The D.A.Y. Kobe’s knee was better

I thought of writing some type of 52 pickup headline, but other media outlets have that taken.

By Sam Rubenstein

Mutoni and I were planning on having a live running IM conversation about the Lakers-Jazz game as it happened. I had to back out because I was sick and took some drowsy cold medicine. I watched part of the first half, which ended with Kobe easily getting to the basket and finish with a shockingly brutal dunk that got some of Kirilenko. What lingering knee surgery hangover? He had 22 in the first half, and I went to sleep thinking hey that’s pretty good, he’ll score 40 something. The last thing I saw of that game was Kobe being interviewed at halftime when he said “My teammates feed off my aggresiveness.” That’s when I aggressively went to sleep. Mutoni watched the whole thing and has a second half report here.
LA LAKERS 132 UTAH 102
The Player of the D.A.Y. has never been an easier decision. Kobe’s firestorm keyed a 79 point second half for the Lakers. Utah was not playing well, looking sluggish after the previous night’s big win over the Spurs, but still. KobeKB824Mamba won’t have to change back to the #8 jersey to get his groove back. 19 of 26, 4 rebounds, 3 assists. 19 of 26 shooting, 12 of 15 from the line. 30 points in the third quarter alone. Wow. And a high five and hug from Phil. The Jazz are supposed to be the best team in the league now that they beat the Spurs. And he did this to them, shades of the Dallas game from last year when he scored 62. I haven’t mentioned anything about the Utah Jazz or any other player on either team yet. That’s fine. They didn’t matter.

DETROIT 87 MIAMI 85
This was the most anticipated match-up of the year in the East for the past two years. Right now it’s not as exciting. Dwyane Wade came into this game playing some of the best ball of his young Mr. Perfect career, and um, he continued to play well with 8 assists and no turnovers to go with 5 boards, and he made a key block that gave the Heat a chance to tie on the last possession. Unfortunately Dwyane shot what looked like an airball and he suffered through a 5 for 23 game. Udonis Haslem helped him out with 20 and 10, but the Pistons are starting to roll, and have now won 7 in a row. Rip led the way with 24, Rasheed picked up a tech. It’s like old times for Detroit.

one of those nights where kobe made folding laundry one of the most exciting times ever… i was losing piles of clothes because I would knock them over everytime he hit anothers MJ jumper…this guy is back …when I come back like Kobe with the Two Four it ain’t to play games with you-Jayz remix….do you think Phil actually said “hey Kobe this is Jerry Sloan stick it to him like only you know how”….Phil is running things and he is no dummy that was the “best” team so far this season and the lakers/kobe dominated…

I fell asleep too after the first half and I went to bed saying the same thing. I woke up this morning and heard on Sportcenter that he had 52! When you think about it it really isn’t suprising anymore when he hits over forty because he is such a great scorer when he gets rolling. I can’t believe I’m finally giving props to this man but game recognizes game. If he can do this on a bum knee I hate to see when he’s healthy.

In that Pistons-Heat game, sometime in the 4th, I heard Rasheed sarcastically shouting something about “the NBA’s golden child” when Wade was at the free throw line. Wade then looked at him like: “Please, leave me alone. I don’t like that.” I thought that was very funny. Did anybody else hear that? I watched the game online and for some reason there was no commentary but just the sound from the court and the arena.

I’ve never been a fan of Kobe, mostly because I have felt that he has been selfish, egotistical, childish, whatever. I don’t know that I like him any better, but dude has game, that is indisputable. Almost enough game to make me forget that he’s on the Lakers. I think I hate the Lakers simply because of the fact that they get all the bandwagon fans and few real hard core fans. and being from Portland doesn’t help my outlook much anyway…

That was the best team in the league right now?

I don’t think it’s being reported properly to show just how amazing he was last night, for those “fans” who weren’t able to see the game: In the third quarter, Kobe was 9-9 FG, 10-10 FTS This was in a closely contested game at that time!

Ric Bucher, ESPN says:
Actually, Kobe didn’t just break the half-century mark on the scoreboard. He also switched onto Kirilenko when he started to heat up on Walton and kept him scoreless until the game got out of hand. Which, combined with Kobe’s 15 free-throw attempts, is why all the talk of anyone being a better player is laughable. Only Steve Nash understands how to get his teammates going and yet take every big shot as well as Kobe does within the context of the game. And Nash simply doesn’t have the physical tools to play defense the way Kobe can. I understand. He doesn’t do funny commercials. He seemed to be channeling all of MJ’s mannerisms his first few years while denying any similarity. He has a nasty edge that he sometimes inflicts on people who meant him no harm. He doesn’t have Shaq’s seal of approval. The list of reasons those who don’t like him is long and varied. But how many times does one man have to drop iodine tablets into the same village well to make it potable? How many times must Kobe demonstrate that no one in the league — and I mean no one — has his combination of skill, tenacity, understanding of time and score, killer instinct and ability to control the game at the both ends? And how many times must I be the one taking the flag and waving it? Trust me, if you’re sick of me sticking up for Kobe, I’m equally sick of having to do it. It shouldn’t be this difficult to have the man recognized as the league’s all-around best player. OK, so you don’t like him. I’m good with that. But not respect him? Not give him his due? Anoint anyone who hasn’t accomplished half of what he has as The King or The One or The Whatever? Ignore what every player in the league will tell you, even those who consider him arrogant and a little bit evil, that he’s the best?

Chris says:
Even more impressive was the degree of difficulty of his shots, I don’t think he had any uncontested looks, most of his points were off jumpers that he had to create the space to get off of the dribble with a hand in his face, that and some difficult runners, and finishes in traffic. When his shot is falling like that there’s nothing anybody can do.

If you dislike the man for being a snitch insult him for that, dont use the ‘alleged rapist’ nonsense. Absolutely anyone could be an ‘alleged’ anything.
Anyway,
a man that liked Brokeback Mountain as much as you did shouldnt get to do any sort of sexual clowning on anyone. !KOBE24! bitches
I’m guessing Kirilenko wet the bed last night after all the nightmares Kobe induced upon his ass. I thought that man was supposed to be a scary defender, oh wait, he IS a scary defender its just that Kobe is SO much better than anyone that entire TEAMS cannot defend him. Its good to be a lakers fan, Kobe the zenmaster and Bynum, gifts fall from the sky when you love the purple and gold.

Kobe Bryant has proved beyond all doubts that he is the best baketball player on the planet. a young lad that has conqered the nba twice, he gaced the nba as the youngest ever to play in the nba in his time, he has defied all the laws of gravity when it comes to his jaw dropping and amazing dunks on anybody in the league. I must say that a man who has acomplished all that kobe has done should really be compared to Michael Jordan in his prime. Kobe has overcame trials, ups and downs in his glorious career, he came out of court and still scored what is recorded today as the nba’s all time second highest point in a game where he dropped 81 points. To finally prove my critics wrong, he is just 28 or 29yrs old and he still has what it takes to bring a championship to L.A lAKERS. Kobe is the best and he should be given his respect. God bless you Kobe bryant and keep ballin.

I don’t know if Rocky’s gonna win in this movie. I’m pretty sure he’ll lose and that’ll be that. It’ll either be he loses or the fight’s a draw. I don’t think he gonna win in this (what i hope to be) final installment. And i don’t think any Rocky will be able to top Rocky IV. That was the best one by far. And i really hope that in some way we find out that Adrian was killed in a drive-by in Philly and all evidence points to the Beanie Sigel shooting at that club a few years back. That’ll be gangsta.
