The NBA Wants Tim Duncan to Start
There was a bit of a hubbub last week over Tim Duncan’s listing on the All-Star ballot. The Spurs were upset because the NBA listed Tim as a center, all but assuring that he’d lose the starting spot at the mid-season classic (due to Yao Ming’s worldwide popularity).
Since Tim Duncan is, well, Tim Freaking Duncan, the NBA has him now listed as a power forward, his true position on the floor.
“It’s great,” Duncan said. “I have an opportunity to make the team now. I need to start playing a little better, but I have an opportunity to be back on the ballot at forward and to have a chance to start is an honor.”
Justice! In all likelihood, Duncan will make his 10th consecutive All-Star start for the West in February.

I bet when Tim Duncan said ‘It’s great’ it was the first time he showed any emotion. Robots DO have feelings.

David Stern - once again giving into the collective wills of Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs.

I don’t like this. the ballots should be made by position and the players listed by their real position, so we would choose the points, the guards, the forwards, the PF and the centers; makes more sense to me, and we wouldn’t have these kind of tricking the elections thing.

Yao Ming’s worldwide popularity? Excuse me, but where is he popular besides China and Huston!? Of course his popularity in China is more than enough to make the starting line-up. But in this year, the interesting part is going to be the East, and the great first round pick of the Bucks…

Easy Yi is gonna surpass Yao’s record for most all-star votes by a rookie. More ppl have internet access in China.

bah, we coulda beat Yao if we just made sure every crucian and tourist went to foot locker and picked up a ballot. Or better yet, have ballots at harveys, hovensa, and the rum distillery. Internet access however, not so prevalent…

Sternbot and his love for the Spurs … why shouldn’t he? It’s a great franchise (with some shades of grey).

I thought Yi wasn’t all the ballot. that would be crazy if he was a starter from str8 write in votes! You shouldn’t have to vote by position at all, just have people vote for who they want and the top 5 vote getters are in. The coaches can fill positions with the subs.

Yao IS popular world wide, he’s OVERWHELMINGLY popular in china and houston, but popular in surrounding areas and other places where they dont have a center to call their own.

So…TD is saying he didn’t have an opportunity to make the team before?!?! Does he think Sir charles and Kmalone are coming back? Did he forget KG is in the east?

So let me get this right, if 5 Chinese Dudes made the Ballot paper in the East and 5 in the West. We’d could quite possibly have all 10 NBA AllStar Starters being Chinese? What would the German Guy say? And the little Canadian Dude? And where would you move the Guy from the Virgin Islands to?
Nov.23 at 8:04 am
Sesa says:
I believed the Canadian dude wont start because T-Mac is listed at guard this season.
Kobe and T-Mac are locked.

Fans can vote for players who arent on the ballot, so Yi probably will ending up starting. All the publicity he got over being drafted by the Bucks, you think enough Chinese people dont know about him to vote him in? He’s nearly as big as Yao over there. I’m not even American, but I’ll be p****d for you if he gets in over a Caron Butler, Pierce, Gerald Wallace, Deng, Prince, Granger, Jefferson, Lee, Bosh, etc.

If people are so worried that the chinese are gonna vote for the chinese players then why don’t they complain to the commish and have it so that only the u.s. can vote. Either that or start populating yourself.

Glad to see Timmy D get the oppertunity to start in the All star game. There has never been a more unselfish star in the history of NBA big men. Everything about Duncan is class. Just because he has a 10 inch vertical and 4 rings people hate on him. He deserves everything he has accomplished.

That canadian dude has a name. Two time MVP Steve Nash. The best shooter(Ray Allen tie) and passer in the NBA. He deserves to start just as much as Kobe or TMAC. Nash is a legend that will never die in Canada. Our nation loves their MVP.
