Links: Gilbert and Lang’s NBA Preview (pt. 2)
In which we rank the Atlantic Division…
And it don’t stop. Yesterday we dropped Video 1 of our SLAM NBA Preview, in which Gilbert Arenas and I went through and ranked all the teams in the Southeast Division.
Today we’re going to check out the Atlantic Division. Gil and I were completely in sync on this Division, and I managed to get him to explain how they’ll guard (or try to guard) Kevin Garnett this season.

Lang’s reaction to Jamal Magloire’s signing is priceless. Bag-knee-anee!!! Lang hate’s foreigners!!!! “TJ Ford can’t shoot”!!! I like Gil’s take on Nash’s MVP awards. “Give Philly last for trying”. Oh man, I’m fuc*in’ cryin!!!! Lang, this sh*t is SLAMOnline platinum.

NJ, Boston then Toronto, with NY as the wild card…the Atlantic should certainly be interesting this season.

I’m on the verge of getting a Agent Zero jersey. The dude is priceless. Or at least an edition of the new shoe.

It sucks that social classes are so different between celebs and regular people because I bet some of these people would be cool to hang out with, but they always have to be on guard for people trying to rip them off.

Have you thought about makin a DVD of these ITWs?

Lang’s hair looks like Calvin (& Hobbes). And I love how Gil put KG not wanting to shoot as him “want[ing] to pass”. “What does this team remind you off?………………………”to me?”-”yeah”-”a soccer team..?”-”No”

Lang, your and Gil’s prediction for Atlantic Division mirrors current pre-season standings. You guys don’t do much research, do you?

Lang, just wait until you start pronouncing NBA China names … he-he. Always a good question: Is Phoenix better (3 all stars) because of Nash or is Nash an MVP because of the two other all stars?

Cheryl says:
The only issue I have with you guys’ predictions for the Atlantic is New Jersey. I like that team on paper, but I think they may be in trouble if Kidd’s back gives him problems. Right now, it’s being discussed as minor, but that’s a condition that’s so unpredictable. And at this stage in his career, a bad back could really cause him to struggle. It bears watching. That said, I’d switch Toronto and the Nets. The Raps are gonna be fun to watch. I wonder if Gil would consider coaching after his playing days are done. I bet he’d make a decent one.

Lang Whitaker says:
I learned a lesson with my hair that day — never get a haircut, wear a hat all day and then spend the afternoon being videotaped.
And I’m glad you guys are enjoying these clips. I’ve still got at least four more to go, and perhaps some bonus footage along the way.
Oct.23 at 11:40 am
Lang Whitaker says:
Cheryl, I agree that the Nets could be in trouble if Kidd’s back goes out…but I also think the Celts would be in trouble if KG’s back went out. At this point, making these predictions, you kind of have to assume the best.

good stuff, its worth watching because you know he’ll tell you what he’s really thinking…can’t wait to hear the southwest preview

Lang… great post… slapnuts

Rasheedionics says:
Even if Kidd stays healthy, Nets still have the softest frontline in NBA. Jamaal Magloire? Oh please. Should’ve kept Moore. Vince Carter got big money, motivation goes down. Darrell Armstrong will end up playing more minutes than he would like. I agree with Cheryl 100%. Nets finish 3rd or may be even 4th if Knicks end up being for real.

So Toronto is Phoenix East? I guess I can see that other than the Raptors DON’T have Nash!

RV says:
Rumor is the grizz are looking to trade Damon Stoudamire, Boston should look into that, Posey is the most likely trade bait there…
Oct.23 at 12:12 pm
Cheryl says:
Damon may be a good fit, RV, but giving up Posey would be a big mistake for the intangibles that he brings. Although, he looked real tentative in the two games I saw the Celts play. But, it’s only preseason, right?
Oct.23 at 12:14 pm
white hot eboy says:
Posey’s not moving.
Oct.23 at 12:45 pm
Rasheedionics says:
Posey back to Memphis? Not happening. Celtics don’t need shoot-first, pass-second point guard.
Oct.23 at 12:51 pm
John says:
Damon Stoudemire is kinda inconsistent and inconsistent is the least these Celts need with all their rookies.
Oct.23 at 12:52 pm
John says:
Plus their point guard(!) Rondo isn’t the ballplayer you lean on in the 4th quarter.
Oct.23 at 12:58 pm
RV says:
I don’t think it’ll happen either, but they don’t exactly need a pass first pg, the offense will start and revolve around the big three and when it gets kicked out they need someone who can step up and hit a J.
Oct.23 at 1:06 pm
RV says:
But, like Gilbert said in the video, thats when KG is looking to pass so you need someone who won’t hesitate to pull up for the jumper, Damon isn’t ideal, but he’s got more experience and won’t shy away
Oct.23 at 1:21 pm
Cheryl says:
Neither will Eddie House, RV. I think the Celts need to see what they have for the first 3 months of the season, see if they can get the 1st squad and the back-ups to gel, and then maybe make a move before the Feb. deadline. There’s such a thing as too much tinkering.

I also think that Lang just got a big red stamp on his forehead that says: “Ignorant American Who Hates Foreigners”. I hope they’ll never let you enter a soccer stadium again.

Oct.23 at 6:14 pm
Gerard Himself says:
Lang: not that you look fat, but you don’t look skinny either. I’m not gonna call you Lang Lohan. You’re average. I say: average is good. I base my life around the word average.
Enough about appearances.

Lang, since you’ve gotten to know gilbert, if a complete stranger showed up in front of his house in paintball gear/gun, would gilbert A)go get his gear/gun, B) call the cops/security, or C)escape through his vents

Dark says:
The Magloire pickup is real good for the Nets - Kristic isn’t much of a big at all, even when he is healthy. He hits open jumpers, and that’s about it. Any team with JKidd has a chance to do damage; he’s the ephiphany of a player who makes those around him seem way better than they actually are (see Martin, Kenyon and now Moore, Mikki). Damn I wish the Knicks had him.
Oct.24 at 2:40 pm
Gerard Himself says:
Krstic is more than just a jumpshooter. If you don’t know that, you haven’t seen him play. Before he got injured he had some pretty sweet moves around the basket too.
Oct.25 at 4:47 am
Dark says:
*I meant epitome, not ephiphany above. I know some english.
Oct.25 at 4:53 am
Dark says:
Gerard, point taken. It’s true that I haven’t really seen much of Kristic; I’m just going off of what I saw during the Nets Heat series in 06 - all I remembered was him hitting the open J, and JKidd and VC both outrebounding him. We’ll see what Kristic can do this year though.
