Ben Collins says:
If Steve Nash isn’t Top 5, you haven’t watched a basketball game in three years.

Aug.2 at 2:00 pm

Billy Blanks says:
Wow, I didn’t realize winning two consecutive MVPs and almost a third qualifies you for only TOP 15 in the league!!!

Aug.2 at 2:46 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
I hate the idea of ranking players. How the f*ck do you compare Steve Nash and Kevin Garnett or Kobe or Shaq? F*cking preposterous. ANY team in the NBA would take Steve Nash. Period. (OK, maybe not the Nets, but still.) Isn’t that enough?

Aug.2 at 2:47 pm

Jesus Shuttlesworth says:
steve is not top 5. tim duncan, kg, kobe, lebron, dirk maybe, jason kidd(should have been mvp) dwade. steve would definitely win offensive p.o.y. if such an award existed

Aug.2 at 2:47 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
And it seems, to me, that people are quick to overvalue freakish athleticism and undervalue the ability to play the damn game.

Aug.2 at 2:48 pm

Ryan says:
The only thing holding Nash back is defense. Offensively, he can score as well as anyone else in the league and pass better than all of them. Absolutely top 5

Aug.2 at 2:54 pm

Max Airington says:
Russ, it is ultimately silly to compare players at different positions, but isnt that the point of rankings? At least responsible ones. To try and make a legitimate argument for such difficult distinctions? And placing a premium on attributes i.e. actual f’in basketball skills *coughShawnMarioncough*, is an aspect of that. No?

Aug.2 at 2:57 pm

Max Airington says:
And Nash is no higher than top 10…

Aug.2 at 3:00 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
OK, fine. Who’s a better composer, John Lennon or Mozart? QUICK!

Aug.2 at 3:08 pm

Max Airington says:
Mozart? Who’s a better actress, Judi Dench or Jenna Jameson?

Aug.2 at 3:10 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
All I’m trying to say is that rankings suck. Sure, Tracy McGrady is on some level “better” than Steve Nash. He’s also never gotten out of the first round of the playoffs. F*ck rankings. (And Jenna, of course. She’s like Anna Nicole Smith with chops. Um, and alive. And somewhat attractive. Sort of.)

Aug.2 at 3:17 pm

Max Airington says:
Yes, they’re pointless. But this is America, we rank things, sports or not. It’s fun, as long as it’s executed within a realistic framework. And have you seen Jenna lately? Ew.

Aug.2 at 3:23 pm

H to the izzo says:
Yeah,Jenna weighs less than one of Paris Hilton’s stupid little dogs now

Aug.2 at 3:29 pm

Jesus Shuttlesworth says:
jackie manuel sounds familar

Aug.2 at 3:30 pm

Jesus Shuttlesworth says:
o and steve only plays HALF the game of basketball. jason kidd is WAY better than steve at everything except shooting 3s of course

Aug.2 at 3:58 pm

Hersey says:
Rankings are about as useful as trade rumors. Nash is a great player and one of the few in the league who can control a game.

Aug.2 at 4:16 pm

white hot eboy says:
Jesus, good point. I would take the Kidd too, for one game.

Aug.2 at 4:45 pm

dblizzy! says:
I’d put Nash right outside the top 10. To me he’s just too overhyped. no one ever went this crazy over Stockton and to me, in his prime, he was a better all around point than Nash.

Aug.2 at 4:53 pm

Reggie Evans says:
Nash knows how to dominate the ball.

Aug.2 at 6:37 pm

isaiah thomas says:
” if Nash was black! he’d be just another player.”

Aug.2 at 6:45 pm

Toby Bailey says:
Steve Nash is probably just smarter than a lot of those idiots he plays with/against. He just adapted the Suns style of play to his own (though they were similar already), and it was best for the team. You dont see him doing all that stuff in, say, Atlanta, do you? He would still be very effective, but you could cancel some of those 18 pts 18 ast in a game stats. And you could probably cancel those playoff games he usually plays in. The city of Atlanta doesn’t like playoffs in any professional sport I dont believe.

Aug.2 at 6:50 pm

Slick Nick Da Ruler says:
Stockton is definitely better than Nash and Kidd. He made everyone better. All time leader in assists and steals.

Aug.2 at 7:05 pm

Daniel says:
lol stockton is probably the best point man to ever play the game the only question is ths rings but he woulda had plenty if it wasn’t for that Jordan guy. Point, comparing Nash to Stockton is useless because Stockton was consistently great over his entire career and Nash has only come on in the last little bit. Besides were talking current players yes?

Aug.2 at 7:26 pm

DP says:
Nash is the best pg in the L right now but he is barely holding that title with Mr. Stock up(Deron Williams)right behind him in the race. I would rank Nash in the top 10 but not in the top 5. He is getting too old for me to rank him at the top. My top five right now would be: Kobe, Lebron, Duncan, Wade, and I don’t care what yall say Melo is good enough for top five. play wit it.

Aug.2 at 8:00 pm

Homie says:
The only thing Melo is top 5 in is lip gloss consumption.

Aug.3 at 12:01 am

john says:
you already know kobe is #1 on the list, so dont try.

Aug.3 at 2:10 am

Jukai says:
This is riduclous. It would be a good question to ask if he’s number one, but top five? It’s him, Dirk, Kobe, Wade and Lebron easy as top five, with Duncan barely missing out only because his team cheated to win their fourth NBA championship. As for comparing him to the top point guards of all time… I think Nash right now is as GOOD as Stockton but Stockton was great for his entire career, making Stockton a much better player.
And what idiot said Stockton was the best point guard of all time… Does he not remember someone called Earvin “Magic” Johnson? And don’t give me this BS that he wasn’t a point guard, his eleven assists per game leads the NBA.

Aug.3 at 8:55 am

Keith says:
Excellent points Jukai.
Someone at ESPN.com (dirty word) once wrote ‘that if a player is judged upon how good he makes his teammates, Steve Nash would be a superstar’. But then by that logic it would make Kobe a horrible player. DP - stop saying ‘play with it’. I’ll play with it if I so choose.

Aug.3 at 9:58 am

ray says:
Steve Nash is Mark Price of today. These weak “cant touch him” rules of today are a joke. Let Steve and Kobe face the hand checks and body blows of the 80’s. The Bad Boys would eat both of them alive. No hand checks and zones make for inflated stats and steve nash. This is the live ball era for basketball. Thanks David Stern for ruing the game we all love with this watered done version of basketball. I’d take John Stockton over Nash anyday. At least he played defense.

Aug.3 at 10:31 am

dblizzy! says:
Daniel, we are talking about current players. My point was just that I think people overhype his greatness that’s all. I was saying while Stockton was just as good a player, he never would have been considered top ten when he was playing. But it’s a different league now so I guess it doesn’t matter. Play wit it…

Aug.3 at 10:58 am

Allenp says:
HOw can you be top five if you totally suck on defense? Nash isn’t just passable, he sucks. And Kidd impacts the game in way more areas than Nash, plus he’s had more team success in his career with less talent. Think about the players he’s played with and how often he took those said players to the playoffs? And he’s still killing at 35!

Aug.3 at 1:00 pm

Heri says:
Ok, Nash doesn’t play defense, so what? That won’t take away from him he’s one of the most, if not the most, clever basketball player on a court in the L. There’s an analogy between Stock-Nash and Duncan-Barkley. Stock and Tim are more effective, but Steve and Chuck are way more charismatic and exciting to watch.

Aug.3 at 1:32 pm

Jukai says:
Ray, that’s a dumb point. The players of the 80s were also slower and more flat footed. Kobe and Nash would run circles around them.
