Kevin Garnett does not feel sorry for himself
You can only put words in a guy’s mouth for so long.
When you read opinion pieces about Kevin Garnett, much of them center on the fact that his career has been wasted by an inept front office, and because of that he wallows in self-pity. That is half true. I don’t know why it’s always reported that KG is so unhappy. He plays as hard as any superstar in the game and gets paid more than most of them. Sometimes he looks like he’s going to punch someone out, but that is because he is a professional athlete, and in the course of competition those types are prone to making intense faces. That intensity is a big part of why so many of us are such big fans of his and wish he had a real chance at going deep in the playoffs.
The truthful part of people’s assumptions is the thing about the front office. Yeah, they did him ugly. But I think Kevin is happy that he took their megamillions.
IheartKG has a little synopsis of the situation. There is no pity involved, and Kevin actively takes shots at the front office. Would it be better if he flat-out demanded a trade out of town like every other guy that’s not in the exact perfect situation they want? I’m happy to see him not feeling sorry for himself.

I don’t feel sorry for KG and I’m glad he has no self-pity. He’s made some nice dollars, is able to take care of his loved ones and he seems to like it in cold-assed Minnesota, where his buddies are Jimmie Jam and Terry Lewis. Nice life, don’tcha think? And what is this obsession with being the first to post. It seems a little juvenile to me…;-)

I would just like to see him get traded before he is past his prime. Garnett is one of the top 30 players of all time and deserves another chance to make a real run in the playoffs and we all know this isn’t happening in Minnesota. The one year he went to the west finals he was unreal. Hopefully Garnett will get traded to Chicago, LA Clippers, or LA Lakers so he can have another shot.

Too bad KG’s line “Don’t feel sorry for me” wasn’t recorded because it could rival A.I’s “Pratice?” monologue.

That’s the spirit, about time he spoke up. I really dig the line that even though he’s earned in excess of 120 mil. (from his first contract ALONE, whew) Garnett seems to feel that he has little say in the wolves “business” decisions. It’s just so sad, utterly sad to see him waste his game up there. Even Mike James seems a bit down since leaving the rockets. Only guy who seems to actually enjoy playing there is tricky ricky D, though to be frank, he is Ricky Davis.

I’m a huge KG fan, and i know that most of his comments are made out of sheer frustration, but i hope it doesn’t get to the point where people start to criticize him for his words. The front office has made some mistakes, that is true, but is it wrong to include his first contract as one of them? No one could have known what the implications of that deal were and it’s not his fault he took the deal, but at the same time, the Twolves were expecting him to become a big time dominant force, and even though he’s my favorite player, I’ll be the first to admit he hasn’t been that. He’s always put up solid numbers (20-10-5) but he never has been a dominant scorer, nor has he been a go to guy at the end of games. he defers to his teamates way to much and he doesn’t get to the line as much as he should. his high scoring average was 24, his MVP season, and it has dropped every yr since then.
I think the front-office did good to draft him and Steph, and if Starbury would have stayed, who knows what would have happened. But it’s incredibly hard to build a team thru the draft and KG’s first deal deaded any chances of building thru free agency.
Basically I think we should all take a hard look at the situation and not just blame Mchale and the front office. Everyone who’s been in that organization, from Mchale to Cassell and Spree to Flip to Ndudi Ebi to KG all deserve some of the blame.

Kevin knows his salary alone makes up roughly a third of the cap, right? Makes it kind of hard to add the other players you need to win a title. Worse comes to worse he just adds his name to the long list—Malone, Barkley, Ewing—of Hall Of Famers without rings.

i bet he would give up all 120 mil for a chance at a ring.
nba players can always make decent money (well, someone like KG anyways) from endorsements and the like.

I can’t believe you guys ae saying KG likes the money. He wants to win, not the money. He just likes to stay a Timberwolf, not because they give him money. He took a paycut already. He wants to win. KG dissers should be killed.

I think he should get traded to the Lakers because he will have a more of a chance to get a ring, because he will be with a great coach who led teams to championships, and his team gets to the playoffs every year, plus he will be with Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, and Luke Walton, who runs the offense good.

Kevin Garnett is without a doubt one of the greats in the game rite now, all he needs is a team that can actually win. KG should be traded to the chicago bulls, chicago are the up and coming team in the eastern conference and if they get KG they will be the best team in not only the east but the nba. KG deserves a ring and i think he has the best chance with chicago, him and ben wallace and their yung guns hinrich, gordon and deng they would dominate.
