Breaking News: Al Harrington to Indiana?

Hey, the Pacers and Hawks are talking about swapping Al Harrington! Oh wait, we already did that.

by Lang Whitaker

When I’m not sitting here deleting German poker spam from the comments sections of our site, I occasionally do some work, and sometimes (not often, granted) I even get some stuff right.
Which is why I direct you to the Al Harrington post from Friday, where I wrote that the Hawks and Pacers were close to finishing a deal that would send Harrington and a six year, $60 million contract to Indiana in exchange for basically nothing — I heard it’ll be a first round pick and $3 million.

Fast forward to today: ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports, reports that…drumroll…Al Harrington is close to being a member of the Pacers! Great.
In the interest of fairness, did I get anything wrong? Looks like it.

I was told the holdup in finishing this thing was Atlanta, but then the Pacers went wild this weekend, offloading salary by dumping Anthony Johnson and taking back the money they’d offered Fred Jones (effectively ending all my “Indiana Jones” puns). This makes it appear that it was Indiana holding things up, as they clear cash for Harrington.

When will something officially happen? No idea, but I’ll keep an ear out.

Ryan Jones says:
What Lang fails to mention is all the times espn.com breaks really important news — like Marc Stein, um, “reporting” that LeBron and Jay-Z had lunch together in Vegas the other day. ‘Cause, you know, that’s important.

I understand dumping salary, but why dump Anthony Johnson’s when they could have kept his scoring and team leadership and dumped unproductive, oft-injured malcontent Jamaal Tinsley? For a locker-room that was in such disarray the last two seasons, the Pacers have just traded Dallas two of their most professional players (AJ and Austin Croshere). That part of it just doesn’t make sense to me. The only reason why the Pacers had any playoff success was because of AJ… so putting your chips on JT seems to be the worse decision for a team wanting to change team attitude. Oh and Mark Stein is reporting that I had lunch with JayZ too.

My take on the AJ/JT situation is that nobody wanted Tinsley. The Pacers probably couldn’t get anything more than a bag of balls and a bent rim for Tinsley, so they’re stuck with him. That means that AJ had to go, because Indy had to unload somebody to clear room for Harrington.

Thats why our local sports show dosen’t know jack about NCAA college basketball cause it aint featured in ESPN alot!!!! espn’s front page of the day is also our local sports show’s front headline too…..isn’t that so wrong n wack?
