Steve Francis Is Not Stephon Marbury
What if I were to tell you that an aging point guard, one of the best in the League (at one point, anyway), an emotionally volatile cat, and a guy who played on a number of under-achieving squads, was recently relegated to the bench. You’d think I was talking about this guy, right? If so, you’d be wrong.
I’m talking about Steve Francis.
Unlike his former teammate Stephon Marbury, Francis is taking his benching well and making the best of his situation in Houston. From the Houston Chronicle:
“I anticipated (playing) at the beginning of the season,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to try to begin to try to anticipate anything.”
“Definitely, I’m different than I was,” Francis, 30, said. “Anybody would tell you that. Anybody who accomplished, quote-unquote, some of the things I have, who has been a good point (guard), would feel certain things. But I can’t do anything or say anything because it will reflect on them.”
That, friends, is called aging gracefully and accepting your fate.
It wouldn’t hurt a certain Knickerbocker to try it out.

Well M.K u gotta admit that things could be a lot worse for Steve Francis. Dude is still a millionaire and is getting paid to play professional ball… I’ll take that over my sh*tty 9 to 5 anytime!

Steve Francis is nowhere near stephon’s level as a point guard. He relied on his athletecism and it’s starting to fail him. So he get’s relegated to the bench. He never had a good shot. Steph does. Haters keep hating. But Francis should never be compared to steph.

Sesa says:
Chief, Steve Francis also had a good shot but I think Francis is a pure scorer while Marbury is a shooting point guard with playmaking ability.

He actually played good minutes this last game against the Suns. As i was watching, I’d get deja vu, but he was passing where he’d usually take someone off the dribble. He forced a shot or two, mainly because of the fans, but they weren’t bad shots. I think its only a matter of time before he’s the back up, Rafer will shoot himself out of minutes, Steve can’t shoot any worse, has better chemistry with Yao, and finishes on the break a lot better.

Everyone looks good shooting against the Suns. Scola looked like a damn All Star.

Not to draw any comparison, but a certain guard won back-to-back MVPs in his 30s. Isn’t he a little older than the Franchise

T Money says:
In his prime, Franchise was top ten in points and assists. But like T Mac, he played on terrible teams that didn’t go anywhere. With TMac, Franchise, Bonzi Wells and Yao on one team, they should change the name to the Houston Unrealised Expectations. Might be a bit much to fit on the jersey though.

I think Francis will fit in well with the whole rockets team. He makes the point position a lot surer and gives them a potent scorer at the position. I think the move to the bench was to bring more firepower off the bench and the fact there wouldn’t be enough shots in the starting lineup. Rock on Franchise. Haters stand down.

I can’t believe people still defend Stephon……….he’s a stat sheet filler but detracts from the overall bottom line (wins & team chemistry). I hope he goes to the Spurs…soon……….

Scola has been averaging 20 pts and shooting 67% in the last 2 games, i dont think the Suns had anything do with it, he’s just getting comfortable and stepping up in tmac’s absence

RV says:
Francis can do very well in Houston if they used him right, not superstar well, but efficient. They should go small a few minutes every game while Yao rests because Francis can still fast break like an All star.

i was gonna say.. don’t want to say he was the cause of all the other mishaps that took place in my hometown, but Francis still fully deserves this, he f*cked us over pretty good in Vancouver..

TonyG says:
he’ll fit in well..he just came into camp out of shape, which is the reason he hasn’t been playing..he looked comfortable last game when he played, just missed some shots, which is expected in your 1st game back..he’s still quick and athletic..

I admire Steve’s contribution after sitting out for so long. That time-out was inexcusable. He handled this snub with grace. Dear Haters, stop hating over the Vancouver draft and consider his accomplishments.
