Links: Gilbert and Lang’s NBA Preview (pt. 3)

In which we rank the Central Division…

by Lang Whitaker

Someone asked the other day where The Links were. Well, here they is! For real, one of those weeks back in September when I was missing in action? I was working on this NBA Preview with Gil. So…here you go.

Anyway, here’s the Central Preview. Love Gil’s reaction when I mention Amir Johnson.

its just alex says:
Lang, am I correct in assuming you and Gil ranked the Cavs first believing that Sideshow and Sasha would be coming back on time? I also like how Gil basically says the Bulls got Noah to replace Big Ben. It’s like they have a goofy hair quota they have to fill.

Holly MacKenzie says:
Damn Lang.. First Lebron in LV, then the Lakers in Hawaii and now Chilling with Gil. What I would give… Allowing Gil to do the rankings is pure gold. I love how sure of himself he is.

Holly MacKenzie says:
actually, I love how he is so sure of himself. there.. that sounds better.

I’m convinced Gil thinks he’s ranking teams in order of NBA Live efficiency.

Eric Snow over Boobie? Gil is incredible. And when did Webber get back to All-NBA status? Unreal.

Rasheedionics says:
At the end of the day… none of his predictions will come true… Well, except Pacers finishing last. Can’t argue with that.

Rasheedionics says:
Cleveland is a perfect team? How about getting a coach who doesn’t fold under pressure.

Adrian says:
Does anyone else get the impression that Gil doesn’t know who half the players he plays against are?
Gil: “Indiana got a lot of new blood”
Lang: “Not really…” Hahaha.

Adrian says:
Ok, so I didn’t quote verbatim, but still…

Oct.24 at 10:52 am

Rasheedionics says:
New blood doesn’t mean they got better. They traded for Murphy, Dunleavy and Diogu. Also added Marquis Daniels and Kareem Rush. Granger is getting better. But it seems like their 2 best players: Tinsley and O’neal are never healthy at the same time. So that’s going to be their downfall once again.

Rasheedionics says:
And did you hear about David Harrison saying that Ben Wallace is trying to kill him… According to Harrison, Wallace’s flagrant foul, in which Harrison fell to the ground hard in Saturday’s preseason game, caused him to have a bulging disk in his back. He said he’s not sure when he’ll be back in the lineup. He said Wallace also hit his shoulder, which caused him to miss a significant portion of the season, in a game last December. “I don’t know what it is, but that guy has been a problem for me for a while now. He’s a thorn that won’t go away.”

A lot of things happen at the end of Gil’s day.

Does Lang have a big head or does Gil have a really small one?

Gilbert Arenas is not all that smart. I guess he doesn’t have to be as long as he can shoot a basketball. He couldn’t even figure out who was playing center for the Pistons. Laughing at Maxiell and Amir Johnson too! Wait until both these cats make a fool of him on the court.

Oct.24 at 3:28 pm

Lang Whitaker says:
Both, dpak.

Ben Hogan says:
Maybe Im crazy, but what he said made a lot of sense to me. The way he describes Cleveland they are a perfect team in the East. Maybe not ideal, but it will work.

Balling NZ says:
Yeah whatever Sean. Piston’s fan are ya?

according to lebron, cleveland got worse. or according to ohio.com quoting lebron. also detroit is a smart team, they were pretty good in the regular season and have a very unselfish core, they are coming back determined & will take the number 1 spot again in the central. bulls would be right behind them and cavs will fall 3. i also wouldnt be surprised if bulls are on top followed by the pistons.

Oct.24 at 10:16 pm

Robbi says:
I agree.. It seems like Gil doesnt know half the roster he’s playing against… Cleveland at 1? HA!

Oct.24 at 11:44 pm

RV says:
I can tell Lang doesn’t want to tell an NBA player that he doesn’t know his basketball, but someone should, some of those predictions are rough.

TADOne says:
I guess Gil forgot about Antonio McDyess being inserted into the starting lineup for Detroit. Also, Maxiell was a beast at the end of last season and in the playoffs. But again, everyone always downplays the Pistons, and thats the way they like it. They like being under the radar. I love Lang’s reaction to Gil: “Really, Detroit #3!?” Classic stuff, Lang.

JpT says:
when you rank the teams based on last season. who played at the Finals? Cleveland and Spurs.
I think that was his case when he ranked Cleveland at 1

Oct.27 at 5:36 pm

andy says:
cleveland a perfect team? hahahahhahaha , hilarious! so gil is a comedian now? and detroit has nobody to put the ball in the basket consistantly in the five? i mean rip hamilton is so inconsistent right? and chauncey billups has never been able to hit 3 pointers right? not to mention hes talking about chris webber like hes some scoring expert. chris webber is good , but he didnt do all that much for the pistons in the playoffs. gil has no idea what hes talking about in my opinion.

Oct.29 at 12:33 pm

cbizzle says:
Sorry I’m late, but the Pistons, third in the Central? Are you serious? Then again, they weren’t supposed to win the Central last year, or the year before that… or the year before that. Gil, just worry about the Wizards buddy. Oh by the way Andy, when he said the five, he meant at Center. But I think McDyess can score a little.

Oct.30 at 8:56 pm

Julian says:
“a lot happens at the end of Gil’s day”. lmao…great line. yeah i dont think the cavs are a perfect team by any stretch of the imagination. they’ll come in third i think.

Shalin says:
you guys had a mistake in the rankings, the lakers were 42-40 last year NOT 32-50.
