LeBron Is a Business, Man

by Marcel Mutoni

He’s not a businessman, he’s a business, man. No, really.

You know you’re big-time when at the tender age of 22, the company you founded with some high school buddies is signing up another pro athlete. LeBron James’s LRMR Marketing has signed Ted Ginn Jr., a rookie wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, to a marketing contract.

“To do this, not so much for money but to maybe get on a Sprite commercial with LeBron or anything, that’d be fun,” Ginn said.

“A lot of football guys don’t get a lot of marketing their first couple years coming out,” he said. “You’ve got to do big things to do that. He’s been a good friend to me for the last four or five years, so the best thing for me is get involved with someone I know.”

Once again, LeBron James is changing the game. What you know ’bout that, Marbury?!

Lebron better hope lil’ Ginn catches more than 25 balls this year. NO ONE is high on him in training camp down here. Every comment is the same, “super quick, decent hands, doesn’t want to take a hit.” Maybe he can play the new Thirst.

Who cares about what the scouts say about a wide receiver when his quarterback is one more hard hit away from being legally brain dead? Maybe I’m wrong, but it’s just not the best time to be a WR in Miamai. With that said, it doesn’t matter that much what this guy does on the field. LeBron signed him to a marketing contract, not to his fantasy team. All he has to do is show a little personality.

Jake, little is the key word. Who would give a sh*t about any receiver that plays for a team who may win 5 games this year and may not produce in a season at a high level. And I’m a Dolphins fan. That would be like giving Jason Collins a Nike shoe deal. Who’d buy ‘em?

Eboy, as someone who watched my alma mater’s defense completely shut down his overhyped @ss everytime we played them, I’m happy to echo your thoughts on Ginn. Sorry your ‘Fins are stuck with him. The irony of this: LeBron would almost undoubtedly have made a better NFL receiver than Ginn will.

Apparently Marbury tried to sign JaMarcus Russell to a Shoe contract worth $14.98, but that didn’t go so well…

white hot eboy says:
Blue, that’s real good. Ryan, I picture Lebron as the greatest tight-end in NFL history. The destructive power of Mark Bavaro, the hands of Tony Gonzalez, the athleticism of Kellen Winslow(not the soft UM one, either).

dblizzy, it took me a while, lol.

I’ve probably written this before, but one of the long time established hs football recruiting “gurus” said that LeBron was one of the 10 best WR prospects he’d seen in 20 years. Scary.

White Hot pictures Lebron as the greatest tight end. Mondays are rough for you homie.

Slick Nick, can I view you as the greatest ass? ;)

Ginn is probably going to catch at LEAST 7 balls this year so I see where LeBron is going with this. play wit it.

Did LeBron’s buddies go to college? Someone had to go to college to run a business, right?

Any of the top NBA swingmen would absolutely dominate the NFL at the wide receiver position. And I still want a team to sign someone like Jonathan Ogden to pound on Shaq.

white hot eboy says:
Bodi, you’re going there again. If we’re going that route, I’d like to see Kobitch try to catch a pass across the middle against the Ravens and have his back broke by Ray Lewis. Who better than a former murder suspect to pull that off?

Aug.6 at 2:10 pm

jbn74sb says:
eboy - I’m not even going to touch how you managed to work Brokeback into your comment. I know South Beach tends to hit from that side of the plate, but…

white hot eboy says:
Bodie, forward or backward, Mamba is still a disliked bitch. Or can’t you quit him?

Aug.6 at 2:22 pm

Ryan Jones says:
Gerard: No.

Aug.6 at 2:23 pm

Ryan Jones says:
And Bodie, I have gotta agree with eboy: Most NBA swingman have the athleticism to be great NFL receivers, but how many of them want to get hit like that?

Aug.6 at 2:28 pm

white hot eboy says:
Thanks Ryan, twice in one day, something is going on in the world that is unexplainable. Bodie, far be it from me to walk away unscathed. D-Wade moves like Barry Sanders, but one of two things would happen if he played football. He’d either have to be red-shirted to receive no-contact or have a standby wheelchair when he took his first big hit. Is that fair enough?

jbn74sb says:
It’s pretty rare to see the elite wide receivers get lit up. 5 times a season maybe? Keep in mind that the NBA guys would put 20 pounds of muscle on pretty easily just by not having to do all of the cardio they do for the NBA, and that’s before they go on the Merriman program.

Aug.6 at 3:10 pm

white hot eboy says:
Bodi, not 15 lbs of muscle?

Aug.6 at 5:31 pm

dblizzy! says:
Yeah, muscle around here only gets added in 15lb incriments.

Aug.6 at 5:46 pm

jbn74sb says:
Right, but we are assuming these players would be NFL players. Hence, 20 pound increments.

Anthony Verna says:
Why is everyone jumping on Starbury? Sure, he’s not in the top of the NBA, but he’s selling shoes that cost $5 to make to people at a reasonable price. Compare that to one of the other shoes, that cost $100 in the store, but about $5 to make.

For all the talk about Lebron being overhyped I bet every NBA fan would love to have him play for their teams. I mean he’s done what very few high school to pro or college to pro players have done in their whole careers and thats at least make it to a finals. They lost to a great TEAM in San Antonio. He’s still very young.

Dman says:
that a big thing for him
