Starbury: Crazy in Love

Plus: No more Pops in Dallas?

by Marcel Mutoni

-Is this the end of the Pops Mensah-Bonsu era in Dallas?

The addition (of Brandon Bass), the Mavs’ first of the free-agent signing period, could mean Pops Mensah-Bonsu, a 6-9 forward, won’t be back with the Mavs next season.

-Tim Don-a-gie’s two bookies have been identified as being old high school friends of his.

But the two bet-takers apparently exaggerated their Mafia connections. “They’re nobodies,” a law enforcement source said.

(That’s going to be one hell of a high school reunion.)

-If you ever want to rig an NBA game, here are some good tips.

-It’s been too long since we’ve had a dose of Starbury, so here you go:

“A lot of people say I’m out of my mind, but I like [that]. They say that I’m crazy, but I’m crazy in love; that’s what it is.”

(I don’t know about you, but my day just got a whole lot better after reading that.)

-Nate McMillan’s son doesn’t like the team his father coaches. He’s so gonna get grounded.

the pops era was glorious and you can’t tell me otherwise.

Mo Charlo says:
“I’d rather own than be owned.” Maybe Pops can go to Europe with Starbury. Hopefully Pops leaving will do more for the Mavs than Steve Nash leaving.

Mo Charlo says:
Also, in reference to the Nate McMillan article:a) Damn right, Go Spurs Go. b) I may retire the moniker “Mo Charlo” in preference for “Mac Nickle”

“I hope James learns that it’s time to behave like a man and get married, now that his live-in girlfriend has had a second baby.”- Starbury Them some fightin words to me!

white hot eboy says:
Dblizzy! I think this quote is way worse referring to Bron Bron. “I didn’t know he owned Nike. I own my own company. I’d rather own than be owned. It’s a learning process.” The insinuation in that comment is rough.

Ron says:
Russ, I guess your wish of Don-a-gie getting whacked is now over.

Starbury always has a place to write here at SLAM. He knows this.

Chukaz says:
What? The Pops era is over? Does this mean the Spurs are gonna suck and Eva is going to divorse Tony? Wait… it’s another Pops. My bad. Does this mean that the Mavs won’t be contenders next season? We all know that Pops is the driving force of that team. Pops was good for about 50 of their Ws last season. It’s a shame the Pops era is ever.

bootlace says:
Shaq, Steph, and Gil need to get together and make a TV show. Shaq can be the host, and Steph and Gil are ‘leaders’ of their respective teams. Then you get random celebrities (sports stars preferably) as guests (2 for each team)and make this crazy competition. This is so good, I think I might blog about it.

Jul.26 at 9:29 pm

Adrian says:
Cutting edge bootlace, really…

Well, I indeed blogged about possible TV shows with Shaq/Marbury/Arenas, check it out if it suits your fancy.
