Isiah’s Back!
Jared Jeffries, the Knicks have some free money for you.
Remember last season? Everytime we heard anything about a free agent or a guy who might be moved at the trade deadline, the Knicks were mentioned. It didn’t matter if it was guy who really wouldn’t help the Knicks, it was like the Knicks just wanted to be involved. This summer, the Knicks have been quiet, except for their wildly entertaining draft night.
All of that changed last night. The Knicks presented an offer to restricted free agent Jared Jeffries, signing him to a deal the Wizards can choose to match worth about $30 million over five seasons. Since the Knicks are over the luxury tax threshold and will have to pay a tax on his contract as long as they remain over the limit, in actuality it’s like they signed Jeffries to a five year, $60 million offer.
Jeffries is a nice player, with a lot of size and the ability to play everything from the five to the two, but why sign a guy like this when you already have Channing Frye, David Lee, Reinaldo Balkman, Jalen Rose, Eddy Curry, Jerome James, Jamal Crawford, Quentin Richardson, Malik Rose and Maurice Taylor at those positions?
Unless you’re going to move one of those guys and get nothing back in return, it makes absolutely no sense. This doesn’t even address signing Jeffries to a deal that’ll cost you over $10 million a year, which isn’t anywhere near his actual value.
All of this means, of course, that Isiah Thomas is out of his slumber and back to ruining his team.
Comforting, if you ask me.

worst. news. ever. Why must we always throw money away like this? If Zeke trades these expiring contracts I will shout angrily towards the poster of him on my wall.

I suspect that Isiah doesn’t know about the luxury tax.

Actually, even though I’m not Isiah’s supporter, in this case I think he got pretty valuable and educated player for reasonable amount of money.

Jared Jeffries is a really bad player. His offense is non-existent, and he’s not a good enough defender to cover that. Dude, Bruce Bowen makes much less than 6 million per. Jeffries is no Bruce Bowen.

I think it’s clear Zeke is clearly looking for short-term fixes to save his rear end. Remember, he’s only got this season to right the ship or Little Jimmy Dolan will have to find a new president, a new GM and a new head coach.

Only the Knicks would be interested in a player who they have about six clones of? How much different is Jefferies game than Balkman and David Lee? I am a Wizard fan and I think Jefferies had a nice role with the Wizards he was not expected to do too much besides play defense. Now he is on the Knicks were every negative aspect of his game is going to be looked at. The non-scoring, not reaching his full potential, and etc. He is a much better fit on the Wizards than the Knicks. But when has being the right fit on a team been used to describe a Knick signing or trade since Thomas has been there. I cannot wait until two years from now when the Knicks are trying to dump Jefferies salary on a another team.

Jeffries is a nice, defensive-minded, a versatile player who can defend taller shooting guards and centers…the only thing that bothers me is the amount of money involved!
