Shaq’s World Domination
Poor Damon Jones…
If you’ve seen the latest edition of MTV Cribs featuring Damon “Basketball” Jones, you’ve seen the portion where he proudly walks the cameraman over to his shelves and shows them his Li Ning signature shoe and gleefully announces that he’s the only NBA player to have a shoe deal in China.
In what’s pretty much the story of Damon’s career, his exclusive deal was undermined yesterday when Shaquille O’Neal announced that he’d also signed a deal with Li Ning to produce and distribute his Dunkman line of shoes in Asia. They’re also doing an apparel line with the awkward name “Instensify O’Neal.”
The deal is expected to help Li Ning increase their share of the marketplace in China, as they’d fallen behind Nike and adidas in recent years.
I’m still not sure why they signed Damon Jones in the first place.

They signed Damon because of his fantastic fashion sense and because according to him he’s the best three point shooter in the league. Or is he just the best player in the league, I always get mixed up when it comes to Damon complementing himself.

simple, cuz these 2 players are the only ones that don’t have a shoe deal. Their sneakers won’t sell anyway so the big companies don’t mind losing them.

That cribs with Bball Jones is hilarious. “I’ve expanded the shower so you can fit 3 or 4 people in there.” haha. I’ve seen him at the club working the ladies when he used to play in Vancouver. When I was walking by he had like 3 girls around him and he was like “So you gonna come back to the house or what?” to the girls. No doubt, that shower’s gonna be used. He’s my hero…

Damon Jones has no appeal to US brands, who only pay superstars and relevant starters. And he must have a nice agent, too.
