Is Kidd Sending a Message With Day Off?

by Marcel Mutoni

The big news in the New York/New Jersey area today isn’t about the Knicks’ somewhat surprising road win in The Swamp last night, it is instead the speculation as to why Jason Kidd didn’t play in the game. Officially, a migraine kept him out of action, but others aren’t so sure.

Lang touched on this during his version of The Post Up, and now we take a look at a story in the NY Post which claims that Kidd sat out because he was on strike:

Jason Kidd was “on strike” last night, several team sources claimed. He essentially called in sick, perhaps seeking to force a trade from the Nets or gain a contract extension.

“Everyone is going to have to sit down and figure out where we go from here … He’s on strike.” one source claimed.

What’s with NY-area point guards refusing to show up for work?

Yahoo! Sports also picked up on these claims, and as we had mentioned a little while back in this space, Kidd is reportedly desperate to team up with LeBron James in Cleveland.

Where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire, and right now it looks as if the Nets could be preparing to say goodbye to the best player in their franchise’s history.

If he goes, he’ll wind up back in Dallas.

bobby stew says:
The Cavs would be better off with a healthy Bibbby. They need a point guard and a scorer. Kidd can’t give you 20pts consistently and even Kidd can’t make the Cavs roster that much better with his passes. Trade Larrry Hughes and Gibson for Bibby and Moore.

Lieutenant Shinysides says:
cavs, mavs, or lakers. i doubt he wants to go west.

even Kidd can’t make the Cavs roster that much better with his passes. …..easily, one of the most ignorant things i have ever heard.

if he goes, im going too.

Dec.6 at 10:42 am

Myles Brown says:
Terry, Stackhouse & Eddie? I could see that. Kidd, Harris, Howard, Dirk & Dampier? I don’t know. That team could probably play nice defense and would certainly score, but the bench is thin and Kidd isnt getting any younger. But neither are those other guys. It could work, but I wouldnt bet on it.

Keith says:
How long before Kobe gets asked whether he wants him in Los Angeles? And then how long before Kobe puts in a ‘Get Kidd or trade me’ ultimatum? Of course, he’d later deny it claiming it probably never happened.

Myles Brown says:
If Bynum wasnt going anywhere before, he certainly isn’t now. Everyone, including ______, knows that.

Myles Brown says:
‘Not only am I the most attractive player in Cleveland, I am the most attractive player in the NBA. If I decide to go out to dinner or a club after a game, you’ll never see Damon Jones running behind any women. I don’t have to. women choose. If a woman is interested in Damon Jones, she’s going to have to pursue me or we will never meet. I don’t have to pursue any woman. I have what every woman wants. I’m attractive, I’m charismatic, I’m rich. I’m every woman’s dream.’

white hot eboy says:
Again, who the Cavs give up? Gooden, Hughes and Boobie?

Dec.6 at 10:49 am

Myles Brown says:
Not that I want the discussion to steer this way, but I just had to share.

Dec.6 at 10:52 am

white hot eboy says:
And who do the Lakers give up? Odom, Mihm, Farmar and Turiaf?

Dec.6 at 10:52 am

Myles Brown says:
Big Z and Hughes match in salary, but not in talent or productivity. Theres really no one else I’d give up if I were Cleveland. And I can’t imagine what NJ would even want on that roster if it cant be Bron. And its not like Cleveland is the only team who’d want Jason Kidd.

Dec.6 at 10:53 am

Lieutenant Shinysides says:
its a good thing that damon is humble, because being in the nba and all, it would be easy to get caught up in yourself and have illusions of grandeur.

Dec.6 at 10:53 am

Myles Brown says:
Interesting proposition, sir.

Dec.6 at 10:55 am

Myles Brown says:
Lamar is really struggling this year and I wouldnt mind seeing him go, for the right player of course. But he is valauable to the team in the post and trading him for Kidd would put a lot more pressure on the frontcourt to score since _ason isnt gonna be counted on for much.

Dec.6 at 10:55 am

white hot eboy says:
Kidd and Sean Williams to LA?

Dec.6 at 10:57 am

Myles Brown says:
I wouldn’t trade Williams. They’d definitely want Bynum then.

Dec.6 at 10:58 am

white hot eboy says:
Turiaf could be productive in NJ, no?

Dec.6 at 10:58 am

Dark says:
Kidd could make Varejao look like he’s worth 10 mil a year.

Dec.6 at 10:59 am

Simone Lawy says:
j-kidd for iverson ……anyone

Dec.6 at 11:00 am

Myles Brown says:
I don’t think he’s as versatile as Williams though. Plus this is the last year of his contract. Even if that were an even trade of talent, Turiaf could just walk away this summer. They’ve got Williams locked up for four more years.

Dec.6 at 11:00 am

Andrew says:
best franchise player? what about Dr J?

Dec.6 at 11:01 am

Keith says:
How about teh Heat engineering a trade? They need some reliable point action - admittedly Shaq would really struggle getting up and down the court but still..could a package be put together? Haslem and Davis in there somewhere?

Dec.6 at 11:02 am

white hot eboy says:
The future HOf’er, Mr. Mihm is not attractive, huh? Man, I miss Bodie.

Dec.6 at 11:02 am

Keith says:
Good point Andrew.

Dec.6 at 11:04 am

white hot eboy says:
Keith, Haslem, Davis, Eboy and Blount could move, but I don’t think Kidd would like it. Although him, Shaq and Wade are a way better combo than Lebron/Kidd. Won’t happen.

Dec.6 at 11:04 am

Myles Brown says:
The Nets were an ABA franchise when they had the Doc.

Dec.6 at 11:05 am

Rasheedionics says:
I dont think Nets will trade Kidd… There’s no way they can get an equal value back for him. Jason Terry? Stackhouse? Odom? Are you kiddin me? Nets will do whatever they have to do to make him happy.

Dec.6 at 11:06 am

Myles Brown says:
Win?

Dec.6 at 11:07 am

Keith says:
Good point Myles.

Dec.6 at 11:07 am

Hands up who else is glad VC signed that contract and is now potentially screwed through the next few years of his career? *hand is up*

Dec.6 at 11:09 am

white hot eboy says:
Keith, since we are dreaming, how about Vince, RJ, S. Williams & picks for Lebron?

Dec.6 at 11:11 am

Ryan Jones says:
Damon Jones has really, really ugly feet. We’ve seen them. They’re horrendous. I’m sure that doesn’t keep him from getting girls, but it’s worth noting.

Dec.6 at 11:11 am

PICCOLO says:
id rather see j-kidd in la uni’s hes better off with kobe, look what happened on the usa team, but what about my nets? vince is very inconsistent and it would be an impossible task for them to get back to the playoffs this season.

Dec.6 at 11:17 am

BETCATS says:
how about the Bobcats entire bench for Kidd and a pair of prostetic knees so he can play forever?

Dec.6 at 11:18 am

white hot eboy says:
Ryan, why are you looking at a man’s feet? Gross, dude.

Dec.6 at 11:18 am

Keith says:
That would be mighty attractive for the Nets but not so sure the Cavs would be too pleased. Losing LeBron is like getting a girl into bed only for her to see your feet and jump straight back out again - The chance for glory gone in an instant.

Dec.6 at 11:19 am

Bryan says:
Dammit I always join too late now. I don’t think the cavs have anything to get JKidd.

Dec.6 at 11:20 am

Nets won’t take Cavs and Lakers garbage for someone as awesome as Kidd. You have to give us Lebron. Kidd sure whines a lot.

Dec.6 at 11:44 am

It just seems right, Shia. Hey, wasn’t Andruw Jones the dude who was cool to your brother before he passed?

Dec.6 at 11:48 am

jason kidd is in the age and career part of being in the NBA that you want to win a title. in about four to five years he will retire with a championship ring on his finger. he will need to be on a team that has a championship calibar team, just like the spurs, mavs, cavs, or the chicago bulls should trade ben gorden for kidd.

Dec.6 at 12:24 pm

BuckshotLefunkstiggity says:
NJ would demand Devin Harris, not Jet. Bottom line: it’s got to be LA, Dallas or Houston. Stop looking for team-2-team trades. A 3rd team will get involved after the 15th to get Jersey more pieces. Lakers want to deal but won’t include Bynum under any circumstances. No chance Thorn trades him to Cleveland or any other eastern conference team for that matter.

Dec.6 at 12:52 pm

kyle says:
yo, this is dirty. Kidd grows tired of Jersey, and starts sitting? I’m calling it right now, this could get very, very ugly. A la vince carter toronto ugly.

Who wants to start the betting on where Kidd ends up? fifty on Houston.

Dec.6 at 1:04 pm

Jukai says:
that’s great, Jason Kidd to the Cavs. Who the hell would the Cavs give up…. Gooden, Gibson and Varejo? The Nets need big men so they’d have to load up the Nets, and then replace a point guard in the process. But that still seems like a horrendous deal for New Jersey.

How bout atlanta with all the young talent their Kidd couls definitly make some noise. they need a good point guard. Offload Josh Smith for Kidd and keep Joe Johnson and Al Horford. Or get rid of Childress.

We can give up the whole bench and run with five for the rest of the season on some summer time blacktop ball chyt! Who cares who we give up or keep. Getting Kidd for anyone or six players on our roster not named King is an upgrade.

Dec.6 at 5:51 pm

neaorin says:
Kidd is almost 35. (Hard to believe, but it’s true). Gooden, some expiring contracts and a first rounder should do it; just look at what the Nets gave up for a disgruntled Carter. And, much to my dismay, Varejao can’t be traded until the offseason.

if your gonna trade kid it should be for a good big man because every great team usually has one good big man.
