I know. I was running the video camera during that part and when I saw them all doing it I nearly dropped the camera trying to tape all of ‘em.

What really pisses me off with Slam presents Kicks #9 is this: You put on your cover that you have a preview of the Kobe 2 but you have no pics of the shoes. All you have is a Q & A interview with Kobe which doesnt mention or have any info on the Kobe 2. WTF? Where is the preview of the Kobe 2? You guys false advertised and all you did was create HYPE by puting that on the front cover of your magazine. I’m just glad I didnt buy into the hype and didnt spend $5 or $6 bucks on your magazine.

Jonathan, no snookering or false advertising was intented with the Kobe 2 reference. We did in fact “preview” the shoe as much as we were able — Nike wouldn’t (or couldn’t) show it to us yet becasue (they say) it’s not done, and at the time we shipped the issue (mid-July), you couldn’t even find a shot of it on the internet. If you follow the shoe game closely, you KNOW that’s saying something, because the new stuff regularly pops up on the sneakerhead websites many, many months before it goes on sale. We ran with the only thing we could, and something no one else will give you — Kobe himself talking about inspiration and mindset regarding the shoe. Do we hopefully get some people’s attention by putting Kobe’s name on teh cover? Of course. Was he anywhere near as forthcoming as we would’ve liked? Of course not, but I don’t think that’s equivalent with us trying to rip anybody off. If you’re a SLAM reader who’s into shoes, I think you’ll find plenty in KICKS 9 to justify the $4.99 cover price.

Hey do you guys publish in New York? Cause everytime I go out and search for Kicks on the sale date, I’m always bummed out cause it always seems to not arrive anywhere in San Diego. Well it might be cause it takes time to ship or..?

[…] You may recall one year ago when adidas gave us exclusive access behind the scenes of their big summer commercial shoot. This year, we’d kind of been there done that, at least as far as our annual KICKS issue is concerned. But that doesn’t mean we still don’t get the exclusives. […]
