Jason Kidd: ‘What, I Can’t Get Sick?’
Jason Kidd and the New Jersey were in full damage control mode yesterday. Kidd denied that he was staging a strike by not showing up to the Knick game on Wednesday night and defended his right as a human being to get sick. The Nets appeared to stand by him.
“I didn’t miss a game due to unhappiness. That’s the first thing to clear up. I was sick,” said Kidd.
“Jason … assured me that he had indeed been under the weather and was not able to play,” [team president Rod Thorn] said. “He has too much respect for the game to ever do anything like that. If you look at his record, nobody’s been tougher than he. Nobody’s played under adverse circumstances more than he has.”
Despite Kidd saying that he’s happy in Jersey and would like to finish his career with the Nets, there’s something strange about the way he didn’t show up, especially considering the tenuous contract situation and how he’s felt about the team of late. One gets the feeling that this saga is far from over.

When you’re an all-star on a losing team you can’t use sick or other personal reason as an excuse of not playing.
That’s just the way it is.

One also gets the feeling that sportswriting is 95% redundant nonsense. When does any of that “Alert, here is a guy who might get traded” ever come true?

when iverson got traded…when mcgrady got traded…when steph got traded, a lot. even if nothing happens, it shows discontent, and it thus news worthy.

Besides…migraines are not an isolated incident that just shows up once and leaves. It is ongoing and requires a bit of work to get rid of.

i think the nets can’t make news with their record so they do this to generate publicity. it works.

funny thing with kidd is, in 2003, he had just finished 2 back to back finals appearances where his team was clearly too weak, and the big man who put down a near quadruple double to beat him was sayin, “come play with me. oh and we’ll even give you max money!” he said no and ended up with vince carter, while the other guy got 2 more rings in the same span. hindsight’s a muhf***a. i love jason kidd’s game, which is why i wish he had not had to waste these past 4 yrs with that crappy team in jersey.

I don’t see how Jason Kidd could possibly think his teammates aren’t giving 100 percent every night.

Love the sarcasm Russ.

I’ll admit, though–sarcasm aside for the moment–I don’t it at all when a player who’s already guaranteed max money for this season AND next season can consider it disrespectful that they haven’t been extended FURTHER. Seriously? During a time when most people don’t have any job security at all and homes are being repoed left and right? That $40 million over the next two years just isn’t enough respect for you? Stuff like that is what makes me think pro sports as a whole are gonna blow up entirely in the next 10 years.

I agree. Sports contract are crazy now. Everyone I know works 50+ hrs a week for standard wages. Homes to buy in Toronto are 400,000+. That is a lot of money. Then you see an athlete make millions it’s hard to take, guys like Jeter, Tiger and Bron. It’s crazy. The common man can’t afford to go to these games.

i thnk all of u who think kidd should be traded, and team is not that great, u guys are a lil wrong, ye their off to a bumpy start, but this team has a 3 headed monster if all them are healthy, vc,richard j, and j-kidd, add along kristic, this team is legit, no one should be worrying just yet,if vince would just move the ball a bit, hey this team is like the celts, yes i no they dont have a legit big man in kg, but still the celts have rondo, perkins, PERKINS FOR GOD SAKES, hes playing well, but hes right there with kristic also, rondo is like the marcus williams, glen davis is like boone, this team has all the right ingredients, its just a question if they can get it togetther.

sjeeezy, i think krstic is dunzo. however, if they started sean williams over malik allen… (???) my fantasy team would be doing much better.

I vote that anyone who uses the term “three headed monster” when referring to the Nets gets tasered

Yeah the pro athletes shouldnt be b*tchin about getting disrespected by not having multi-mill contracts extended but i ain’t gonna hate on them. They worked hard to get where they at and get to the point where they can command millions in pro contracts. If i wanted to make the same millions as a pro i should/would have worked just as hard to do so. J-kidd shouldnt whine about his contract but neither should we about what they are making. Someone is obviously paying them that amount and agreed to do so.

I don’t know about the whole “migraine.” It seems kinda strange that he doesn’t have a history of getting those but all of a sudden he has to miss a game because of that. Although I don’t think he should’ve done what he did if he wasn’t really sick, I can see how he’s feeling. Then man is 34 and he’s not getting any younger. He’s trying to get a chip before he’s done playing and he doesn’t feel as if the Nets are putting him in a position to go after that.
Kidd and King James would make a nice 1-2 punch…

Jukai….I second that motion. They are a three headed monster that scares no one.
And Kidd wants more money cuz he doesn’t wanna end up like Jordan and Pippen… paying the ex gazillions and then playing games in Sweden. Also, I love how Thorn says Kidd would never diss the game… yeah and that whole missing shots on purpose to get rebounds thing is OK. Kidd and Nash may both be great palyers, the difference is Nash really looks to help his team win.. Kidd just looks for stats and glory… selfish d*ick. (see comment by JJ) He deserves whatever he gets.

Migraines are one of the worst things people can suffer. I once tried to play through one (headache, throwing over, seeing mostly little stars), just to show I’m cool, but that was one of the worst experiences of my life and is something I will never do again. Sh*t… You can’t work on migraines, they just happen. So unlike almost everybody else in this comments I stand behind JKidd.
