Allan Houston in NY Again?

by Marcel Mutoni

Today being a painfully slow news day, I elected not to go with the depressing Scottie Pippen news as the top post, and instead decided to focus on a (slightly) less embarrassing comeback story: Allan Houston’s.

According to his agent, Bill Strickland, Allan Houston would prefer to return to the Big Apple in his comeback attempt. The man with the ultra-pretty jumpshot has been working out for a bunch of teams lately (most notably the Nets and the Knicks), but if he had his choice, he’d be re-joining Isiah’s band of misfits come November.

But his agent suggested the shooting guard might prefer to return to the Knicks. Houston has also worked out at the Knicks’ facility in Greenburgh several times recently, according to the agent, Bill Strickland.

Although Houston is also weighing the Nets’ offer to attend camp, Strickland emphasized that they don’t necessarily hold an advantage just because they seemingly offer a perk that the Knicks don’t - a chance to win.

I love that the chance to win isn’t particularly important to Houston’s agent. What is important, naturally, is money: As each and every fan of the team knows all too well, the Knickerbockers once signed Allan to a $100 million contract, which remains one of the most absurd things to ever happen in League history.

soft, soft, soft.
And he needs the money? What am I missing here?
To be fair, i suppose there is some team out there that can use a shooter.

This is completely unrelated, but if you check nba.com they’re running a photo of KG, ray allen and paul pierce wearing each other’s jersys. They stole your idea(ish 57)!!! Except with slightly more talented players

I’m convinced that the Knicks are purposefully trying to sabotage their own attendance. Tax writeoff?

This is almost as uninspiring as the news of Jay-Z dropping another album. There should be a designated day where everyone stuck in 2001 joins the rest of us in 2007.

arthur: SLIGHTLY more talented players? understatement maybe?

How many players do the Knicks have under guarenteed contract!? It’s seriously getting close to 20

Houston still has it… I love it if he comes backs, no only because of the inspirational thrill but also he still is a mid and far range threat. Give this guy a break! It takes a lot of heart to come back..

Russ Bengtson says:
I’d like to see him sign with the Rockets just so they could have someone with “HOUSTON” on the front AND back of his jersey.

What’s Byron Houston up to these days? *Googles* Whoops, jail, apparently. Well, he’s out.

Upside: Houston’s veteran presence in the locker room Downside: How can the Knicks have no roster room for Demetris Nichols and his Tremendous Upside Potential but have room for Allan Houston’s 50 year old knees…. Can we make Houston a player/coach that doesn’t take up a roster spot? What’s the rule for that?

Maybe the Heat will take another look since the Bucks matched the offer on Bell.

eboy, will the heat sign mutombo either? in their attemp to become the oldest team in pro sports history?

Kevin Wilson says:
Hmmm….maybe the Knicks are trying to lose, causing home crowds to dwindle so much they can invoke a clause and move the team to Vancouver, sort of like “Major League.” Or they just suck.

wait so winning is not a factor in this come back? wasn’t 100 mil enough money? this is like “well i have everything set up in the tri-state so i don’t want to move, but now i’m out of money. hmm… wait i know, i should go rob the knicks again!”
this whole thing is making me love Penny. at least he really is trying to come back to ball. either that or just to “shock people”.

Russ Bengtson says:
Well, if he does come back to the Knicks, he’ll have to buy his number back from Jared Jeffries. And Kelvin Cato’s got his old locker.

I wouldnt even waist my energy to send H20 a email about coming to camp. Not like this is Jordan coming back to the Wizards or anything. He’s gonna be a bum! Yes, if hes open he’ll hit a 3 or two, but so would my mom and she’s almost 60! Bad decision for the organizations to even have interests, and for H20 to think that those old legs still have it. Allen just buy NBA 2K8 on Oct 2 for XBOX 360 like me!!!

Dyce says:
I always loved Houston’s talent…But the way he played the game was terrible….He would have 20 and you wouldn’t even notice he scored…Invisible in crunch…..But hey he has to be an upgade over I get paid to shoot 20 percent from 3 Quentin richardson.

T. Dowey says:
DEFENSIVE LIABILITY — BAD KNEES — OLD — “but he can still shoot from his motorized rascal” Isiah says “sign ‘em. I own this world b**ch.”

Bryce says:
If Allan Houston can come back Rod Strickland can definitely come back…Where are you Rod?

Sep.20 at 11:48 pm

truthismygame says:
Dyce: i agree with the first part of what you said, but i actually like Quentin Richardson’s game.. might be a step slower after his injuries, but he’s not thaaat terrible.

Sep.21 at 12:11 am

Dyce says:
Ok maybe not that terrible, I just dont like 6′6 athletic guards who play “vince carterish” settling for jumpshots all over the court.

Sep.21 at 1:35 am

rob stewart says:
Steve Kerr and John Paxson were absolutely worthless except for the fact they could hit wide open 3’s. H20 can do the same thing except he’s 4-5 inches taller. He certanly can still help a team out, even in the 4th quarter.

Sep.21 at 2:47 am

Dyce says:
You can’t be serious, Paxson and Kerr played with MICHAEL JORDAN….Who do the knicks have that commands a double team? Signing him is a typical knick move, an overpaid over the hill player…he averages 15 he probably can get another max contract

Sep.21 at 7:19 am

Payne-o says:
Curry and Randolph both have the moves to command double coverage, and if/when they’re both on the court, guards are gonna have to come double, leaving Houston open. In theory this sounds great…… but so did teaming Grant Hill with T-Mac, drafting Bowie over Jordan, paying Kirilenko God knows how much, etc, etc.

I’m sorry but I’ve been a die hard knicks fan since I can remember being alive, but I think I might have to cash out. I can’t stand this team anymore. I hate Isiah, I hate James Dolan, I hate how fu(kin dilusional the players on the team are. I spent a lot of time this week watching marbury interview videos on YouTube, and while I thought it was hilarious, I feel the hangover now and cannot stand that looney toon. I missed them when they sucked and got no attention. Now that they suck and get more attention than almost any team in the league, I hate it and I’m really starting to hate them. We honestly need a resolution. I can’t take too much more of this. I don’t even need for them to win, just not to have this crappy roster with Isiah and Dolan. God bless Marbury for his charity work, but I can’t take any more of him, or Quentin Richardson, or Jerome James, or Nate Robinson, or Eddy Curry’s soft self. Can’t wait to throw Zach Randolph into the list of people I hate…

Jordi Scrubbings says:
The only I will accept Houston on the Knicks is if Isiah leaves. Then all I have to do is count down the days until Houston’s contract ends and then I can watch the Knicks again.

kason says:
Houston dont go to the knicks cuse thay will trade you thay just wont you for ticket sales. and you will not get no playing time so go an play for the nets were you will get playing time with kidd and vc that is better for you and your famliy.

H2O BABY! He will bring back the magic and inspiration in the Garden. You all dont recognize the impact Allan has had on the knicks organization. He sent us to finals back in 1999. He led us through those deep play off runs. And I dont want to hear any more haters. The man is a Garden Legend, after big shot to big shot. If you are a true knicks fan, then you won’t hate on a true knicks legend.

I heard there was a Spree sighting in NYC, I bet he was teaching Isiah Thomas how to “Choke a bitch”

Levon J. says:
Be for real. If I was a Knick fan, I would hate to see H20 back in NYC. He’s the primary reason why the Knicks are still in a rebuilding stage. Remember they paid Houston that Shaq Oneil contract type money back in the late 90’s.
