The D.A.Y.vid Lee

The King of NY

By Sam Rubenstein

I have a hundred billion million things to do this morning, and I’ll have a more thorough blogged out D.A.Y. in a few hours. For now, I’d like to celebrate the greatness that is David Lee.

Two years ago Lang went to the first round of the NCAA tourney, saw Florida play, and came back really impressed with David Lee. When he was drafted by the Knicks, he reminded us all of how hard he played in college and that Larry Brown was going to love him. Last year, whenever David was on the court, the Knicks resembled a not horrible team. Of course, he was a rookie and Larry Brown did not play him because… I don’t know. You’d think he would have broken his policy of stubborness to play a guy that “plays the right way.” Isiah has been taking a beating lately, but the one thing he’s always been able to point to and show a level of competence in his post-NBA player career is his eye for talent. Lang and Isiah are apparently very similar men. Ahahahahhahah!!! No but seriously, Isiah brought in a sleeper in David Lee, and maybe Larry didn’t play him last year because of his petty power struggle with Isiah.

This season, David still doesn’t play enough. Every time he steps on the floor, he makes the team better. The very best thing to come out of the suspensions and the injuries to Francis and Q Rich, has been that its forced Isiah to leave David on the floor for 40+ minutes. In those games he has 20 and 19 boards. David Lee is an animal on the glass. Against Utah, he threw the perfect pass to Steph to convert a sure loss into a win. Against the Bobcats, he won the game by tipping in a lob from Jamal Crawford with 0.1 seconds left. Do you know how often those lob plays work? Almost never. David Lee has been a rebounding machine and winning games with the key play at crunch time, back-to-back.

Charles Oakley sat courtside because New York City spotlight hog Michael Jordan was in the building, and witnessed a Knicks player put forth an Oakley-like night (minus putting the fear of God in the other team). Channing Frye and Eddy Curry were able to keep shooting and scoring cause David was doing the dirty work. Much like Oakley enabled Ewing to play his game.

David Lee is my favorite Knick since Sprewell.

If David Lee doesn’t win the MVP, it is clearly rigged

And guys, be sure to vote for David on the All-Star ballot (you can find him by scrolling down the pull-down menu at the bottom). I’ve been doing this daily for some time now. Truth be told, I’m not that concerned with this whole “Eddy Curry for All-Star” drive; all I care is that Mr Lee makes it. This needs to happen - everybody on-board now!

I remember that Mcdonald dunk contest. James White was awesome and then he did something i haven’t seen at that point…a two handed free throw dunk. At the time, it was the sickest dunk in a dunk contest i have ever seen (until he did that tomahawk windmill dunk in the ncaa dunk contest). I still don’t know how he lost…oh yeah that’s right, David Lee wins because he took of his shirt before he dunked…..wow. Anyways, despite that, David Lee is one of the few reasons to watched the Knicks. The guy plays hard and hopefully the guy will get a lot more playing time. Cool to see, Jordan in the house. If you listen really carefully, after David Lee tipped in the game winner, you can hear Michael Jordan yell “Greg Oden”!!!

Uh Don, “he did something i haven’t seen at that point…a two handed free throw dunk.”
This guy, Vince somthing, may have done that 7 years ago…
I love how the Knick’s fan’s got on Mike’s ass after the buzzer, smacking his back and yelling in is face.

jeez was the vince thing really seven years ago…wow. i still remember hyperventilating after the 360 windmill…a lot of people big up the between the legs dunk…but that 360 windmill was something that I don’t think anyone can do..wow.

i don’t think Vince has ever done a two handed free throw dunk… if your referring to that dunk contest in oakland, his last dunk in that contest was a two handed dunk but it was clearly not from the free throw. I could be wrong though. Yeah that was funny how peoples were just ragging Michael when that shot went in.

Vince took off from a full step inside the line. I remember on hoopstv they have plenty of James White two hand from the free throw line and one hadn from the top of the key.

there were rotating guests sitting next to Jordan. Q-Tip, Ahmad, and a bunch of other random people. He’s like a dignatary at a dinner party.

Ahmad definetly can’t kick it.

Sports is awesome, and B-Ball even more so. That tip in with 0.1 (thought there was a rule stating that there had to be at least 0.4 on the clock for the shot to count) over Gerald nonetheless was fantastic. Now about the so called starters for the Knicks, time to give Frye, Lee and co. extended minutes because these men PLAY. Period

Dec.21 at 5:50 pm

Darksaber says:
Nope, Ahmad does not need to kick it, he’s such a vibrant thing, living in MJ’s colon.

Dec.21 at 5:52 pm

Darksaber says:
Great seeing the “legends” sitting courtside and seemingly having a ball. Ewing and especially Oak look intimidating, even while seated. That guy giving his airness an earfull better watch it, Oak’s out in town looking for his yapping butt to kick.

i’m gonna set the record straight now. James White is the best dunker you’ll ever see in a dunk contest (aside from The Air Up There, maybe). Vince did NOT dunk from the free throw line in that 2000 showdown (a step in). Mr. White dunked twice from the FT line, once two-handed (doing a “side-pump”) an the other dunk (get that on youtube, it’ll make your day) was a “BEHIND the FT line airwalk dunk”. THAT was the sickest dunk ever on a dunk contest. Not only that, but he did something I percieve as a double-windmill dunk (more like 1.5, but i dont see ppl bitching about Air up There’s 540/720). The “touch the backboard” dunk was fine too. On the between the legs he had his head on rim level (and it really IS rim level). David Lee didnt come close. Vince didnt come close.
However, that was on Contests. Vince IS the best overall dunker (all-time), coz he makes ppl look bad (Zo, anyone?), he has more posters per game average than Kwame Brown has points (ok, that wasnt a good comparison) AND he did jump over a human beign.
