Maybe they can ask KG for a loan.

After the 7-1 KG and Ray allen trades, the Celtics quickly turned into an Eastern Conference powerhouse and contender while the T’wolves were forced to be a rebuilding team consisting of many young talents. I’m not surprised.

You’re kidding, right? Celtics are paying luxury tax for the big 3.2 and have few near future in draft choices. They are still behind: Spurs, Magic, Detroit, Jazz, Dallas, and possibly Houston (with t-mac). They have no functional center and an erratic bench. In short, best chances for Celtics and glory is in next two years (if big 3.2 stay injury free). T’Wolves has lost much of its money with KG. KG says he didn’t want to be traded. Meantime, T’Wolves have a bright future. Early round draft choices, a flourishing PF, a low payroll with Theo in his final year and ‘Toine possibility bought out of his final year in 2008/09. There is money there to acquire free agents who fill the voids the team has for 2008/09, plus draft some extra talent. I’ll rather be the GM for the T’wolves than the Celtics.

The Celtics lost to the Orlando Magic as former Celtic Bill Walton predicted. But there still 8-1 they still got a avreage of about 65 points (the big 3 KG , Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

Captain America says:
Celtics went to the wire against the Heat in the previous game and won on a last minute miss. Miami is 2-8, so much for early records. Did Walton predict that too? The fact that the big 3.2 own 65-70% of the points is not a positive. It tells you the team is seriously dependent on six feet, ankles, and knees. Are you going to put KG at the 5, given the dismal center position?

Donn says:
Captain America…i agree with you somewhat but the Celtics did this trade to be competitive now. Do the Wolves have a better future? maybe. But if you have a chance to get KG and maybe a berth in the Finals, you do it, even if you are mortgaging the future. Worry about the present now, and worry about tomorrow…um…tomorrow.

Captain America says:
Betting on team futures is similar to stock investments. People buy stock on future growth potential (future growth opportunities and funds). We know where the Celtics are (locked into) for the foreseeable future. Whereas, the T’Wolves have extra draft choices and salary cap money for free agents.

Captain America says:
The Celtics position is risk intensive. Celtic fans have very high expectations. The big 3.2 pouring in 70% of the points, any sustained injury with the big 3.2 would severely hamper the team.

Captain America says:
Then there is the void at center. KG has not played the 5 position much (if at all).

But this ain’t wall street…it’s basketball. If you can win now, you’d do it…Are they taking a risk, of course..but what choice did the Celtics have…continue to stay young and improve slowly while your fans wait impatiently or take the leap and possibly end up in the finals even if it means sacrificing the future?

We may never know what the future holds, even though you can see predict stuff like draft picks potential or salary cap flexibility. A good team take care the present as well as the future.
Nov.19 at 9:44 pm
Captain America says:
The Celtics haven’t taken care of the future. As for the present, the Celtics are also-rans. The Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Pistons, Magic, and perhaps New Orleans (with Chris Paul) are better. The present has a big hole where an able center should be and a modest bench.

Captain America says:
Meantime, Celtic fans have expectations well beyond just making the playoffs.
Nov.19 at 9:59 pm
Captain America says:
Donn, there were more choices available to the Celtics. Consider the winning Spurs franchise as an example.

Donn, so such things as salary caps, draft choices, and free agents aren’t basketball?
