Player of the D.A.Y.
Don’t worry it’s not Vince Young or anything football related
By Sam Rubenstein
I’m slowly coming out of my rage and depression. Thanksgiving break was a lot of fun up until around 6:30 yesterday. But life is still great. Anyways, time to crown another Player of the D.A.Y.
When I started writing these, I figured it would be a good way to have a personal MVP vote. Whoever is the best player in the league on the most given nights should be the MVP. This doesn’t take into account Friday or Saturday night, but this isn’t the P.E.R. and I’m not trying to have a war of words with the very same stat crew that I mocked a few posts ago. Actually Lang introduced me to Hollinger a few weeks ago and he was a very nice man.
So… today’s winner is Carmelo Anthony. 30+ again, this one coming against the Clippers, who knocked the Nuggets out of the playoffs last year. Melo is way up there in the MVP race and he has - in my opinion - the best TV commercial of any basketball player right now. And he comes from the place where The Wire takes place. Everything’s coming up Melo.

I’m not saying he didn’t deserve player of the d.a.y. but he’s performance yesterday was just typical Melo, he’s an automatic 30 points per night.

“Everything is coming up ‘Melo” great line. No comment about the fact that Melo leads the league in turnovers/game at 4.8, while only dishing 4.1 assists per game (a terrible .89 turnover/assist ratio) - Muggsy Bogues he ain’t!

I’m not a big Carmelo fan, but I think turnovers/game is one of the most overrated stats out there. Big time scorers and ball-handlers (e.g., Steve Nash, Allen Iverson) are bound to have more turnovers/game because the offense runs through them and they always have the ball in their control. So there will be errant passes and violations, just because defenses key on them. So even though Carmelo has an awful turnover ratio, it may not tell the whole story.

that is tru and the fact that Melo is giving up about 8-15 points a night is overated considering he is avering about 25-30

The Nuggets are an exciting team to watch. J.R. Smith’s emergence as an offensive juggernaut can only help make Melo’s life easier! Arrgh I’m the Juggernaut, bitch!
