U-S-Delay!
Are the World Championships fixed, or am I just out of the loop?
I was all fired up to watch the USA/China game tonight on ESPN 2 at 9:30, and then I checked my email a second ago and got a press release from USA Basketball with the final score and some notes from the game in there.
Which means:
a) The game was already played and ESPN2 is showing it on tape-delay, which I didn’t know was the case. Why couldn’t they show it live? Didn’t want to bump any World’s Strongest Man re-runs?
b) Or the game is being played live tonight, but a huge fix is in. If that’s the case, I’m hopping a plane for Vegas right now and will be rich by this time tomorrow. Rich!
I’m not going to mention the final score here, so if you’re trying to avoid the score you can remain in the dark until tonight. I’m planning on watching anyway and keeping notes. I already put it out there today that Team USA is going to win it all.
What do you guys think?

That’s weird. I had read that NBATV was carrying the tape delayed games and ESPN2 was live. Either that was switched around (i.e. NBATV is carrying it live, and ESPN2 is tape delayed), ESPN changed their policy, or they hired Bennett Salvatore to work the game.

Same thing happened to me this morning Lang. i had the game marked in the calendar and everything. So nice of ESPN to air delayed game… once again, they are LEADING.

I clicked on espn.com, and the side headline revealed the outcome of the game (which was never in doubt in the first place). That won’t stop me from watching it though, gotta get my hoops fix over the summer!
I also second Lang’s prediction, U-S-A!!

Why wouldn’t the “Worldwide Leader” show the USA vs China basketball game Live? Did they just not see how the World Cup riveted folks in the morning and afternoon? And that was for soccer (a sport many in America don’t care for). You can’t tell me that the U.S. doesn’t want to see Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and the rest try to restore the honor of USA Basketball at the World Championships. I guess we needed to see Cold Pizza. Forget ‘Melo and D-wade, we got Woody Paige and Skip Bayless!!

Lang in 2004: Yes, when you think of fastbreaking style, you think of Carlisle and Sloan. the coach that comes to mind about defense+running game was doug moe (sorry, old school). he’s uses a d’antoni-like running offense, while playing full court pressing defense. steals and forced turnover leads to easy baskets. if the suns had more depth, they’d be playing more aggressive d too instead of worrying about foul trouble.Lang:

Lang Whitaker says:
I never said fast breaking, I said transition, and there’s a big difference there. I agree about Doug Moe, and Paul Westhead would be fun to watch running things, too.

okay. but carlisle’s version of transition offense to my mind, seems to be more of the let’s-slow-down-let’s-walk-it-up-and-set-the-offense type after getting possession of the ball. And same with Sloan, but to a lesser extent.Aug.8 at 3:58 pm

I´m sick and tired of listening to americans complaining about everything like they own the world (Irak anyone?). You Lang should be ashamed of yourself. FIBA refs call the game the way it´s suppossed to be and not by the surname you have. “Fiba Suck” Duncan said. Of course, because it´s a men game here, not a “ticky-tak-free-throw-and-dunk-contests” like the NBA. Not to mention THE TRAVELLING VIOLATIONS, because in Basketball you can only make 2 steps and not 10000, like Lebron in the Playoffs against Washington. Whether US wins the gold is irrelevant, it´s obvious that after the sixth and third places in the last two competitions american´s arrogance grew even larger. Americans do not know the meaning of “humble”. And it´s pretty disgusting reading your complains Lang about FIBA refs. Why don´t you look straight into the mirror and stop criticizing? Ups, I forgot, you are an american…
