LeBron, Grant Hill and the Second-Greatest Video Ever

Today’s news and notes from around the NBA…

by Lang Whitaker

The internet is a strange place. On Monday, Sam wrote a post about the 10 Worst Front Offices in the NBA, ranking the T-Wolves at number one.

Then today we find this, the second-greatest internet video clip of all time.

At least they called SLAM a “well-respected and opinionated basketball magazine.” Probably won’t be respecting those comp issues in the Wolves front office anymore. Aren’t there more important things to report on the evening news in Minnesota?

Let’s get to The Links…

• Look who’s back: Grant Hill. As I wrote in the forthcoming SLAM NBA Preview, the NBA is a better place with Grant Hill in it.

• LeBron James has spent his summer building with captains of industry, taping a Letterman appearance to air tomorrow night and having lunch with Warren Buffett, the billionaire dude behind Berkshire Hathaway. Buffett apparently wore a LeBron jersey to the lunch.

• The Bonzi Bonanza continues, as the Heat now appear to be involved.

• The Mavs are looking to re-up with Josh Howard before the season gets cracking.

• The Oregonian’s story about the Zach Randolph situation, including a bit at the end about the Blazers PR staff sending their mascot and dozens of donuts to the police station. Meanwhile, Canzano talks to the accuser and spills even more details. Great story by Canzano.

• Dallasbasketball.com can’t wait for Mavs media day in two weeks.

• The Boston Herald still hasn’t fixed their picture of the guy who isn’t Sebastian Telfair. And Wally Szczerbiak says he’s all about L.I.

• Good news from Pittsburgh, where Sam Ashaolu is on the mend.

• At the behest of Ben Osborne, here’s a link about the latest class being inducted into the New York basketball hall of fame, including the one and only Mark Jackson.

Man that Randolph story was wack to me. I understand Canzano is a columnist and it’s not supposed to be objective, but come on. It’s like he basically agreed with her contention that Randolph had the investigation shut down. Come on, if he had that kind of juice he would have made all his other legal problems disappear as well and that never happened. I don’t know what dude did, but this chick is a party hopper who seems to have a lot of intimate knowledge about the lifestyle of a pretty wild dude. Her snot ain’t honey, and neither is his. The column could have reflected that, cause the fake attempt at talking about Randolph’s daughther didn’t have any depth.

Why is Grant Hill so beloved? The dude is made of glass. Why does that make him such a feelgood story. He can’t play. Period. Retire. Please.

hilarious to see that quote in the video clip with the people’s champ listed as the source.

Shiz says:
Brad, its not really that Grant is made of glass, just his ankle. with bones FUSED (which cant feel good) in your ankle your gonna loose a step or two. Its a feelgood story because really…what reason does he have to keep putting himself through this. He’s a well adjusted grown man, so that rules out any fetish for self-abuse…it must be for the love! Grant is beloved because he’s not your typical NBA brat, pounding his own chest and then getting arrested for an “alleged” [insert crime here]. He’s articulate, thoughtful, and yet he doesn’t give that “sellout” vibe (although he did attend the always hated Duke U - GO TAR HEELS!!) And if your asking these questions, you may not be old enough to have seen Grant at his prime before the move to Orlando. He was a bad mutha…Ask Alonzo Mourning how many times Grant used to dunk on him and say he can’t play. Saying Grant Hill can’t play ball is like saying Rakim cant rap. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Retire?? Please!! Respect!

It’s too bad the Grant Hill and T-Mac partnership never panned out in Orlando. Those two would have murdered the league if they could have stayed healthy

ROFLMAO. Sam makes a local newscast in a city he doesn’t live in. For an opinion. Do the local sports newscasts not care about the huge race the Twins are in right now?

Grant Hill’s ankles are made out of popsicle sticks and cotton candy. I’m pretty sure both money’s feet are detachable at this point. He really should be competing with Allan Houston for that studio job. There’s (probably) no way he can get hurt doing that. Light-skinned ballplayers are never THE TRUTH.
