Did Skip Shank Someone?
Former playground legend Rafer “Skip to my Lou” Alston is taking great advantage of his shot at The Show. And by that, I mean he’s totally screwing it up: Skip was arrested yesterday on charges that he stabbed someone at a club in NYC. It’s the second time in three weeks that he’s been in trouble with the law. From the NY Post (via: FanHouse):
The trouble began when a member of Alston’s entourage got into an argument with a 41-year-old man. The fight escalated into a brawl, and at one point Alston slashed the man, sources said.
He was arrested Aug. 5 for allegedly shaking a parking attendant and spitting in his face during a drunken rage after his car was towed.
Yikes!
Get it together, Rafer. Innocent or not, getting booked for shanking dudes is definitely not a good look.

Do your thing, Rafer. I’ve been around grimey, shank-prone individuals for over 15 years. If you don’t do anything to warrant getting shanked, then you don’t get shanked. Simple as that.

The timing of this story is peculiar for me, because my flatmate’s brother just died of a stab wound a coupla days ago. The reaction of EVERYONE, including the sister of the deceased: “Who gets stabbed in Montreal?” Strange.

Seems odd to me that all of a sudden this summer Skip’d turn to a life of crime, but I suppose stranger things have happened? For now, though, I’m on Skip’s side. Still, STAY HOME for a while, sheesh.

I think people are missing one point here (or maybe 2 points). Skip has been arrested twice for shanking people. Once two days ago, and once on Aug 5. Being wrongfully accused once I can buy, but twice in a month? Unless it was the same cop who arrested him, I doubt it. And unless it is in self defense, nobody deserves shanking. Living here in Denver, I have seen too many people I respect killed or hurt in the last two years because some dumb ass thinks he needs to defend his honor.

Did he really do this? That NY paper report and what came out on ESPN are two totally different things. Interesting…but for real, Skippy needs to chill, get in the gym and make sure that Steve don’t come back to town and put him on the bench. Incidents like these, especially back-to-back, make the decision easy for a coach or GM.

Being a long time fan as well as a player of streetball this whole thing hurts both Skip as well as the game. I hope it didn’t happen for his sake. Streetball is a little shakey as it is now so this won’t help one bit. The NBA is going through some hard times to right now… not good.
