Madden, Wilt Chamberlain and Tony Parker
Today’s news and notes from around the NBA…
Of course, for many of you today is Maddenoliday, where you call in sick to work and stay home playing Madden all day. I haven’t taken it that far, but I have been playing Madden for about two weeks and I think it’s pretty amazing. I wrote a review of it for SI.com which will be up over here eventually.
I also did something else that’ll show up later over here.
Really no big hoops news today, and the stuff that is in the papers is just the same old stuff that’s been kicking around all week. Still, though, we press on…
• Live from Japan, LeBron says he wants to be the first athlete to become a billionaire and he’s targeting Asia, so much so that’s taking Mandarin lessons. It’ll also be helpful for when he needs to diss Yao during games.
• The Al Harrington to Indy trade is back on again, as the Pacers must have agreed to offer much less than they initially proffered in order to make Hawks GM Billy Knight happy. By the time this thing goes through the Hawks will be getting a second-round 2010 NBDL pick in return for Harrington.
• Tony Parker’s finger is busted, but he doesn’t need surgery, at least for now. Good thing he worked on his jumper last summer.
• LaMarcus Aldridge, however, is getting some cut-up today, and he probably won’t be ready for training camp. Not a good day to be a Blazers fan.
• And finally, good stuff on Wilt Chamberlain, who would have been 70 yesterday.

People are in awe of how well Shaq moves for a big man. All these people need to go back and read up on or watch Wilt in action. This guy was simply a freak of nature and the world will probably never see another player like him. Rest in peace Wilt..

Kobe can catch a glimpse out of the corner of his eye of what it would be to score 100. Nobody can see evan a shadow of 55 rebounds.

Lang, just read your piece over on si.com and liked it. lauged out loud at the steelers joke and i don’t know why them cats wanna hate on you. oh well, can’t please everybody. anyway, nitpicking again, but LT doesn’t wear Reeboks like he’s got on in the game. You think Reebok signed some kind of deal with Madden where everybody is in AI’s brand?? Funny, considering Reggie Bush got fined for wearing adidas in preseason and NFL says you can only wear Nike or Reebok on the field. Guess it’s Reebok only on Madden. Holla

And for whatever it’s worth, I neither like nor hate the Steelers or the Seahawks. Just trying to make a joke.

Sam Rubenstein says:
The only thing I remember about the Superbowl was that I won some money because of the halftime score. I think there was a big Seahawks catch overturned by the officials, leading to them not being able to kick a field goal. Therefore the game was called fair and square.

I have Madden sitting in the car…still wrapped in plastic…I still have work to do…and yet all I can do is read and think about Madden and all of the sleep I’m going to lose. If this work day could go any slower, it would go in reverse.

i dunno.. i never thought shaq moved well.. not even when he was younger… but it’s hard to judge shaw’s movement half the time i think he manuover people and elbow people extra purposely (u know players all do it.. but sometimes it make it seem like he do it EXTRA purposely cuz he knows he’s big) then on the flip side… he is really big, so maybe it’s just him moveing about and playing ball occasionally throwing an elbow out like other players hoping the ref wouldn’t catch it? ut i still stand by the fact that he doens’t move fast.. he’s really slow to me… as for wilt, he’s big and tall, but he’s not big in the same way as shaq so of course he moves well for a big man… (actually i don’t think he’s ‘big’ at all)

Wilt was 7′1 275-290 lbs for most of his career. That is a big man that could at one point, touch the top of the backboard.

I’m just glad you did a better job than James Frey with your Deadspin column; though to be honest, that shouldn’t have been too hard to accomplish.

Hey Lang, your Harrington deal finally went through. In return, your Hawks get John Edwards and a 2007 first round pick. That’s what realgm.com is reporting. Knight blows.

Chamberlain could be an Alien. The timing matches with the Rosewell thing. And I can never imagine a player scoring 100 or average 55 rbs a game, not even in Rookie mode in NBA Live.
