Latrell Sprewell Could Use A New Contract
$200 million and a bad birthday. Not a good look.
Hope you had a good weekend, Latrell, because your life just got a lot messier. Sprewell’s former Wifey (and the mother of four of his children) has filed a $200 million palimony lawsuit against him, alleging that he ended the deal they had whereby she was basically his common law wife and cut her off.
According to the story, things had been bad for the last few months, and it all traces back to an incident on September 8, when Spree allegedly walked into the house and proclaimed they needed “to end this fake” relationship.
Why is September 8 significant? It isn’t mentioned in the AP story I linked to, but September 8 is Latrell Sprewell’s birthday. I know this information offhand only because September 8 is my birthday (and the big day for Mo Cheeks). So maybe Latrell chose that day to try and free himself from a “fake” relationship. Perhaps that was supposed to be his Independence Day. Didn’t work.
Got a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot more about this.

The mere mention of his name sends me into Proust-like bouts of nostalgia. If only Spree, Isaiah Rider, Iverson, and a non-knee-less C-Webb could have played on the same team some time between 1999-2003. That would have been sweet. If only…

She’s not getting 200 million. Even if Spree had 200 million, she wouldn’t get it. He’ll only be required to pay for the kids, and his common-law wife will get a substantial, but not exorbitant, amount of money for whatever amounts to “pain and suffering” for someone who’s been living extravagantly for the past eleven years. It’s called a pre-nup, young millionaires of today/tomorrow, get familiar. She’s suing for a handshake deal…somebody put her in touch with the Cleveland Cavaliers and mention the name “Boozer”.

What I don’t get is why in the world you would want to have a wife/common law wife, (fill in the blank) ball and chain when you are a celebrity or have loads of money. It’s just asking for a situation like this to happen. I bet she can’t even dribble a bball and she’s gonna get paid. Oh, and I also bet she has never worked a day in her life.

Spree, Rodman, and Rider were the T.O.’s of the Nba. They are major talents and teams initially took them in hopes that their talent would strongly contribute to the team more than their troubles, but eventually they’re more trouble than they’re worth. Eventually, no one wants them. That’s why Spree is not playing now. He still had a few good years in him. And T.O. is right behind him.
