I understand Michael Redd taking the extra $30 million and year on his deal (despite the fact that it would have more or less evened out by the end). I also understand his wanting to be the man and have his own team. But, um, wouldn’t he have had a MUCH better chance at a title playing with LeBron James? Michael Redd’s a great talent and all, but is he really a number-one option for a championship team? I don’t think so.

We’re just looking at numbers here. I don’t think any of us here really comprehends how much pulling power how much an EXTRA 30 Million can have when you’ve grown up poor. Even if you’ve grown up not rich. In the end, these players only owe us effort until they collapse, not titles. It would have been a mistake for Redd if he had given up the chance at that money. It’s mostly only the fans who want to see people take huge money sacrifices so we can fulfill the “what-ifs” in our heads.
