Breaking News: Dwane Casey goes home

T-Wolves Fever: Catch it!!!

by Lang Whitaker

A couple of weeks ago I was talking with someone familiar with the inner-workings of the NBA and was told that Dwane Casey probably wouldn’t last much longer in Minnesota. I was told he was nearly released a few weeks back, but then the Wolves went on a 10-3 run to ring in the New Year. But since then they’ve lost four straight games, although that includes losses to Detroit, Phoenix and Utah, which can’t be games they expected him win outright.

Anyway, while with Minnesota, Coach Casey was never known for his ability to make in-game adjustments. But when a team (like, ahem, the Hawks last week) is raining outside jumpers all over your team, and a fan sitting at home watching on TV (like, ahem, me) is wondering why you’re not switching into a man-to-man defense, maybe it was time to make some changes.

What happens now? Let’s take a guess: Sidney Lowe takes over!

No, just kidding, that was every other season before this one. What really happens? Actually, Randy Wittman is taking over. Get ready T-Wolves fans! Your team is going to roar to a .500 finish and miss the playoffs again! And then your GM will keep his job but find a different coach and KG will be ornery but will stick around to give it another chance. And you’ll miss the playoffs again.

Ouch.
It’s to bad that KG doesn’t have the heart to leave the faithful in Minnesota.
You know he is gonna be just like Reggie unless someone saves that Franchise.
The power Forward with the most heart invested in the game i think.

Ben Collins says:
Not his fault. Keep surrounding KG with raw, too-young talent and trading them away before their any good (Billups at the time, Foye) and past-their-prime contract year whores (not to bash on our boy Mike James, but Mike Jame). What a poorly constructed team this is.

KMG says:
I hate to see my favorite player in the League get this kind of treatment. Though the words may never come out of his own mouth, it’s about time to let KG go, and give him a chance to bring his double double stats to a contender.

abelp says:
it all goes back to the desastrous 99 draft when they couldve had shawn marion rip hamilton jason terry corey maggette or ron artest…pick any 2 of em….that and the starbury trade….i wish kg would go to the lakers…kb24 for MVP !!!!

Things are so bad in Minnesota, they wish Flip Saunders was still their coach.

I feel sorry for KG more than any other player. Never has such sublime skill been surrounded by such stupidity and incompetence.

Russ Bengtson says:
Kevin McHale should have fired himself after the whole Joe Smith thing. That ruined the franchise. Losing what, four first-round picks? Five? Brutal.

Jan.23 at 9:59 pm

Will Lee says:
I would take 1/3 of Mchale’s salary and work there. Wolves owners, holla at me!

Jan.23 at 10:44 pm

Lang Whitaker says:
Yeah Russ, but the bright side there was they got to keep Joe Smith.

Jan.23 at 10:53 pm

Mike says:
The funniest thing about the whole Joe Smith debacle is that the signing was voided by the league, so the Wolves got to see Smith be a stiff in Detroit for a year, then they signed him anyway the following offseason. Wolves fever. It’s been caught.

David says:
How has McHale kept his job? Is there a longer tenured GM with a worse record? Or maybe he has his own shady contract with the T-Wolves office. I was going to respond with a best 5 HoF in team offices but I couldn’t think of anyone that fit both categories besides Dumars and Lenny Wilkens. Bird was a great coach but he hasn’t been that great for the Pacers since. Jordan isn’t very convincing so far. Elgin Baylor wasn’t considered a good GM until about a year ago…

Jan.24 at 3:44 am

Kevin Wilson says:
I echo abelp’s list, and add to it that the Timberwolves cheated to get Joe Smith (they got caught because they put their cheating in writing), and that their only chance at the Finals rested on a one-shot deal with guys who were just too old to keep up for a 100-game season (which explains why the Pistons killed the Lakers in the next round). Who’s behind all of these moves? Yep. And Elgin Baylor’s still not a good GM. They got lucky that the Bulls gave Elton Brand away.

Vitor says:
The T-Wolves should sing Sprewell. If KG is too nice to kill McHale, Spree just might do that for him.

Jan.24 at 10:41 am

Shiz says:
I think Spree’s had it with Stern and the NBA front office monkies…Basketball was never a way of life for him anyway… But if ya need the next best thing: Any news on J.R. Rider’s whereabouts? He’s always down to do some stupid shit…God bless his moronic soul.

albie1kenobi says:
o’leary’s probably thinking what KG’s thinking. the lone wolf may just die in the frigid cold alone. tragedy. (not to mention injustice)

Jan.24 at 6:34 pm

David says:
Oh - Jerry West should be on the list I mentioned before, too.
