Marbury to Avoid Point Guard Duties
Point Guard (def.): Typically, being quicker and shorter than even a shooting guard … a true point guard’s job is to create scoring opportunities for his team. He does this by passing and setting up plays on the court.
Stephon Marbury’s Definition: Whatever, whatever, I gots to get mines!
Translation: Starbury doesn’t own a dictionary.
That’s the only conclusion that I was able to reach today, after reading this story in the NY Post. The Knick point guard says he is going to be hoisting up even more shots this season.
“I’m looking way more for my shot this year than last year,” said Marbury. “When I’m aggressive, it just opens things up for other players as opposed to me last year, I was sitting back.”
Hmmm, I guess the enthusiam to get the rock to newly acquired teammate Zach Randolph (an astonishing black hole in his own right) has worn off.
You know, that legendary “I might average 12 dimes and 2 assists” quote from this summer is (almost) starting to kind of make sense now.

Has Steph always been crazy, and the public’s knowledge is merely a function of the increased media attention on, say, everything? Or is his crazyness a recent development?

Sam, did you study at Indiana?

white hot eboy says:
I like Sam’s suggestion. Actually, since Nate seems to have the most balls on the team, let him start at center, Steph at the 4, Curry at the 2, Zach at the point and David Lee at the point. It would be way more interesting than the current makeup.

See, it was so confusing, I put two point guards on the list.

starting nate at the point and steph at the 2? Cause steph is gonna look for his shot…and nate’s gonna….look for his shot. There’s usually a problem when every “point guard” on your team has a shoot first mentality…this team makes me sick to my stomach

good one MC…I wish…although he looked pretty shook in preseason…Knicks shoulda took a gamble on him, oh yea, i forgot Isiah’s keeping Fred Jones on the team so he doesn’t take Zeke to court for another sexual harassment case. Judging by Isiah’s giant crush on freddie, i would not be surprised

so eboy is going for the 12 dimes, 2 assists mind frame… and btw, i was with my son and wife at the mall and i saw a guy sporting the drew gooden ducktail, wish i had a cam at the time…
Nov.1 at 1:53 pm
jbn74sb says:
In the early 80s, the ducktail was a common sight on the brothers in LA, as was the jheri curl, and the pick.
My pops coached varsity at a high school where they bused in 1500 kids from the inner city, and the do’s on his players were phenomenal.

Whatever whatever, when you can handle the rock like Starbury I don’t mind him shooting. Besides he does have a sick stroke. If they give him some good screens and plays maybe we can expect some Gilbert arenas type play out of him. But he does need to get the rock to Randolph.
Nov.1 at 2:15 pm
Joel O's says:
Starbury’s jumper isn’t consistent. That’s not even his strength, he’s a far better slasher than he is a shooter. Dude. Whatever his role, PG or SG, I just want the old Starbury back, not the tentative one we’ve had since he got back to NY.

Fadi Qader says:
With Starbury shooting the ball defenses will concentrate more on him which will open things up for players like Zach Randolph…another very underrated baller. Knicks…playoffs? Not likely but close? Likely…

Bodie, my history with Steph goes back to when he was 12, at which point, at least for a 12 year old, he was definitely crazy. He’s pretty much just been maintaining that level ever since, though the media coverage of said craziness ebbs and flows.

To think this guy was once one of my favorite players.. I guess that what happens when you read SLAM as a bible - you end up believing the hype. But now older and hopefully wiser, I gotta say the artist formerly known as Starbury disgust me.. Steph have immense BBall-skills all he lacks is a brain..
