Kevin Garnett Is Good

I have a sneaking suspicion this isn’t the last time KG and double-double are going to be found in the same sentence this season.

Overrated. Not a go to go guy. Great stat filler and complimentary player. But fadeaway 18 footers do not win a title.

Bodie, didn’t you just write in the Celtics preview that they should come out of the East?

Oct.8 at 2:54 pm

jbn74sb says:
Yes. Because he has others to score during crunchtime. Garnett is an overgrown Pippen, minus the bad attitude and poor tipping.

And six rings.

I think Bodie is under the influence of something today, possibly Isiah

Garnett is an overgrown Pippen? What’s Russell? a too short Chamberlain?

Oct.8 at 3:10 pm

jbn74sb says:
rory - No. Russell could not score like Chamberlin. Pun intended.
Izzo - You can’t give the ball to Garnett with 4 minutes left in a tie game and expect him to score or create. He spins six times and throws up 18 foot fadeaways. That’s his move. But I love the guy’s D and rebounding. Similar to Pippen, he is a great complimentary player.

I don’t know if 20, 10 & 5 are exactly “complimentary”.

H to the izzo says:
What role players average 27 15 and 5 Bodie?

Oct.8 at 3:15 pm

H to the izzo says:
And Myles got there before me.

jbn74sb says:
Who the hell averaged 27, 15, and 5? When?
Luke Walton is a role player. Garnett is a complimentary player.

Bodie, have you forgetten Garnett’s assault of Chris Webber during his WCF run and the gamewinners he hit during that run? I think you are.

jbn74sb says:
Was that the same year the Lakers sent him packing? Followed shortly thereafter by Garnett not making the playoffs? One year or one series does not a superstar or go-to-guy make. Ask Dirk.
And for the record, I’d take Garnett over Dirk in a hearbeat.

ForzaMilan says:
Basketball is not all about scoring. You know this. Therefore, scoring is not what differentiates a superstar from a complimentary player. Media emphasis on scoring got Morrison ROY votes when he was horrifyingly bad. Emphasis on scoring got David West a fat new contract, even though he actually had a down year. Over-emphasis i mean.

Permaculture (akaJustMe) says:
Forza: that can’t be repeated enough. While I love scoring (it creates heroes in 4th quarter), teams/teammates that play together win, sometimes impercetibly with decision making and unselfishness, rather than heroics. What’s worse than playing with someone who doesn’t pass or hustle on defense?

jbn74sb 2002-2003:
27 points per game, 15.7 rebounds per game, 5.2 assists per game, 1.3 steals per game, 2.3 blocks per game That’s Kevin Garnett’s “complimentary” stats. Also, Bill Russel couldn’t hit a game winning shot if his life depended on it. Does that make him horribly bad?

Russ Bengtson says:
It’s “complementary,” ya bunch of over-degreed morons.

Oct.9 at 3:21 am

Russ Bengtson says:
And while I agree that KG needs a second All-Star to win it all (and now he has two!), I wouldn’t go so far as to call him a complementary player. Dude did EVERYTHING in Minnesota–score, rebound, defend, initiate the offense. And he’s 7-1, no matter what he says. Name 10 players you’d rather have than KG. Bet you can’t.

jbn74sb says:
Nice work Jukia. I’m sure the Bush administration has a job for you with your ability to make up stats.
Garnett’s highest scoring average was in 03-04, at 24.2.
Highest rebounding was also 03-04, at 13.9.
In other words, he has never averaged 27 OR 15, let alone averaged both in the same season.
My point was and is that you cannot give Garnett the ball in the last 4 minutes of a tight game and expect him to deliver. He shoots fadeaway 18 footers from the baseline. He does not draw contact.
As a result, I would not want him as a go to guy, but would absolutely love him provided that I had a lead guy to give the ball to in such a scenario.
Again, he is an overgrown Pippen, minus the bad attitude, poor tipping, and as eboy pointed out, the 6 rings.

Thank for the truth jbn74sb. Fadeaways are lame at 7′. KG checks out in clutchtime. NBA’s Warren Sapp w/o bling. He get his, only to get his. T-wolves needed a big time 5; KG didn’t want to play 5 why not… the banging! People confuse his greed with passion. In my opinion.
