Player of the D.A.Y.

Rebounding.

By Sam Rubenstein

The NBA is supposed to be more guard friendly than ever. Touch fouls, free throws, anything to get little guys to score. Last night Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson put on a one on one show with huge numbers and journeys to the basket along the way. Not good enough.

Two of the best teams in the league fell. Utah at home, San Antonio on the road. Andris Biedrins, going against those Spurs, had 18 and 15 with 6 blocks. That is a nice line. And you wouldn’t typically expect that from him, so it enhances how great he played.

But Dwight Howard put up 21 and 16, and you almost expect it. This was against the Utah Jazz and Carlos Boozer, who has been having a big season on the glass himself, second only to Dwight. ZERO offensive boards for Carlos on this night, cause Dwight was keeping him off the glass all night. Orlando beat a quality Western Conference team, and people are starting to wonder what’s going on down there.

Dwight Howard, Player of the D.A.Y.

Imagine how good he’d be with some actual post moves. Also, what happened to his wholesome, religious image? The guy has gone from Disney to Spice, hanging with pornstars and what not. Not that I have a problem with that. I’m just sayin’….

as a bay area resident, i had to throw this out there: so biedrins getting 18,15, and 6 on ducan isn’t impressive enough (not to mention blocking TD 3 times in a row)? last i check, most people would rank T-Robot ahead of boozer, not to mention warriors beat spurs without half-”player of the D.A.Y.” half-season.
and i never understood how anyone could have been sleeping on magic before the season. a good PG who can shoot the 3 and penetrate and dish, an unstoppable inside force, bonafide shooters, a big defensive presence with upside. and i haven’t even mentioned the do-all former all-star.
