Someone Is Going to Solve the Eazy Yi Problem By Himself

by Marcel Mutoni

Since the Milwaukee Bucks and Yi Jianlian’s handlers haven’t been able to come to a peaceful resolution, Li Yuanwei, chief of the Chinese Basketball Association, is taking matters into his own hands:

“I will go to the United States in the coming days to help Yi solve the problem,” Li told China Daily. “I will have a talk with Yi at the Stankovic Cup to see what he thinks.

“The Bucks side didn’t send their officials to China this time as they promised, so I will take some time to get this resolved.”

I like this guy.

If Li can get this resolved, he has to be considered the front-runner for the next ‘Chinese Ambassador to the U.S.’ position, right?

The only problem is that Yi hasn’t signed a contract with the team that drafted him. This isn’t rocket (or is that Rocket?) science.

The choice is easy for Yi. You play for the Bucks and get ready to be beheaded back home; You play for bigger-market teams, you and 90% of your salary will be accepted with open hands back home.

Screw Yi.

Mo Charlo says:
Yi Ginandjuice should just defect. What would be the harm in that? Furthermore, this guy is not worth it. He had that one quarter in the summer league, hit that one game winner (which if examined carefully, I don’t think was meant to be a bank shot), and got straight posterized by Rudy Bleep.

Li is trying to take the Stern Robot’s job. This is nothing but a ploy to make his way to the U.S. He wants a job in the league offices, what better way to infiltrate.

Ahh, the new world order, unfolding before our eyes on the NBA stage. Well it’s not THAT new a situation, Glenn Robinson holding out for 100 mil., Stevie Franchise damn near crying because he got picked by Vancouver etc. etc. This ones just fascinating because it’s got world war 3 potential, what the hell difference does it make where you play Yi? You ain’t that good and Yao’s the premier player from your country. Get lost already (that is, until you start averaging 22-13-5-4)

Mo Charlo says:
Furthermore, Yi got abused by Wang Zhi Zhi in the Chinese Basketball League finals. Wang Zhi Zhi is no good, therefore Yi is less than no good. After Yao, who has put up numbers, but underproduced, there really is no reason to care about Chinese Basketball. Except, of course, because China might end up ruling the world this century.

Anyone out there who knows the rules about rookie contracts? Does Yi have to sign for the full 5 year rookie deal, or can he sign a one or two year deal and then become a restricted free agent? If so, maybe a short term contract can be arranged. If he blows up, then Milwaukee can ink him long term as he is restricted. If he does happen to turn into elite young player, then there can be no realistic complaints about playing for the Bucks. If he’s a bust, then the Bucks can cut ties with him. It’s the ultimate show and prove scenario.

Aug.1 at 4:26 pm

Lang Whitaker says:
No, he has to sign that deal.
