Player of the D.A.Y.
Correcting wrongs
On Friday I went through my thought process of how I feel like I may be shortchanging Dirk and/or Josh Howard because the two of them keep cancelling each other out by playing at such a high level at the same time on the same team. They both lost to Dwyane Wade, who once again may have had the best individual day in the league, but his team lost to that Dallas combo. Of course, Jerry Stackhouse might have been the difference in the game. I try not to look back at the history of Player of the D.A.Y. when picking the new winner, but Dirk has only one and Josh Howard has none. Can I really give this to Stackhouse today?
Other names in the mix would be Marion and Amare for what they did to Minnesota. Marion had 20 boards in 3 quarters, but the league’s leading rebounder wasn’t there to stop him. Tim Duncan beat Philly, but that was Philly. Brandon Roy for Portland? Eh. I need to show some respect to a guy that needs it.
Josh Howard gets his first Player of the D.A.Y. It could have just as easily gone to Dirk, but I’m giving it to Josh. Dirk won his only one in a controversial decision when I should have given it to LeBron. 25 points, 9 boards, and 3 steals for Josh. Soon I will release my official mid-season story of the league through the eyes of the D.A.Y. and Player of the D.A.Y.

Dirk won his only one in a controversial decision and is appointed to be the leading candidate by Kobe and Nash and a frontrunner for lots of other experts.
Something is wrong with your system. Maybe you could just write in a few sentences, who got your player of the D.A.Y award for games played on friday and on saturday, even though thers is no D.A.Y.
Would make much more sense and is extra-work for just a few minutes.

I don’t understand why Player of the D.A.Y. should be about anything but the player of the day… I know you’re having fun with it and all, but you seem to have two agendas — an MVP selection race, and the best player on the day. You should stick to picking the latter.

I think you are all right. I outsmarted myself. I’ll do the midseason thing and then get back to normal.

This Player of the D.A.Y. stuff is getting to be serious business. Sweet idea, Sam. Now you just have to come up with what Y.E.A.R. stands for when you give out the Player of the Y.E.A.R award.

Danny Ferry says:
What if a certain team(ie. Raps) played more games on off days for the other teams in the league? And Rasho(just a random) was Player Of The D.A.Y. more than any other player? I think its a good barometer to judge who played well over the course of the season, but by no means a cut and dry method. Then again I just used Rasho as an example for an MVP so take Danny Ferry’s word with a grain of salt.
