Heat Basketball Academy: Where Learning is Optional

At least it isn’t advertised as an actual school.

Here’s something you don’t see every day. Located in Martinsville, VA, this overlooked collection of high school post-graduates, former college players and overseas prospects–all brought together in the hopes of gaining interest from major-college programs–practice twice daily (at least) and play a schedule of prep schools and small colleges. Australian Ater Majok–a one-time Baylor committed mentioned in coverage of adidas Nations this past summer–is the star attraction.

Oh My GOD!! Ater!!! Aussies represent. I’m 16 and worked with him and coach smith for ages in west sydney. Ater only started playing when he was 16. this is so crazy. That heat academy sounds brilliant too. I’m gonna have to talk to coach when he gets back. This is so big! Yeh. Ater flat out kills people over here. he scored like, 65 out of 70 for the American International school this summer (your USA winter). Man… sick handles, 3 ball, way too much potential.Kevin Durant your being replaced!! (they have almost exactly the same body) 210 pounds, 6′9 and 6′10. Same wingspan, except Ater will actually eat you up.

Hursty, I saw Ater ball this summer, so I can confirm he’s legit. If he was a permanent US high school baller, he’d definitely be ranked somewhere in the top 50-100 seniors, maybe higher. Glad your fellow countryman is making you proud, mate!

a.sam, this is honestly the happiest ive been in a long time. The hours he puts in are just amazing. 5am sessions, workouts most times during the day, then 4x a week weights. I was suprised to find out ed had sent out so many guys though. The centers he worked with are all from areas around africa who are all built railthin, no fat. There are some guys who are like 7′3. coach smith is a brillaint guy, he just helps people whever he goes. just flat out helps them.
