David Stern: Nearly Everyone Broke the Rules
The Commish came out yesterday and admitted that more than half of all the refs employed by the Association broke its gambling rules. Stern then said the rules were outdated, and that he’s about to change them anyway.
Under the new rules, refs will be allowed to do things like go to the casino during the offseason; they just won’t be able to visit the sports book.

Unless there is a huge fan downturn in ratings and attendance, this really didn’t do anything to the sanctity of the game. I guess we’ll know sooner than later.

Will refs be allowed to have merchandise from certain teams in their homes? This could mean they’re biased. Will the ref’s children be allowed to favor one team above the others? This could also mean they’re biased. Will refs be forced to keep a diary of there whereabouts? Or… could Stern perhaps treat refs be like common’ grown up people who don’t have to act like they’re in kindergarten and still need a hand to wipe their a$$es…

what happened to all the talk last year when he HAD to bench the two suns players for leaving the bench, because the rules are there and you have to enforce them. Now, since the refs broke the rules, and they are now outdated he can just change them without any punishment?

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Hi!. Anybody who has noticed my comments knows I’m not a Suns fan, and I staunchly supported Amare and Diaw being suspended. However, the rationale then was that they broke the rules and the rules must be enforced. YOu can’t use that rationale then and then change things up now. That’s wrong. I understand the situation is different, I understand that Stern is much more worried about fighting than gambling because of the perception of his league among many fans. But, when he made his decision he used the “letter of the law” excuse and now he’s not doing that. It’s wrong.

Imagine Stern as a highschoolteacher (which, in fact he resembles a lot). He’d be hated for all his heavy punishments and belittling of NBA players, and now that he starts to get inconsequent, as Hi! and AllenP rightfully pointed out, he’d be outta that school in no-time…

David Stern is commissioning on borrowed time as far as I’m concerned.

Indeed, but if that means the beginning of the Stu Jackson era, then I quit too.

Yeah, that would be worse. They should just name Isiah Thomas commissioner now and get it over with.

Dress codes suspensions because of the letter of the law! Stern the NBA’s own President Bush about the mighty dollar international not local. Changes rules to avoid the big scandal he’s hiding ALL refs making side bets on the multi million dollar diva’a cuz they’re not making a fraction of what the players get. If the majority of the League was foreign or white would Stern be as tough on forcing numbers down locally (USA) so he can become an international Monster he yearns to be!
