Utah at Golden State: Game 4 Notes
The Jazz demoralize Golden State and its fans.
-What another great Playoff game in Oakland. It’s a shame this was probably the last one this season.
-Thanks for not allowing Reggie Miller and Dick Stockton anywhere near the building, TNT. Thank you very much.
-Carlos Boozer is a MAN. I don’t really know any other way to describe him. It’s too bad he’s been ravaged by injuries the last few years, because he is one of the most talented and relentless players in the League. A joy to watch.
-Even after Baron Davis hit a rain-maker of a three to close out the third quarter, Utah had the momentum going into the final period. They had withstood the crowd’s energy; the pace of the game was to their liking; Boozer was beasting on everyone; and they were grabbing every board in sight.
(As for Baron, he’s had such an amazing Playoff run that it’s now almost shocking when he has an off night. 6 for 16 shooting from the field will not cut it in Game Five and he knows it. “I just didn’t find it,” Davis said. “It’s all on me. It’s not on my teammates. It starts on me and ends on me. I have to assume the responsibility for this.”)
-Now, I love Stephen Jackson, but he really hurt his team last night. It’s OK to pass the ball from time to time, Stephen. I Promise.
(I understand being frustrated about not getting calls — and Jackson had a legitimate case on a number of drives to the hoop — but you can’t start jawing at the refs while you have the ball and your team is trying to run its offensive sets. That’s just common sense.)
-How many times are the Basketball Gods going to smile upon Derek Fisher this postseason? You just knew he was going to have a big say in the game’s outcome when he hit that enormous three to give Utah an 89-87 lead with about eight minutes to go. Andris Biedrins had just scored on a dunk inside, and the crowd was going bananas, but Sloan decided to pull a Phil Jackson and left his team on the floor to try and figure things out. Fish then got open for a split-second before wetting a deep baseline three. There is ice water coursing through that dude’s veins.
(When Fisher and the rest of the Jazz shooters began sucking the life out of the Warriors, TNT got some fantastic crowd-reaction shots. The message was written on the faces in the stands: Our guys are in big trouble and this series might be over.)
-The Warriors made 12 three pointers but missed 27 of them. Utah, thanks to their size advantage, swallowed up the long rebounds and this led to a number of easy baskets.
-Utah is the better team in this series. This has never been in doubt. Someone on Inside the NBA brought it up after the game, but Don Nelson had already said it about his squad: They don’t have a Plan B. They’re going to run and bomb away until the shots stop falling. Live by the three, die by the three. In Game Four, the long range bombs stopped falling and they lost.
(Utah has the talent and depth to play pretty much any style; start running like crazy, and they’ll run along with you. Try and slow it down, and they’ll pick-and-roll you to death.)
-The Golden State Warriors will be playing a desperate brand of basketball in Game Five and it’s going to be one hell of a showdown. But now that Utah has passed their hardest test so far — winning inside the madhouse that is the Oracle Arena — you have to like their chances going back home.

I love Golden State, but it’s true that their problem is that they don’t have any inside presence, which got me thinking. Why don’t they send Jason Richardson, Al Harrington and a pick or two to Minnesota for KG? Think that would fly?

GS for NBA champs (or at least get to the finals), new king of zero-to-hero, Stephen Jax, crowned by the long time king himself, Sir Charles. In fact, could that be a new section in the mag, or even better “Whatever happened to….?”, Harold Miner, Kenny “Sky”Walker, Spree?!?

It’s the playoffs. it’s bound to get a little gritty. The NBA game has been softened up way too much already as it is. I loved the hard fouls. you don’t have to send a guy to ER but come on.

Bolletrie says:
The GSW were a little lackadaisical throughout the game. they played with no emotion throughout the game. maybe they’re tired. maybe they just had enough and don’t really care about the playoffs. they’re just that kind of team. at one point Stephen Jackson was just laying on the ground after a supposed foul while the game was still in play. Baron davis did not even bother to cross the halfcourt line on another occasion. I was waiting for somebody to be ejected like in the dallas series when they didn’t feel like it that night. I hope they get it toghether. GSW is very fun to watch.
May.14 at 10:37 am
StephenJacksonLovesOakland says:
GSW were tired and had no emotion. Davis’ cheapshot on Fisher was exagerated by Fish, but Richardson’s hard foul on Okur was a cheap shot. Okur shouldn’t be trying to dunk on anyone right there anyway.

Those fouls at the end, especially J-Rich on Memo, were over the line. But, they kind of fit in with everything else about the Warriors.
Excellent call Rod Strickland. The worst thing about HDTV is Carlos Boozer’s skin.

Meh, I don’t mind the mate. Jazz used to be like the Spurs. So freaking efficient, you looked forward to seeing them lose (which happened very infrequently). I was reminded of a Seinfeld episode where Kramer is trying to coach Miss Rhode Island into the Miss USA pagent: “Yes, they’re important! If you stumble, if you hesitate, you can kiss the crown goodbye. Now if I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times - poise counts! It’s just as important as the others. Swimsuit! Evening wear! Talent! POISE!” I guess substitute Evening wear with Defense and Swimsuit with staying with your game plan. But poise man. I can’t believe a young team like this has this much of it. In that amazing arena of all places. I mean other than Fish and his 3 rings, you have Okur who was a 7th man on DET04, and 3 playoff rookies (I think) starting on this team. No one else has anything significant for playoff experience. I guess fighting off Sloan was more dificult than fighting the Oracle crowd for the night. I’ve noticed that after game three there were like 50 million pro-GSW posts. Now, silence is golden. It’s not over, and it’s still a fantastic story. All I can say is UTAH F’N COVER.

Boozer aka Panthro is feasting on Golden State’s frontcourt players. He’s too quick to put a center/power forward on him and he’s too strong and powerful to put a small forward on him. Boozer reminds me of Charles Barkley without the perimeter game. Boozer is Chuck-lite!

Derek Fisher…that guy needs a Golden Globe award. Sure Baron landed a soft elbow, he was just clearing space for himself… but Derek was “sprawled” all over the ground grabbing his head as if he just got clobbered. Theres nothing more irritating than some chump over-exaggerating a foul. (Yes, I know it was pretty lame when Baron did the same thing to JET in Dallas). Baron will probably get suspended because Derek made it look like Baron f*cked him up. And with Jrich, it was the refs’ fault for swallowing their whistles. The Warriors were trying to foul the entire possession but I guess the refs wanted the game to end. It was their fault. Okur’s team was up by 11 points and there was no point in trying to dunk it in someone’s face… I think it was Monta who Okur was about to dunk on. Just pull up for the jumpshot and hurry along with the game already. Jrich wouldn’t let anyone disrespect their homecourt like that.

I was at this game yesterday, contrary to what the writer of this blog says, the crowd never stopped going full tilt, the bay doesn’t get down like that. Also, people stop the talk about how Utah is the better team in this series. This series should be 3-1 warriors, save for a few free throws that didn’t go down. Having the game gift wrapped and handed to you in no way shape or form makes you the better team. Get off the hater wagon that all the media types have jumped on. And Shu, unlike you I post after a win or a defeat, grow some and stop chiming in with the cheap posts after utah get’s gift wrapped wins. You can clip all that efficency nonsense you’ve been talkin. We all know the Jazz got lucky the first two games in utah, so please do the general public a favor and stop fellating the jazz. NOW. Loser.

StephenJacksonLovesOakland says:
I have to agree that free throws are part of the game, and the better teams make their free throws to win these games… GSW have been in position to win every game in this series but have been consistantly outplayed in the 4th quarter. A big part of that is their inability to make free throws.. trust me, it’s frustrating as hell watching it happen over and over on TV. But the teams who are considered legit contenders don’t have this issue.

People tend to get irrational when things arent going thier way. Much like the case of davis and richardson. But props to both fish and memo for keeping thier poise and finishing out the game. Fish was even kind enough to stick up for Boom. I think both fouls were uncalled for, but I dont want them to miss game 5. We all know that the jazz are good enough to win this series with both of them on the court. So lets not give the warriors any excuses. Let em play stu. And zee- call it luck, call it skill, call it what ever. At the end of the day, We’re still up 3-1. I’ll take that luck anyday. Ill take it all the way to the western conference final.

I think it is so funny that all the warriors fans say that it was messed up for memo to go in for a dunk when the jazz were up by so much. The warriors are sore ass losers, and they are a fluke. the jazz are going to win, so got out with some class. warriors suck. have a nice summer, thugs. the jazz will be enjoying there championship run. charles barkley was right. the bay area sucks. all their is is classless sorelosing babies, fog and queers.

DC Hilton says:
The people who find the Utah Jazz boring cannot honestly claim to be basketball fans. Sure, they may enjoy the slam dunks, the jacked-up threes, the humiliating facials but only team work and defense gets it done at the highest level. The recent US failures in international play are an indication of how our basketball priorities have changed. What happened to team play and basic fundimentals? Argentina is now better than the US in international play. They have a gold medal to prove it. That’s pretty shocking!
May.15 at 1:03 am
ALX8725 says:
MountainMan, both teams were still playing hard when Baron dunked on AK47. Warriors already had the white flag up when Okur tried to dunk, did you not learn anything from what happened with the Knicks/Nuggets? You just don’t go emphatically dunking (especially when you’re the visiting team) if you have the game won and the home team has their white flag up. If you do, prepare to eat paint, which is what happened. Players have pride and they aren’t going to let anyone make a mockery of them on their homecourt. Funny how the Warriors lay a couple of hard fouls and they are suddenly “thugs”. It was pretty classless of Derek Fisher to act as if he totally got clobbered and was sprawled out all over the floor, pretending to be writhing with pain, when Baron simply shoved his forearm to clear space. I understand the need to defend your team, but come on. And then you have to go and be ignorant with “babies, fog and queers.” Way to help feed the ultra-conservative-redneck-mormon stereotype that is Salt Lake City. What the hell is a “fog” anyways?
May.15 at 10:20 am
DK52 says:
Your calling Derek Fischer classless. Are you crazy or just messed up in the head? Didn’t you watch the game Baron gave him a perfect right back bow in the right eye of DFish. He’s one of the classiest players in the history of the NBA and is looking out for other people’s children by saying they should get them checked out for Cancer so they don’t end up like his baby daughter did. Harrington has always been a hack and Jrich play was a hard foul but no dirty on Okur.
May.15 at 11:32 am
Zee says:
You Jazz fans really need to get it together, maybe you’ve got the labeling all wrong as far as classless crybabies go, cause you guys are up 3-1 and are crying like you’re down 1-3! And the nonsense you guys are typing! @ DK52, if harrington is a hack, i want a hack who is 6′8,in the top ten in 3 point percentage, can handle the rock and still has about 8-10 years left in the league. This is shaping up to be a complaining contest by a bunch of jazz fans who still haven’t dried off from the jumpers MJ rained on you guys in the finals. At least the Warriors “classless” organization has managed to produce a ring. What have you guys managed to produce besides a bunch of irritating posts?

Hey Zee, let’s see if it wasn’t for Fischer and Horry the Lakers wouldn’t have their three peat from 00-02. I don’t care how many threes Harrington has hit, he is a bum and a HACK which apparently you don’t know means you foul all the time, he got benched in Indi and has fouled out of 20% of the games. Stephen Jackson is a good player who I like but he is another trouble making whiner. He’s got a bad temper and a cry-baby like mentality. Don’t pull a MJ flash on me, we all know what he did to a lot of teams in the playoffs not just the Jazz. Nonsense please how many times have you made it into SLAM ?? I know my stuff, Fisch is one of the top 5 defenders in the league and this series with Golden State is over like it or not.
May.15 at 12:31 pm
ALX8725 says:
DK52, just because Derek Fisher is usually classy doesn’t mean he can’t be. Baron gave him a SHOVE. I really hope you have tivo because you need to watch it again. Baron gave him a shove to clear space. Matt Harping fouls harder than that just battling for position with his defender, and I don’t mind because its all part of the game. Derek Fisher was trying to win an Oscar with that performance because it happened away from the ball and he was trying to get the ref’s attention. Please, that was the biggest flop in this series so far. It could be classified in the Ginobili-category of flops.
May.15 at 12:34 pm
ALX8725 says:
DK52, Fisher is one of the top 5 defenders in the league? LOL. WOW. Can you say…. HOMER? I’m going to have to stop reading your posts now because if it gets anymore absurd than “Fisher is one of the top 5 defenders in the league” I just don’t know what I’ll do with myself.

DK52 says:
DFish had a red small swelling under his eye after the elbow BDiddy gave him. It may have been a flop but you have to do what it takes for your team to win. Hey opinions are like buts everyone has one, I can give my say. Fischer isn’t even one of my fav players, but I respect him and think he knows how to play the game-he can guard any player and position on the court other than center. My top 5 defenders go like this 1. Artest 2. Bowen 3. Kobe 4. Kirilenko 5. DFish followed by Duncan and Ben Wallace in the frot court. Feel free to disagree and put Yao Ming at the top of your board-that BUM got destroyed by C-Booz.
May.15 at 12:45 pm
Zee says:
@ DK52, If making it into slam is the pinnacle of your life, maybe you need to get out more. And yes you are spouting nonsense, because fish and bob played with hmm well only the best all around guard and the most dominant center in the league! Wow yeah they sure did carry those teams to rings..you idiot. Please PLEASE stop posting comments. Beacuse saying crap like Fisher is in the top 5 all time defensively should get you banned from most sites. Whats next, Horry should be an hall of famer? You said you know your stuff, if by stuff you mean not a damn thing, you are absolutely correct.

DK52 says:
Let me tell you something son there is no need for name calling. As I stated they had the two most dominant players but it was Horry who beat the Kings and Fischer who beat the Spurs. I NEVER said Fischer was top 5 defensively all time. I said he is top 5 right now-learn how to read. Jordan beat Utah twice not Several. He also beat Houston, Phoenix, LA, Seattle, and Cleveland in big games as well Jordan is Jordan DUH!! If your about to cry for reading these comments then get out of this column.

First off, everybody pay real good attention to Baron, he’s been flopping so much both Reggie and Vlade would be embarrassed! And clearing room, for what baron was coming back in bound stopped, looked and threw his elbow! It don’t get any more clear cut than that, and about how the Jazz look huh? Well San francisco is known for it’s fag’s and queer’s! and seriously the Warrior’s lack of a post threat is the reason there down 3-1!
May.15 at 5:58 pm
Holiday says:
Oh and the Jordan comment’s! now Im not even gonna talk about the “push off” cause that one is debatable but there was a shot clock violation a Jazz 3-pointer that should never have been and a no call when one the bull’s obviously still had the ball in his hand as there shot clock expiered for a 3 as well! not to mention the no call on Jordan late in the game for two foul’s that turned into point’s for the bull’s! that’s 10 point’s, Jazz should have won by 8!
May.15 at 6:38 pm
ALX8725 says:
FYI Holiday, the Warriors are based in Oakland, CA. And I’m not gay or anything, but you couldn’t have just said “SF is known for its gay population”???
