Reggie And Dirk
Together?
The frighteningly loaded Dallas Mavericks (currently enjoying a historic winning streak, and on pace for 69 wins) have an open roster spot, and they’re looking to fill it. Buried in the notes of a column in the Dallas Morning News today comes this gem: Mark Cuban wouldn’t mind Reggie Miller filling the spot.
Owner Mark Cuban brought up Miller’s name before Monday’s game against the Hawks.
Avery Johnson said he and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson have been discussing options for the open spot, but are not close to any decisions.
I seriously doubt that Reg would be so willing to give up his cushy TNT gig for a roster spot on the Mavs. Then again, this would probably be his best shot at getting that elusive ring.
What do you guys think?
(Thanks to the ‘Haus for the tip)

Lets not forget Kenny beat Reg in the TNT 3-point shootout. Reg may be losing it. Or maybe Kenny is just that good.

Here’s hoping they sign someone crazy like…
Dale Ellis? I don’t know how old he is but he could come in and bury open threes still. Plus, he was drafted by Dallas way back when, giving TNT another story angle to distract us during the two week first round playoffs.

I’ve been saying all year that the Mavs need to fill the role of the NBA villain. The team you love to hate. Reggie would make a nice addition and solidify that spot.
If he signs with them, go Suns!

Why the heck would you add another shooter? They have enough. I doubt Reggie can guard anyone. If anything sign a nice defensive presence.

if only the knicks were in the west, so reggie could destroy their fans’ souls once again for old time’s sake.

cal, kenny got 5 warm-up shots…man reggie would so awsome on the mavs but that true bout them needing another defensive player since devean geogre had that knee injury

Wouldn’t the Mavs be better off getting another big for the playoffs? There is no way Reggie can play defense anymore, and who’s minutes would he take? I’d take Harris, Terry, Stackhouse, Howard and even Devon (for his d) over Reggie.

Would you respect him if he did? It seems pretty cheap.

I really hope a trend starts of old players signing with contenders at the end of the season to try and get rings. Karl Malone to the Suns in 2008!

why don’t they just sign Patrick Ewing…

Even being gone from the game for a year, I certainly would rather have Reggie taking those 10 minutes a game over Anthony Johnson. It would only cost the Mavs a 10-day contract to see if Reggie can help them. I don’t know that he’d do it though unless he could crack the rotation. As bad as he probably would want a ring, I don’t think he wants to sit on the Dallas bench and watch a franchise he’s had nothing to do with and players he’s up to now had nothing to do with win it all. If the Mavs need another warm body for scrimmage purposes, they can just grab somebody from the D League.

This actually is a good a place as any to bring up a new rule I thought of while watching the Cavs play in those safety orange throwbacks. Any team playing in throwback jerseys should be able to bring back one player from that era for that game. You’re telling me Mark Price couldn’t hit a three or two still? This would be no help to the Knicks, who’ve worn ‘51-52 jerseys (Richie Guerin!), but still.

why not give Stacey Augmon a 10 day contract, defense wins games, and he can still give 5-10 quality mins.

Great shooters, the Mavs already have, adding another annoying personality to team Cuban, well Reggie would fit that perfectly. I think adding a two for one in a pure athlete, Sir Charles, pure attitude. With pure officiating, something the Mavs needed in last years finals, Dick Bevetta. Kiss of Death Duo.

Couldn’t agree more Rubenstein. Washed up 40 year old who could never get his own team to the promised land leeches onto the squad, that if you watch TNT, he’s been saying all year will win the chip. Forget the 17 year legacy as a clutch shooter, he’s a has been. It’s like me signing for the Mavs and sitting on the injured list just to get a ring. Fucking dick.

Tom Jackson says:
Damn Boyd, how you gonna call Reggie out like that? He’s never even commented on the situation or been involved with it, it was just an idea that Cuban threw out. How’s Reggie a fucking dick and all that because someone else mentioned his name? Some people are morons, man.

Sorry, i’ll clarify: Regardless of who brought it up, if Reggie joins the Mavs he’s a fucking dick.

Yeah, I hate the fact the people try to hitch a ride to a Ring, that’s so lame. Like when Payton and Malone signed with the Lakers, that was pitiful and Payton followed Shaq right to Miami. I think it means something if you stick with a team for your whole career, trying to win a ring. To me Reggie still went out on top, but if he came back now, he would f*ck that all up.

he’d be a fucken d1ck with a ring though.. not like he ever cared what people who dislike him thought about him..

No way! Reggie is a class act and won’t go back to the league. Even if that means no ring. I think he is a bigger man than that.
