Baron Davis Knows What Don Nelson Needs

Plus: Darko to Philly?

by Marcel Mutoni

-Baron Davis has figured out what it’ll take for coach Nelson to return to the sidelines: Love and money.

“A lot of hugs and kisses,” Davis said. “And some stocks.”

“I’m worried, but at the same time, I’m not,” Davis said. “I know that Chris Mullin and our management team, they’ll figure it out with coach. Everybody will play fair.”

Even though Russ doesn’t agree, The Baron went on to say that he thinks Don Nelson deserves a raise.

-Spike Lee is happy that Greg Oden signed with Nike instead of Adidas. (Via: Inside Hoops)

-Is Gary Payton about to hang up his sneakers for good? Funny, I could’ve sworn the guy had been out of the League for years.

-The Wolves’ Corey Brewer has a pretty high basketball IQ and picks things up very quickly.

“My biggest thing is the way he picks up on things,” teammate Randy Foye said. “Coach explains it, and five minutes later he’s out there performing it.”

-George Karl wants free agent Steve Blake to continue running the point for the Nuggets. After Lil’ Stevie’s impressive showing in the San Antonio series, I think the Nuggets should do everything possible to sign him up.

-Billy King and the Sixers are interested in Darko.

Watch Billy try to overpay Darko the way he overpaid Dalembert and Korver. If anyone signs Darko to a deal for more than 3yrs and between 5-6 mil per is wasting money. Since Billy gave Dalembert 10 mil and 7 mil to Korver, Darko, if offered a deal would get about 8-9 mil over 5-6 yrs. That is called being overpaid.

Philly Boston and Atlanta should be forced to move to the D-league, as a wake up call. nothing like 50$ per diems and bus rides to scare you straight.

in the old bill laimbeer combat basketball game, the top two teams in a league moved up and the bottom two teams moved down. the nba could set up somethign like that. they could also allow bombs and pushing and goal-tending. just to keep things interesting.

I’m assuming Khalid is on his way to Philly to kill Billy King before it’s too late.

And while it’s tragically too late for Philly and Atlanta, is it safe to say that no one named “Billy” should ever be allowed to be an NBA GM ever again?

SLAM ONLINE | » Whoa, Nellie! *UPDATED 7-10* says:
[…] EDIT: As linked to earlier today by my esteemed colleague Mr. Mutoni, apparently Baron Davis thinks Nellie deserves a raise, too. But of course. Players pretty much have to support renegotiation—remember Scottie Pippen’s semi-annual contract woes? But Pip had an unfortunate habit of locking himself into long-term deals right before the entire League’s salary structure leapt upwards. He actually WAS underpaid most of the time. Nellie? He’s coached all of half a season, and benefitted from one of the most lopsided trades in recent memory followed by the most fortuitous first-round playoff matchup ever. Hell, if anyone deserves a raise, it’s Chris Mullin. […]

Khalid, please kill Billy, You might be the Sixers fans only hope. This could set our franchise back another 3-4 years. I can’t wait that long.

Hate on Darko and all, but (like many have pointed out) he is only 22 .. not an old man by any means. He was getting into a groove last year near the end and best of all he’s mean. I think if someone gives him some serious minutes he could give Oden and company something to think about the night before they face him. Does anyone remember him going off on a ref after getting ejected in a game last year? Excellent stuff. Man, I wish Yao got that angry!

Young C says:
On behalf of Khalid, Ill be the resident Sixer fan regarding Darko. We would love to have Darko on our team, as long as it is for the mid-level exception. 9-10 million is way too much for a guy who hasnt proven much. His is only 22, and we didnt get a starting PF from the draft, so for us it would be like getting another 1st round pick.

Jul.10 at 9:03 pm

Young C says:
And by the way Ron, Billy didnt overpay for Korver. Korver only makes about 4.5 million which is less than the MLE. Korver will be the biggest bargain on the entire team after Iguodala signs his extension.

Judging by Khalid’s continued absence, I’m starting to think he really DID go to Philly to kill Billy Knight.

Signing Darko for a sh*t load of money is like that time that the Spurs paid Jaquie Butler like 5 mil to sit on their bench and get a ring. For real, Jaquie Butler got more rings this year with the Spurs than playin’ time.
