Detroit at Orlando: Game 3 Recap

AKA, “The Links”

By Ryan Jones

There’s this guy, Jerry Greene, who writes a sports column for the Orlando Sentinel. It’s called “From the Cheap Seats.” Here’s what he wrote today:

“TNT was a bomb Thursday night.

The disdain displayed for Game 3 of the Magic-Pistons playoff series by the national cable network was insulting beyond belief. The seemingly preordained Pistons’ victory barely mattered to TNT, and how it was reached mattered not at all.”

Jerry’s writing primarly for people in Orlando, people who, theoretically, give two sh*ts about this series because they have a dog in the fight. He’s catering to his audience. Good for him.

I don’t have a dog in this fight, but that’s not why I’m treating it with even less respect than TNT. It’s because I know it’s not a fight in the first place. And so do (almost) all of you.

For those of you who don’t, good news: I’ve found some people who clearly take their jobs much, much more seriously than I do.

Here’s one.

And here’s another one.

And another.

And another.

Hey, here’s one more.

And another one.

One more.

One more again.

And one more after that.

Oops! Almost forgot this one.

If you want, you can read this, too.

As much fun as it is to laugh at the Magic, there are lots of intriguing questions about their future:
If Orlando somehow lands Vince in the free agent market, will they be substantially better? Should they let Hill walk to save cap room, or try and resign him at a discount? What is Darko’s future in Orlando? How much should they spend to keep him? Does Nelson have a future in Orlando?

I read that article from Greene and it was a joke. The Magic have to earn that respect from a national cable station. If, say, the Magic beat the Pistons 3 times this year and won Game 1 then it would be a different story (like the Warriors). The Pistons have beat the Magic 7 straight times and Saturday its going to be 8. I thought the Magic could pull one of these games out, but when the Pistons hit their 3s and free throws, they are almost impossible to beat. I’m just looking forward to the draft.

The Magic have the pieces, they just young as shit with a terrible coach that sucked the magic (yes, pun intended) outta the same team 10 years ago… Definitely keep Hill at an as-is price. Keep Nelson. Let Darko go, Move DHoward to the center spot and Turkey-glue to the 4 and become the East Coast PHX…or at least GS…Fire Brian Hill (again) and sign Penny to the league minimum so he can personally escort BHill out the friggin do’…

Ryan, your writeups were clearly the best part of this whole Godforsaken series. You’ve let down a nation today. I hope you’re happy.

Nicely done. I’d hazard to guess a certain “hot d” won’t be too thrilled, though.

“TNT was a bomb Thursday night.” That’s a PUN! I love those. Also, you know who probably has a dog in this fight? Michael Vick.

Orlando needs a new coach. Why did they hire Brian Hill for a 2nd go around anyway?
