Is Kwame Brown Better Than Andrew Bynum?
The above, of course, is a completely ridiculous question. Kwame is nowhere near Andrew’s class as a basketball player; once dude learns how to catch a ball, then maybe we can begin having a discussion. So, why isn’t Andrew Bynum’s starting spot etched in stone?
In Cleveland to play (and lose to) the Cavs last night, head coach Phil Jackson refused to say who’d be his starting center once Kwame returns from his knee injury.
“I have no comment on that because I haven’t really seen Kwame play,” Jackson said. “I would imagine Kwame would go back to being a starter. I’m not going to make a comment on that yet.”
Phil, long known for engaging in psychological warfare with his players and opponents alike, could simply be playing mind games with young Andrew to keep him motivated.
I sure hope that’s all it is, because I don’t think I could continue to support this team if Bynum is coming off the bench.

Anybody else thing Andrew Bynum looks like a double-sized Tracy Morgan?

jbn74sb says:
It would depend on matchups. Because he was the #1 pick, is always hurt, was derided by MJ, and can’t catch, people ignore the fact that he is an absolute beast on the defensive end. Sideshow would have been knocked back to Brazil if Kwame were healthy last night, and the Lakers would have won.

I really cant stand Varejo. I think he’s my least favorite player ever. But Kwame might be second.

And yes, Bynum does look like Tracy Morgan. I just hope he doesnt end up naked with a toy light saber on the Santa Monica Freeway.

Varejo is like Ginobli. You hate em, but would love to have them on your team. I have my fingers crossed that Sasha can progress into Ginobli-light.

That’s who he looks like! Thanks Jared, you are absolutely right.

jbn74sb says:
To me, Bynum looks like a guy who puts up better numbers than Shaq at approximately 1/10 the cost.
Dec.21 at 1:26 pm
Myles Brown says:
Ginobli actually possesses tangible basketball skills though. All Varejo does is fall down. And Sasha has improved his consistency and shot selection, but he just doesnt move very well in the open court.

I have enjoyed Bynum’s timely emergence as a beast. I wouldn’t trade him for almost anyone these days.

Bryant Reeves says:
would it be absurd to suggest playing Kwame at the 4 and moving Odum to the 3?
Dec.21 at 1:28 pm
Jared says:
The only thing Ginobli and Varejao have in common is that they’re of the same gender. Nowhere near the same league. I’ll give you that Andy goes all out, which Balkey does too, but as far as talent…Balkey’s the man.

Reggie Evans says:
Varejao should be getting paid more.

Bryan says:
even if Bynum peaks at 19 and 11 next year or the year after , Kobe can work with that.
Dec.21 at 1:32 pm
jbn74sb says:
The comparison between Ginobli and Sideshow was just based on them being annoying little pr-cks on the court. But don’t discount a player like Sideshow. While he may be a scrub, he is the reason they won the game last night.

I’m not saying that’s his ceiling or anything , but just saying if it was.

Indeed.

Andrew is clearly the better player. He is playing well mostly on the defensive end, but has shown some flashes of brilliance on offense. His offensive game is so raw sometimes you can see him think methodically through his moves before he makes them. He blew two HUGE freethrows against Cleveland last night, but if the dude could put it together in the next 2 years, we should be discussing who’s better: Bynum or Howard?

Phil, get your thong out of your ass and just tell everyone that Bynum will start the rest of the season. Kwame Brown? Kids, please go to college. play wit it.

Its just another Phil Jackson psychological ploy. See, now is one of those times when I wish I knew how to make that copyright symbol. Ryan, where are you?

Allenp says:
Bynum gets better touches when KObe’s not in the game. So playing him with Farmar (underated passer and shooter) guarantees him a lot of touches and a good vibe. The Lakers current starting five is a little light on defense and rebounding as the Cavs proved over and over last night.

I like Kwame in the starting lineup. It makes the Lakers benc extremely good. Not only that i think Kobe is better with Kwame in the game becasue he has to play sharper on offense casue he knows Kwame is a liability. If you notice before Kwame went out Kobe was averaging 30pts on 48% shooting about 7.5 boards and 5 assists. Since hes been at about 24pts on 43% shooting 5 boards and 5 assists.

jbn74sb says:
Warning: Use of stats to analyze success as basketball player coming.
Every player ahead of Bynum in rpg and bpg plays more mpg than he does. And this isn’t some freak who gets 4 boards and a block per game in 5 minutes. We’re talking 10 rpg and 2 bpg. And he just turned 20. Dude really does have a chance to be special.

the better question is, do you guys think Phil’s antics are helping Bynum? if i were him i’d be gettin pretty tired of it at this point.. this has been happening since forever.
Dec.21 at 2:24 pm
Kevin says:
iono.. i jus believe in rewarding young players. maybe Kwame does make the Lakers lineup more rounded this way.. but i think Bynum deserves his 35mins a game at this point.

OE says:
I Don’t think that there is even a need for this discussion, Bynum is without a doubt the better player, and if Phil isn’t playing mind games, then i’m starting to lose faith in this laker team. Bynum is your new young Shaq, and when Kobes game is done, start him with a star shooting guard and you’ll have the Kobe and Shaq of old

I hate how ppl jock bynum and hate kwame, bynum is not that cold, from what I see is he jus catch a oop 3 times a game, and he had a double double but what about givin up 15 boards to sideshow bob comin off tha bench, its a wash, if one is garbage for bein rated like 73 overall and is 25 how is someone who is like 71 overall waaaay better jus because he younger

Kwame is one of the worst basketball players i have ever seen on the offensive side, especially given his impressive size. He just has no feel for the game. And I’m sorry, Kwame a “beast” on the defensive side? Maybe when he’s throwing cake at people. other than that, no way!

Is it really the end of the world if Bynum comes off the bench? Manu Ginobili and Jason Terry beg to disagree.
Dec.21 at 7:15 pm
RaptorsFan says:
They both stink. Bynum has more potential but will never be a 15 and 10 player. I see Bynum as a Brendan Haywood type player. Always underachieving and averaging 8 and 8 with a couple of blocks. Kwame is horrendous, i’d trade im for a couple of basketballs. So to answerthe question NO Kwame is not better than Bynum. But they both are not legitimate starters in the NBA.
Dec.21 at 10:23 pm
Sesa says:
I’d choose Bynum to come over the bench too hoping that he will brought his 10 points 10 rebounds and 1+assist from the bench.
Kwame is good enough for setting screens and weak side block shots. At least you had to give credit to Kwame on weak side blocked shots this season.
Once Chris Mihm back into 100%, Kwame is done.

A.K.G. says:
Phil Jackson loves to play mind games. He wants Bynum to work hard to keep his spot as a starter, and he wants Kwame to still have confidence in his abilities when he comes back into the lineup. That’s pretty much it. There’s nothing more to it. Whoever plays better will get more burn.

I think that Kwame is no where near Andrew in skills. This was just one of Phil’s mind games to keep him motivated. Andrew will have a starting spot and be a better player than Kwame ever was or will be.
