Brandon Roy is your rookie of the year. He received 127 of 128 first place votes, and deserved this honor with a tip of the cap to Andrea Bargnani’s exploding appendix. 16.8 ppg and 4 assists every night on a bad team. This was not a good rookie class. Remember the horrors of the Rookie-Sophomore game? Next year it could be just as ugly, with the rookies delivering the beatdown. How embarrasing. Oh, but congrats to Brandon Roy! You are the winner of something called the Eddie Gottlieb trophy. Roy for ROY.

The one guy who voted for Bargnani? Chuck Swirsky, the Raptors’ television play-by-play man. He said on the air during multiple games that he got a Rookie of the Year ballot and was voting for Bargnani. Bargnani wasn’t winning this thing with or without his appendice, though.

Not to diminish Brandon Roy’s ROY award, but in all honesty, none of this year’s rookies really stood out. We’ll see what happens next year with Durant and Oden.

There wasn’t much of a race this year, but that shouldn’t take away from how well Roy played. I think most NBA teams would gladly take him.

Even if Bargnani’s appendix didn’t explode, was it really a contest? I think the numbers speak for itself. Sure, the Blazers were a crappy team this year, but an 11 game improvement in wins isn’t anything to scoff it. Anyone who doesn’t think that Roy has been the best player in this class has yet to see him play. Whether he is the best in his class when it is all said and done is TBD.

Weak class, but don’t sleep on Roy - dude is solid. He’s got serious basketball IQ and a niice midrange jumper. Like Russ said, a lot of teams would gladly take him. Bargnani - a 7 footer who doesn’t even average 4 boards a game? He’s not ready for any kind of award just yet.
