

Captain America says:
Giricek is fish food. Anyone care to argue with Sloan’s winning ways?

Korver will flourish in Utah with their post players and a Deron Williams running the point.

RV says:
oh and i agree great move for the jazz, Korver is closer to Boozer and Deron’s age, they’re forming a nice nucleus there

Dec.31 at 2:04 pm

RV says:
the report says Tmac “quietly” has let it be known he wants out, like thats possible…

Dec.31 at 2:06 pm

TADOne says:
The story is from the Chicago Tribune? Sounds like a Sam Smith BS trade rumor again.

probably, if its not on ESPN/YAHOO!/SLAM by now, there’s probably not much proof behind it

How you not even gonna mention the 1st round pick the Sixers got? You had all weekend to write it and you still let it slip. Get your game up Mutoni.

Finally, the Jazz have some range…but what’s up with Philly? A rebuilding season…AGAIN???

Dec.31 at 2:57 pm

TADOne says:
The Sixers have been “rebuilding” since 2001.

Fools, the trade was intended to create cap space for the Sixers. To all you idiots wondering what Stefanski is doing… I have only four words for you: Elton Brand. Gilbert Arenas.

How the Jazz gonna just swap white folks?

Russ Bengtson says:
Sam Smith also made up Hinrich/Wallace for Hughes/Gooden. Which I think I could live with maybe. What do the Rockets need?

Dec.31 at 5:29 pm

RV says:
if the rockets are going to give up tmac, in return they need at least one guy who can create his own shot off the dribble, i dont mean a star, just someone who doesn’t need to post up or shoot a set shot.

Dec.31 at 5:32 pm

RV says:
overall, the rockets can use a consistent shooting pg and an athletic big man. (hint: tyrus)

Dec.31 at 5:35 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Want Big Ben and Tyrus?

Dec.31 at 5:42 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Tyrus, Noc, Gordon and Khyrapa works as well, but the Rockets would have to buy people out and the Bulls would be mighty thin.

Dec.31 at 5:46 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
So…how about a 10-player deal? Tyrus, Noc, Gordon, Wallace and Khyrapa for T-Mac, Skip, Mike James, Scola and Kirk Snyder?

Dec.31 at 6:06 pm

Spurs DYNASTY!! says:
that would be a good trade for houston because it helps there front line but chicago’s line would be really thin with noah gray and scola
who wont be that good at first but there backcourt would be really good with hinrich and t-mac and as long as deng stays there they would be alright..

Dec.31 at 6:28 pm

RV says:
that would be tempting, but where’s our shooting pg? Gordon can shoot, but can’t direct an offense, an if Hayes played 40 mins a night he’d get the same numbers ben gets now (including the 2 for 10 shooting). Wouldnt it also leave chicago with too many pgs (rafer, hinrich, duhon, james)

Dec.31 at 7:20 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Sub Duhon for Tyrus?

Dec.31 at 7:49 pm

RV says:
i’m guessing they pretty much have to include wallace to make it work and worth it, but hayes has better defensive intangibles, knows his role and passes better, ben would just bring 1-2 blocks more and rebounds, but we already rebound well as a team. I guess i could have just said Ben sucks

Dec.31 at 7:53 pm

RV says:
they should just trade Rashard Lewis straight up for tmac, or some other throw-ins to make it work (reddick would be nice)

Dec.31 at 8:53 pm

Slamyomama says:
tmac back to orlando imagine him and dwight man that would be great

Dec.31 at 11:49 pm

LAN says:
t-mac stay in houston. houston trade a pg for a pf.

Dec.31 at 11:51 pm

LAN says:
and has ne1 thought of puttin korver into the d or another jazz player so we can bring in morris almond!

Jan.1 at 1:04 am

LAN says:
how about francis for yi jianlin. yao n yi frontcourt.

Jan.1 at 2:36 am

hursty says:
Lan that just brings revenue and all star ballots. There is no way Tmac is traded to the bulls, and as much as i like Tmac, if they turn down Kobe, then um, not gonna happen.
Only way a trade goes down (with any team) is if it includes ist round picks (for the OJ Mayo draft), scoring PF. We already have two aggro scrappers in Scola and hayes and a back up centre (mutombo is retiring). Oh yeah and a tall, dominant guard. i dont know about cap space etc, maybe u can throw up players.

Jan.1 at 4:52 pm

Talo says:
TMac is a loser

Jan.1 at 5:45 pm

RV says:
i dont think they ever turned down kobe, they just said they werent trading tmac to stop the rumors from even beginning. They’d be fools not to trade kobe for tmac straight up, but they wont come out and say it and risk pissing off tmac

Jan.6 at 1:52 pm

BIG_JACK says:
Crap trade. Kyle can run rings around Giricek.
