Player of the D.A.Y.
4 deserving candidates. 3 losers.
The new EA Sports MVP baseball game showed up at the office for Lang today. That’s right, college baseball. I don’t really care about it as a sport, but last year’s game was so much fun to play that I would put it in the top 5 games of the year, easily. They don’t make it for PS3 or any of the next gen consoles, and maybe its better that way cause sometime too much realism ruins the game. I’m looking forward to renewing the afternoon rivalry with Lang. Even if he puts in his cheat codes when I’m not looking.
But you’re here for NBA player of the D.A.Y. There were four real standout performances in wins. One is Stephen Jackson getting his revenge against the Pacers in Indy, with the Super Bowl champs watching from courtside. Another is Andre Iguodala going off against the Nets. Caron Butler picked up the slack for a struggling Gilbert Arenas (and missing Jamison) but that was against the Sonics. And the final one is Amare Stoudemire carrying the Suns past the Nuggets, with Nash out with a shoulder injury, though the Nuggets were without Iverson and Camby.
Hmmmmmm… I feel like I’ve gravitated to the Suns and Nets this year, one for the fun factor, the other because all of their games are close and they usually blow it. Jackson had 7 turnovers and got his shot blocked from behind by a 38 year old 5 foot 10 guy. Can’t do it. Iguodala, close but I’m sorry. I have to give it to a huge performance in the biggest game of the night.
Player of the D.A.Y. is Amare Stoudemire. 36 and 13 on 13 of 17 shooting, making Carmelo’s triple double (and first 10 rebound game of the season) a loser.

Hey Sam, instead of afternoon rivalries, what about some Daily Links for a change?

carmelo actually had 16/8/8 in the first half, the fact that he only got the “minimalist” triple double was actually slight bit disappointing.

Daily Links.. BAHAHAHHAHHHA!. Nice try my friend. Those days are looooong gone. Before SLAM went all fancy with the website Lang actually enjoyed doing them. Now, it’s like a chore for him. There used to be a game of the day, a TON of Links, a link to his SI pieces, somtimes things that had nothing to do with bball but still fun to read. Hey, even Starbury used to get a mention every now and then. Now… NO MAS Senor. Ahh.. the good ol days.

We still get a Link thrown our way every so often. When’s the last time Omar reviewed a movie? Movie tickets ain’t THAT expensive, SLAM has a budget for that!

Yeah, it seems there was even a time there when Lang would carve Ryan for not updating his blog — Interesting, updates.

Maybe SLAM should just make personal websites that contain each person’s personal preference of reading material…

The D.A.Y. seems like the only thing that’s regularly updated for the last few weeks. The Links is still great when it appears. The Dirty 30 just abruptly stopped… But the site’s still great and the slamonline community is one of the more fun aspects.

Yeah, true, but if Lang can’t find the time for The Links anymore - as has been the case on and off for quite a while now - maybe they should think about assigning that s**t to someone else. I’m just saying…Also, I think Amare was a really lame choice for POTD this time.

We’re trying to bring new voices to slamonline, so it’s not just Lang with me filling in. If this was the old days, it would be one of those times when I would fill in for him for a whole week and start every column “Lang is busy with…” and go from there. Instead, now we’re giving you posts from a bunch of different people. If everything works out like I hope it does, we’ll have a whole bunch of new contributors joining us soon enough.

You guys posting are a bunch of ungreatful b*tches.
Start your yelling & hollering and delivering witty banter till your fingers bleed when your subscription to “Insider” only updates a few times a week. Instead, it posts nothingness, and not even very good “inside” nothingness like, every 27 seconds; Of which 80% of those links (which some of us po’ folks can’t afford!) are locked inside the great sports fortress of ineptitude. Don’t get me wrong, I like the follower, I just think this club that has free cover charge is just great. (And seems to have more insider material too)
Don’t listen to them SLAM, keep doing what ya do.

That may be true… however it dosn’t change the fact that the Links are not what they used to be.
As for the follower.. well… u keep on following Champ!
