High School Freshman commits to USC!

14 years old. Committed to a college. What’s going on?

By Sam Rubenstein

Alright… I’m just putting this out there for you all to discuss. Dwayne Pollee Jr. is 14 years old and is yet to play a high school basketball game. I repeat: He has never played a high school game.

Tim Floyd offered him a scholarship and now he’s commited to USC. It’s not binding or anything, but still, 14 years old?!?!?

Something is very very wrong here.

maybe it’s because his name is actually spelled correctly.

Bizzare. 6-6, 14 years old and dad was a player… Still, very bizzare. Then again, a lot of things can happen over the next 4 years including injury and his choice isn’t binding. Maybe the kid is just a fan of a coach who couldn’t come close to cutting it in the NBA

apparently this ain’t new:
“King committed to UCLA before his freshman season but will sign with Duke next month.”
i didn’t even know what college i wanted to go until the end of my senior year. i don’t think this kid knows what he’s doing. or maybe they just grow up earlier nowadays.

Now does this ruin his AAU eligibility? Since most AAU coaches get money to push their players to a certain university would they benefit playing a kid who has an oral commitment?

there’s a very slim chance this kid has a mature mind

Something is not right. Can they put in a rule that says you atleast have to be a junior? This is sad.

Man, he’s gonna have a lot of decisions ahead of him if he already has this kind of opportunity. He should of thought about this a little bit more. But at least he’s goin’ to college…

This happens a lot more than we think. Jeff Horner did it at Iowa, Drew Neitzel was a Soph when he commited to MSU. They were not as highly ranked as the King kid going to Duke though.

this kid is keen now he will able to bludge all through high school and say where is my scholarship at the end of it all. This kid has it worked out. But really this is ridiculous, a kid 14 years old doesn’t need to be committed to a college so early . He might just stop working on his game thinking he’s got it made. Then BAm, USC has a player who is 36 deep on the bench that good old uncle Tim offered a scholarship when he was 14. I have cousin, who is 9 wiv mad game. USC come sign him now before anyone else gets him, he has already been talking to Duke. Bunch of mutes

so basically hes not gonna do shit and slack off for 4 years and get into probably a better college than 95% of the kids in his class who actually picked up a pencil during their high school years. if thats not messed up idk what is

idik… I don’t think its good, but I don’t neccessarily think its rediculous. like, I didn’t really know where I wanted 2 go until about april an that was my senior year. I kinda had a idea of where I wanted 2 go… everybody does. But that doesn’t neccessarily mean that was the best place for me so that could result in him signing somewhere else. an just because he committed 2 USC doesn’t mean Tim Floyd offerd him a scholarship. College Coaches aren’t even allowed to make contact with a recruit until their Junior year, so Tim Floyd could be just as shocked as we are. But! Tim Floyd can also benefit from this. you never know how good this kid could end up. Just think about it, Sebastian Telfair was in the lime light of Every Division 1 Coach since the Seventh Grade. Who Knows

He’s okay but remember the name Keron Washington he’s a heck of a player to at 6′5 195 plays the 1-5 position just flip a coin for him it doesn’t matter what position you put him at.

However odd it may seem, at least you can say is he is planning on going to college. The knock on Floyd was unfair if you consider the team he had, pretty much a gutted Bulls team that had nobody on it. Add to that the fact of the act he had to follow. A fantastic run by a great Bulls team in the previous 8 years. I don’t think Houdini could have worked magic with those teams.

B0$$ says:
I dont think his committment will last just like Taylor Kings committment. When he starts balling to his full potential OR he starts sucking because he is in HS now then thangs will start changing. SLAM you gotta keep me posted on this kid though i want to see where he ends up.

check out pollee right here, i had a chance to see this kid live, he’s pretty damn athletic, just needs to work on his ball handling and his shot.

Rob says:
This is really getting outta hand, first i wonder if it’s the parents of the kid pushing for this because college is SOO damn expensive, or is the kid just doing it to stay out of the lime light and keep off the raydar from all those colleges that may be hounding him or what. none this less it’s much to early to commit

Oct.26 at 6:29 pm

matt (ballislife) says:
I don’t understand why people get mad when an athlete is discovered, yet we listen to musicians that were discovered at the same age? Tv stars that were discovered even younger, and then the second someone in athletics gets discovered, its bad??? come on now, grow up people. When a kid is a genius and harvard starts contacting him, what do we do?? dammnnnn that kid is smart, and we give him all the praise in the world, but when a d1 school hits up a kid when he’s a freshman for being a genius on the basketball court, its more like, “this is really getting outta hand”, think before you speak
