Tony Parker, Rip and KG
Today’s news and notes from around the NBA…
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I can tell you there are guys in the East who don’t like playing against me. Richard Hamilton (Detroit Pistons guard) is one of them. He just don’t like it when I guard him.” — Ruben Patterson.
THE LINKS…
• Remember our KG story that we ran a week ago? Well, they found it in Minnesota.
• Ruben Patterson, the formerly self-proclaimed Kobestopper now known as the Nannystopper, says this year he’ll be the Ripstopper. I’m just glad Richard Hamilton doesn’t go by “Dick.”
• Ron Artest is scheduled to begin five days of community service in Detroit today. Strange, because when he was here in the office the other day I asked him how long he’d be in New York, and he said, “For a minute.” I thought he was being figurative, but apparently not. Would be cool if became friends with Boy George while they were sweeping the streets. I’m guessing that won’t happen, though.
• Chris Wilcox is good and all, but comparing him to Shawn Kemp? Please.
• The bad news is that Anderson Varejao suffered a foot injury in Brazil’s game against France. The good news is that his hair is just fine. (His foot’s all good too, apparently.) Also, Tony Parker hurt his finger (grabbing someone else’s jersey) and could miss France’s game on Saturday.
• Good stuff on the Little General’s two-week trip to Africa.
• Can someone tell Bob Kravitz that the Indy Star is the only big paper covering the Pacers, so he doesn’t have to sit around to make sure he’s available to cover the oft-promised Al Harrington press conference?
• The Kings are talking about Loren Woods like he’s Wilt Chamberlain. Well, not that part of Wilt Chamberlain.

the links have become inpersonal now that they are divided by category. I preferred when all today’s news were bunched up in one single page and the website layout was amateurish. This new layout seems too clean and un-slamlike…..u guys could’ve designed the site like the defunct “HoopsTv”

Great call Lang — Wilcox getting compared to Kemp is very unfair. Far as I know, Wilcox doesn’t have more than 3 or 4 kids out of wedlock and has yet to get busted for his coke habit. That slacker…

Thanks Jamal. Tell you what, you go look at HoopsTV, and we\’ll keep doing what we\’re doing here. (Oh wait, it doesn\’t exist anymore? Whoops!) Thanks!

I was really used to the old site, but the new one has definitely grown on me. I like getting news at it comes in, that way I’ve almost always got something new to click on when I get online. The comments section kicks a lot of ass too. I’m all about the interactivity, if that’s a word.

Lang, ignore Jamal - you guys are bringin’ the heat as always! But to let you know, I had to do a double-take when I saw the first couple words of this post’s Headline - “Tony Parker, Rip” - I thought we had a dead Frenchman on our hands! Imagine huge the loss to the Spurs, to Eva, and to the FRENCH RAP UNDERGROUND…holy merde!

Yeah, I’m with Chris–not that I didn’t love visiting the old website with fingers crossed at 4:30, hoping the new Links would be up, but now there’s always something new worth reading, regardless of what time of day.

Here’s a response re: what Jamal said: I’m a dedicated Links reader…I’ve been checking it for probably 5 years now, damn near every day. Basically, I love the perspective, love the humor, and I check every single part of the site…from Dirty 30 to Omar to the Links. I tell any basketball head I know to check out the site and I’ve emailed links to particularly entertaining stuff on slamonline countless times. So…I’m a fan. I’m not going anywhere. But, for real, Jamal’s right in that the new site needs some major, major adjustments. I have no problem with the “clean look”…I just think it is murder to try to find content on the site these days. I never know how to get from one section to another. It’s frustrating how often pages aren’t loading properly and how often the page-links bug out and appear 2 or 3 times, but don’t actually link until the page is refreshed manually. Anyway, the main point is this. Simple is better and right now there’s way too much complexity. I feel like I’m doing a puzzle every time I’m trying to find a certain blog, especially if its more than a day or 2 old. The reason why Google stomped out the search engine competition is cuz the page was so simple and straightforward that it didn’t scare anyone away. On the flip side, props for setting up a blog, where I can actually throw in my 2 cents…that’s definitely the best part of the redesign.

I liked the old Links layout better as well, but the new one is OK. Sort of like not being able to have Cookies and Cream and getting Chocolate Chip instead. Though I like the Cookies and Cream better, they both kick ass.

I like the new links, too. Except we need to get Omar his Gangsta heads back.

I liked it all on one page, too. Sometimes I don’t read the whole Links anymore because it’s a pain to jump around. I wonder how many people bail before they get all the juice? No offense, Lang. I love the Links! I bet when the season starts I’ll work a little harder at finding my way around this site.

Jamal… tell ‘em why you mad son.. I can’t front, at first I was mad as hell that the site had changed because I had become accustomed to the same site everyday… but I ain’t mad no more. This site is 100% certified dope. Before we could only look forward to 1 update per day, now there is countless updates throughout the day and evening. Respect due. Also, thought this quote would have mad Quotes Of The Day:
“I let those questions answer themselves,” he said. “I am going to work hard wherever I go. There is always going to be somebody who is hating on you. They hated on Jesus, so I can’t say they won’t hate on me.”

Jamal…….great call. I do miss hoopstv.com. Their slogan “If basketball is your religion, this is your church”. Beautiful. Lang…I check you out Mon-Fri (actually, 2x on Monday) you’re still the s*&t !

I like the new site, I like the talk back the readers can do.
I just have a hard time catching up to all the bits you guys post(that’s a good thing btw) keep up the great work. can’t wait for the season to begin.
I’m hoping we get some highlight vids from the previous nights games or maybe some highlight vids done to music of players etc..

I was a little put off at first by the re-design but im used to it now. Frequent updates are great. Comments section is even better. Am I correct in assuming i’ll have everything covered if i simply load up “slam daily” (its actually my homepage), then check the “links” section and finally the “off the ball”. I didnt think it was that hard to find everything, certainly not “a puzzle”…I’m just saying…

i told you that the new layout is not ’street’ enough.

I’m also not really fond of the new site for a simple reason. Everyone living in Europe or Asia usually comes to the site in the morning to read all the news of the previous day. With the old page it would all be in one place and if for any reason i’d miss a day i knew exactly where to get it from. now when i come to the site i always end up wondering if there’s something i’m missing, if there might’ve been more than 4 entries the day before etc. How about adding a frame that keeps track of all updates regardless of where they were made? this way i could see what has been added to the site quicker instead of having to go look for it.

Hey, I hear what you’re all saying. And actually, what you’re looking at is SLAMonline version 1.5, and 2.0 is about two weeks away. It’s coming, and it’ll be a little easier to navigate. That said, if you want to read The Links, all you have to do is click on The Links in the menu bar across the top of every page.

I guess I do miss the old Links, no doubt about it actually. But this new version IS growing on me. Everything is kinda brief though, know what I mean? Should be damn good once the season gets started. Ps: Go New Zealand at the World Champs.

Oh man that L Woods article! I just got back from the doctor’s office, my eyes started bleeding halfway thru the article. They actually called him a veteran? Man, I saw him and Rasho on the floor at the same time – it was like a heroin come-down competition: who could play with less enthusiasm. Who does he endorse? No-doz?

I think some people are just scared of change. What is so hard to navigate about the new site? I want to see the Links, I click on the links. I am taken to the Links. Am I missing something?

Santtu says:
I think Adam has a point. There are no less than 26 different categories listed in the side bar, and since some of the posts are really only tiny snippets, you can easily miss something that’s been posted on the front page. (Since it changes so rapidly.)And you certainly wouldn’t want to always trawl through all the categories on the off change that something new has appeared. That said, in the end it’s pretty easy: just click on The Links and Sam Online whenever you get online, and you’ll get all of the stuff from a period of two to three days. You might miss some of the other stuff, but that’s life.
